Greetings from Transylvania. I married/ moved here 17 years ago ( from Cleveland, Ohio...long story ;) ) Anyways, Ive looked to your books, videos for assistance, inspiration, encouragement in a lifestyle here very different to what I knew for 27 years. I enjoy the podcast as well when Im in tge garden weeding :D I think youd get a kick out of the traditional canning/preservation they still do here. Ive learned so much! Hugs!
Beautiful spending time with your family, and loving that you’re passing down the fruits of your labor with the children along with you. Grocery shopping in your own back yard ❤
Your definition "Why bother..." is the sum of a lifestyle and conviction of that definition. So impressed by you and your family, and values. Geezzz... wish I was your neighbor!
Oh my goodness i remember when my Dad used to fry our bread on the bbq . It was delicious that just brought back some lovely childhood memories for me 😊 thank you
I freeze my elderberry "clusters" for a few hours in a grocery bag and then the berries fall off the stems easily. Love elderberries ❤ and love your channel
Yum! So cool your neighbors have you glean. We just planted an elderberry this year. Love seeing you all harvet, and preserve. I agree, there is a satisfaction, and enjoyment multiplied, from our own harvest. From other''s knowledge... "He who sleeps does not catch fish".
Harvesting your own land is so relaxing and peaceful. I remember when I was younger and I used to go to my grandmothers house in the summers and we would harvest the coffee plants she had in her plot of land. she would sun dry it for a couple of weeks, then open fire roast it. It was the coffee she and the older grandchildren would drink for the rest of the year for us younger children at the time it would be tea also harvested from her land.. the saying goes... he who sleeps, doesn't catch the fish.
Thank you 🥰 You all work so well together. It's a blessing to watch. I tried growing potatoes this year . They did not get very big. I live in Southern NH and planted them in May .
So much beauty. Your kids are at such a magical stage of helping and togetherness. Enjoy it. It goes so fast, and then they start working and moving off to college. I heard your little persuasive trick I use too: math or go out and harvest? Lol. Outside is always the preference. Love love your harvest table idea! He who sleeps doesn't catch fish.
Our lives are so very different but I’m not sure if we couldn’t agree more on preserving what we can get and loving what we do. Thank you, dear one, for bringing beauty to a life well lived. ❤️
The explanation of how you feel hit me spot on ... I have not been able to explain to my family just how it makes me feel but this.. this is how❤ thank you
You’re saying “the Willis homestead gets a copy of the cookbook!” Yay! I knew it! 😂 Only kidding. I think it’s amazing that your kids jump in and it’s a family affair. ❤
Question🤗I seen your Basil had bloomed, can we still use it this way?? Mine went to bloom along time ago and I have a lot out there, but I didn’t think I could use it anymore.
If you throw your elderberry clusters (stems and all) into the freezer, the elderberries will fall right off easily. Much quicker than pulling them all by hand.🤗
He who sleeps doesn't catch fish. Your videos are so inspiring to continue preserving more food. Do you know the name of the chili pepper you were picking?
There are loads of different varieties... ours is a European elderberry and they're almost a super deep red color. We also glean "standard" elderberries on roadsides that are the traditional blue/black color. I always just aim to harvest them before the birds eat them all!
This is a non-name variety that I picked up at a market in Palermo... but the white and purple one is from Johnny's Seeds and it's called "Rosa Bianca".
@@theelliotthomestead no worries I think it is a good idea if your children are playing, you can prepare them to perform anonymously maybe unless it really gutsy
What an interesting elderberry! All of mine have fat, bright green leaves, with deep blue- almost black- berries. What variety is yours? Hand on heart, I couldn't suss the meaning of the Italian phrase. I'll look forward to learning as others chime in! Loved the music, btw, and I'm wondering if you need me to send you a flame thrower to deal with your jurassic arachnids. Just kidding. Maybe. Beautiful work, Mr. and Mrs. Elliot, Beautiful work. ❤
He who sleeps doesn’t catch fish. So true wouldn’t you say? Something like my grandfather would say “ the early bird gets the worm” In Spanish we would say “ el que madruga dios le ayuda”
What was the beautiful piano music? Was that you or one of your children? If it was a cd/musician, can you please say what the title of the music is and who was playing? Thanks!

She backed down that pathway like a BOSS!
You really are an artist. Many of us homestead in a perfunctory way, but you turn it into a dance.
What a kind comment. Thank you.
Your kids are so blessed to live the life you're giving them.

Who sleeps doesn't catch fish. Great video!
Your elderberry look red. Mine are almost black. Should I harvest before they turn black?
There are loads of different varieties... ours is a European elderberry and they're almost a super deep red color. We also glean "standard" elderberries on roadsides that are the traditional blue/black color. I always just aim to harvest them before the birds eat them all!
Fruit picking asmr in the beginning 🍐 💕 🐦 🎵
He who sleeps doesn't catch fish! :) Our "early bird catches the worm"
Your eggplant is beautiful! May I ask what variety you grow? Mine has never been this lovely.
This is a non-name variety that I picked up at a market in Palermo... but the white and purple one is from Johnny's Seeds and it's called "Rosa Bianca".
@@theelliotthomestead thank you! 😊
Thanks the peaceful video today. Would you share if that was you or your family playing the piano?
It wasn't, though I love that idea. All our kids study piano. This was someone playing Bach.
@@theelliotthomestead no worries I think it is a good idea if your children are playing, you can prepare them to perform anonymously maybe unless it really gutsy
Grwat every body to learn .

What is the type of hot pepper you mention in this video?
Hello from New Jersey! one quick question do you use an instant pot as a pressure canner?
Nope - this is a Presto Digital Pressure Canner. The best invention EVER!
Thanks for the info 😊 I just learned something new!
I want an electric pressure cooker! Which one do you use?
This is Presto. I cannot say enough good things about it. It's FANTASTIC.
Is it haste makes waste?
