Please, as someone who gets bored grinding endgame rather quickly I feel like I never get that hook that many others have had with this game and I think it is due to my lack of understanding of what the game is wanting me to do which feels very unclear and punishing for not knowing everything to do involving maps

For new players proper trade etiquette is to go to that person's hideout and wait for the person you whispered to trade you, don't go into people's hideout and try to trade them.

One thing I like to mention for new players:
Your first character will likely be bad.
It's normal. Even if you follow a guide you'll likely just not do a very good job and that's fine.
You will learn a lot and discover things you''ll want to learn about you didn't even know existed.
The fun part: each try will get a little better! Never before and never since have I played a game that made me feel like the things I learned matter and made me a better player. Enjoy the journey!

I've been playing PoE since 2015 and I do not agree with this comment. Not everyone who plays PoE will ever get truly "better" as they play, as some people (such as myself) plateau at a certain point and realize late in their gaming experience with PoE that they have no interest in the "min-max" culture of gaming.
I can't stand the mapping system and have always avoided it. I didn't originally start playing PoE to speed-run a bunch of complicated maps that took a Masters Degree to figure everything out to the finest damned detail.
Unfortunately, there is scarcely any content out there for more casual players like myself.
I'm hoping this helps someone else who may be frustrated with this hyper-detail-oriented culture of gaming we are in these days.

I’m on act 6, no guides or any other BS. Having fun creating my own build and haven’t hit any walls. The game is pretty comprehensive and approachable. Don’t let videos like these discourage you. People have pushed the endgame meta to mindless insanity and you don’t have to take part in it to enjoy the game. Do your thing and have fun.

I’m on Act 2 and taking the spiritual journey. NO GUIDES! Im a bit over leveled for my area since I made a few goofs while learning the game. I didn’t know the portal times out so a couple times I had to clear an area again. I also explored a lot so I did a lot of full map area clears before advancing or friends would summon me to another game and no waypoint. Also, was a victim of alt/tab crash a few times lol. I have been taking a very slow approach and starting to grasp the currencies and what not. I am a witch and going to see how well I can make a fire mage. The passive tree is massive, but people make it sound more confusing than it really is. A lot of reading required for pathing but that’s what the search tool is for. This character won’t be perfect, but I’m fine with that. Making the build is part of the fun for me.

Just a small correction, the ghost gem vendor in act 3 (Siosa) sells every gem except for a few special ones unlocked in act 4, so its possible a gem used in your build guide is not available just yet! Lily in act 6 and then in your hideout does sell every gem in the game though (except just the portal gem, which is drop only)

When searching items, as well as setting a max lvl req, its smart to set a max stat (int, dex, str) req, so you dont get items you cant use. Great vid, impressive how dense with info it is

    • @Woolie
      @Woolie  10 місяців тому +8

Yeah, that also works, although, I'd say that if the item is > a 10% upgrade, getting some extra stats to use it is well-worth it.

Hey Woolie. I've been playing POE since open beta and I have 10s of thousands of hours in and I wanted to say I really appreciate this guide. You really did a good job with your explanations. As with everything in POE you could have gone into more detail but that probably would have been way too much for newer players so I liked that you kept it simple as possible and really pushed for people to use the community tools that have been created to help them. Thanks for this video.

  • @lowkey_Ioki
    @lowkey_Ioki 10 місяців тому +3

A point that _really_ could use some stressing:
Global chat can make this game so much more fun.
Find a community to play with, I found one through a random global channel I joined. It means you can share progress, pog out at super rare items and laugh at other people's misery as they poof a third headhunter. All-round great times. It elevated my enjoyment of the game from an 8 to a solid 11/10. The community aspect of PoE is not to be underestimated.

would love to see a guide on how as an experienced player, you approach POE end game. What do you prioritize? How do you make early league currency (heist during campaign/after)? What initial and proceeding atlas passive trees do you favor? Etc. Probably biggest thing for most early-ish players would be if you have limited time, what tends to bring the biggest bang for the buck since POE really demands a lot of the player's time, which not everyone can give. Great guide, and best luck with baby Woolie!

Coming back to this video (which was my first introduction to PoE) after playing for ~20 hours and using these tips just to say thank you. Your advice has gotten me over the main hurdles I had when I tried this game several years ago and was a prompt beach quitter. It felt clunky and awkward when I played all that time ago and I just went back to Diablo. After this past week of playing I don't think I can ever go back to Diablo. I'm currently in Act 5 and have been having so much fun progressing and every time I get a new piece of gear or a passive skill that seems to make my build even more broken, it makes me feel like I'm getting away with something I shouldn't be allowed to... it's AWESOME. I've had some bumps along the way but even those feel so good to surpass and figure out why something wasn't working. I'm hooked, and want to thank you for your help getting me started in this behemoth of a game.

It's a game that is very much not made for casuals. Most new people (I say this as a new player, and by that I mean I have 200 hours in the game) will need a few attempts at getting into it. If you remember your first time playing well (and listen to his essential instructions, trust me), then your second attempt at getting into it will have you caring more. And so and until youre either hooked or entirely sure that the game isn't for you.

You need, Need, NEED to make more POE content. Ziz is great and all, he knows what he's doing for being informative and teaching, but holy shit I fall asleep to his near monotone lmao. How you format your shit, especially with the new change, is so good and is what I need. I'm just a fledgling exile (about 200h) and NEED good info to help me get better. When someone got me to finally play through getting to maps n shit (played cobra lash in sentinel, good shit, so fun) I ended up disenfranchised from the "just lightly copy a build and then just buy it" type gameplay, didn't fulfill me, so I recently started standard ssf (don't know how frequent I'll play, I'll get back into leagues when I know more).
    SOOOO
After your endgame basic guide and whatever else you wanna talk about before getting deeper into shit, I would love a moderately detailed series of each of the league mechanics, cause like I only have a slim understanding of how to go deep in any of them at all (mostly my current preferred, heist), and will probably stick with SSF, so knowledge is the #1 most important thing for me to have.
Also a quick note for clarification because I had to look it up just now, just having a public account wont help import your character to POB, you need to uncheck "Hide Characters Tab"

That is what people call " a proper guide". it was super educational, funny and easy to understand. Thank you for the effort to make the video. I will probably watch it a few times just to fix my character. One question. Do you have a video explaining the passive tree and we're is the best to start from or should I go fallow the build guide 😂😂😂

definitely use a build guide for that! I do have a "passive tree tierlist", albeit, just for the Marauder, atm, but def just stick to a guide.

I understand the importance of build guide, but it kinda defeat the purpose of me "playing" a game. It feels like a task at work, which I am trying to get away from lol
I am still only lvl 19, and patiently reading my way through creating a 2H melee build. Will I regret later on by playing the game casually, and by "feel" only? I mean, I try to be logical with my build as I go through it, I just don't feel like tinkering with strict guides and be told what to do. I game for freedom, enjoyment, discovery.

However...as always PoE player never stops to learn so ~ in poe trade is something new for me and will come in handy as hell, thank you!

Explain for newbies about boss kill builds and mapper builds, explain about combinations of league mechanics, and specific mechanics which not vell stuck with others, for example alva temple, cos you loosing profits while you spray your focus on other mechanics. Make tier list of farm strategies: boss rush, blight, mf, simulacrum, master memories and more and more

I played the game with some friends years ago, got to act six, and when I returned years later, I had no idea what my build was, beyond that I was a necromancer. I'm mainly questioning whether I should just restart or if I can rebuild from where I am. Spoilers from this point.
All I remember is that I killed Malachi, putting an end to the threat of thaumaturgy, and that when I was in Oriath taking revenge, I freed Kitava, who killed me MANY times because there just weren't enough corpses in the room to keep the pressure up. I returned to Wraeclast, and there was something about infiltrating a prison, that's where I stopped.

The best advice so far was utilizing the craft bench for all res on everything. I assume a lot of new players are just afraid to spend their resources without knowing how rare they are or what it really does short or long term.
I pretty much have an idea and for my first few characters.. archetypes I wanna go for.
I wanna experience the skill tree shit raw as a new player and just experiment cause that is literally the only way I learn is doing things lol..
I pretty much just went with the idea of a poison range guy that leeches hp and mana per damage tick making me immortal and it's fucking amazing 👏
    I don't lvl life at all 😅
Just life per hit with a 46 energy shield and like over half my mana missing on reserve.. I beat malachai with just over 500 max hp 😅
And a crude bow with just 3 green links.
I never really die unless I get careless and forgot a buff or don't pay attention to cooldowns or what ability I'm casting.
When I'm locked in I'm immortal and I just wanna get to the point where I can forget to use my buffs for the hardest enemy in the game and must turn my brain off while being immortal xD
I did copy some streamers ideas but for the tree I went in mostly blind. I'm now ascended to raider so I can combine frenzy with vitality with a little bit of warbanner to help with the caustic multishot
Then I use snipers mark for tanky enemies and the other mark that gives leech on the heavy hitting enemies.
Frostblink and potions for the bs one-shot mechanics. Health pots with cold or bleed immunity for certain bosses is nice! Plus extra res or armor if you need it.
It's not complicated tbh.. this does help a lot.
I'll try a build guide for the same archetype in the future with balance changes added and see how it plays having a build created by someone arguably more nerdy than me.
But I like this approach just in case I find the next broken thing that people will be copying me lol
