  • newwheel.net/a... In our travels through Europe, we have enjoyed many rides on Dutch bikes over flat terrain. The Arroyo, at first glance, appeared to be a bike better suited for the flats. Upon closer inspection (and some truly blissful test rides) we realized that the Arroyo is a new breed of bicycle. Incorporating all of the comfort and convenience of Dutch engineered (and manufactured) bicycles, while remaining peppy and responsive thanks to the Bosch Active Line drive, the Gazelle Arroyo has become one of our favorite all around commuters.

    3:40 - If you actually plug in an AXA cable, designed for these locks, it *does* make it a very secure lock. Almost nobody is aware of this feature outside Europe.

      You can buy here in the Netherlands plug in cables from different brands fitting on this lock and everybody knows here in the Netherlands. Unfortunetely thiefs use a "Polish key" to open the lock within seconds. They basicly can open every lock but a good advise is to lock the " cafe lock" on the place of the ventile. The ventile will be damaged by if they try to open the lock. That makes it less attractive to steal. I use 3 different locks on my ebike plus an alarm.

    I LOVE the folks at the New Wheel! I have a Kalkhoff Sahel but I am always looking to what's new and what I might consider as my next (I am on my third electric bike) e-bike will be. Beautifully done video with tons of practical info. Brava Karen and New Wheel. Your fan in Benicia

    Before you buy a Gazelle e-bike, first ask the dealer whether each battery-pack needs to be registered to the e-bike by a Gazelle dealer. If so, do NOT buy it. Gazelle markets it as anti-theft, but it doesn't prevent your battery from being stolen in any way. It forces you to only buy additional or replacement battery-packs from Gazelle and those are freaking expensive.

    1:11 three seconds later, you got off the bike and push it up the hill using push assist because the motor and battery were straining.

    1:30 & 4:36 - handlebars are too far away for these people - needs moving closer. You should never ride with locked out elbows, they should be quite bent to give you full control.

    Can this bike go off on trails

    • @thenewwheel
      @thenewwheel  Рік тому

      It can, but it really isn’t the ideal bike for that. We’d recommend something more like the Ultimate or Medeo for light off-road. For more technical off-road, look at an Orbea or Riese & Müller.

    2:50 - actually, Shimano roller brakes (not the cheap versions) are even better - they are consistent in all weather, make no mess, don't wear the rim down, don't require replacing brake shoes, will work even if the wheel is not true... but because most bike shop mechanics have NFI about them, they don't like selling bikes with them outside Europe or Japan. Pity....

    • @shannontrainer5857
      @shannontrainer5857 3 роки тому

      Paul Martin too bad they’re terrible going down hills because they’re susceptible to brake fade. Not a problem on flat terrain where heavy Dutch bikes are limited to.

    Pity people still need to dress like they're in an Audax when they ride the things.Ditch the fluoro, helmet, gloves and 'technical clothing'. It's a car substitute, not sports equipment and wearing all that crap on a bike like this just looks daft.

    • @shannontrainer5857

      So they could conform to your narrative? You sound like a Dutch upright bike fundamentalist.

    • @rich_edwards79
      @rich_edwards79 3 роки тому +2

      Agreed, I have been seriously looking at big Dutch bikes and one of the attractions is that they're intended as comfortable transportation not 'sports equipment' that requires lots of special 'cycling' clothing. I find all of that a real turnoff not least because of the way that some sports cyclists look down on older, bigger, less fitness oriented / competitive riders.

    • @shannontrainer5857
      @shannontrainer5857 3 роки тому +1

      Richard Edwards Actually, it’s Dutch bike fundamentalists who look down on road cyclists and MTBers simply because they ride Dutch upright bikes exclusively. Here’s a few tweets I’ve dug up:
      Patsy Keane (Kane in Ballinasloe) @KeanePatsy:
      This is interesting. I love cycling. In my opinion dropped handle bar racing bikes, anyone cleethed into a bike, or any groups of cyclists however small should be banned from cycle lanes. They are not designed for 25/40kms per hour average speeds.
      Limerick Cycle Design @LkCycleDesign
      Negative. I want to see bikes with drop bars banned from cities. A though stance to take but its for the greater good. It’ll be part of my mayoral manifesto in 2021.

    Whatever.
    Gazelle has a bad service.
    Also the quality is medium but expensive.
    Till 1980 Gazelle was the best bikes, now they use stuff from China.
    I don t buy it and i am Dutch.

      Sorry to hear that your experience was lacking. The dealer you buy from has a big part to play in the after sales service. We are always working to go above and beyond for our customers, whether they ride a Gazelle or any other brand.
      Best,
      Brett

      Don't listen to him. He's been moaning about Gazelle on other vids as well. I bought a Gazelle Orange 360 (NuVinci gears) in 2015 and I love this bike. 7.000 km in one year. My only tip would be a tire swap. A couple of Schwalbe Marathons will do fine.

    • @thenewwheel
      @thenewwheel  8 років тому +1

      Yes, totally agree with you on tires. Around here roads are not swept regularly, and marathon or marathon plus tires are a must.

      You don t know nothing about Gazelle in the Netherlands.
      Bad guarantee and a bad service!
      Speak for your own country, just like me.

      China is the manufacturer for the world. Both high and low quality products are produced in China.
