Bring you a big pot and heat some water over the fire. Also adding a pad under it will help a ton with the ground temps cooling the water as it's trying to heat.

Came here to say the same thing. Also wanted to add that after 7-8 years of van life, I would think that the convenience and savings of using a 20lb propane tank would make more sense than those expensive 1lb containers. JS.

@rudamchu Also, with a garage to store a big tank, buying the refillable 1-lb tank system would make more sense than to keep on using those disposable, non-recycleable, non-refillable tanks.

The one pound cylinders are refillable but it is not recommended. I use them for my propane lantern.
Amazon sells adapters to connect the cylinder to a 20lb tank. The adapter came with instructions for best filling and safety.
I carry a box of six cylinders to have on hand for my lantern and in case my big tank runs out.

Yes. 1. (Metal) Buckets or pans heating up water on the fire would have been a solution #1 to get the hot tub heated up on time. 2 And solution #2 for the dirty hot tub when you were done with it is to put it in a large garbage bag so it doesn't get your whole house dirty. 3 Solution #3 when running out of propane to cook your dinner or some hot chocolate is to heat it on the fire while you still had the fire roaring outside, and could have conserved some of that propane for the hot tub.

Yeah I can imagine the cold bare ground just sucking the heat out of the water, as the little propane bottles try to heat up the snow melt from the creek. A tarp on the ground and some layer on top of the tarp but under the tub might have helped insulate under it (cardboard, moving blanket, even your van carpets) and prevent the stratification of the water. And help with the cleanup... the hot tub doesn't get dirty and you can hang the tarp over some bushes or the back of the van and pour the last bucket of water over it to rinse the dirt off. You could also keep your cast iron pot or kettle in your van to hang over the fire, so you can add hot water like we used to when having old fashioned tub baths in front of the fire. Or signal to that other camper down the lake to join you, bring fuel or a pot lol :) Easiest is just bring a big propane tank with you

Just an idea think about putting batteries in a side to side step for the bed then have a bit higher bed which gives you more space under it. Think about splitting the batteries a couple on each side so you can still have a pass through under the bed.

The tub is obviously a high maintenance product. So are home hot tubs.
The tarp thing has already been mentioned.
Probably best to keep it inflated and drain it through the recirculating hole. Turn it upside down for an hour. That way you can dry it completely and wipe it with a Lysol wipe before putting it away.
I would use a large tote to keep it clean and prevent punctures.
    Like I said, high maintenance.

The hot tub holds about 350L. It takes about 10 mins to bring a pot of water to boil on a stove, maybe longer on a fire. If he heated half that hot tub to boil, 2L at a time, at best it would take 8 hours. The hot tub heats by itself in under two 🤷‍♀️

Dude, you just need to go to Home Depot and buy a coil of 1/4" copper tubing and then maybe find some vinyl or rubber tubing to connect both sides of the copper. One side for intake, other side for exhaust. Leave the copper tubing in a coil, throw it in the fire and siphon water through it and back into the tub. Basically heating the tub with the camp fire rather than wasting propane. The Joolka heater should only be used for showering. The tub is fine, especially if you buy a beefier pump to get water from the lake.

A coil of 3/4 inch copper water line that can be put into the camp fire and connected to your pump will work very well. The copper will not be damaged as long as you have water in it and is circulating to the hot tub. The copper line must be filled with water before going in the fire.

Agile off road makes a locking differential for the sprinter. I would also recommend their lift kit. John is a great guy and knows sprinters better they anyone.

You didn't have a kettle or pan to put over the fire to heat more water with?
That would have supplemented the propane water heating.

Go to a pool store or hardware store and purchase a short hose and fit it to the output inside the tub. This will allow you to direct the warm water around the tub.

CHROME! I can fix your hot tub issue fast as. Get Half inch copper pipe make about 8-10 coils about four inch diameter clamp your pump lines to it and place it in the coals in the fire brother. No more gas wastage and hot water in no time. Just make sure the in and out copper lines are long enough to not melt the water hose ay.

Why not use some of the rocks in the stream? Put them on the fire (on a rack?) and heat them up, then transfer them to the hot tub as it fills to help warm up the water. If you were worried about damage to the bottom, put another layer of something temporarily in the bottom (a towel?) while the rocks are cycled in and out. Transfer the hot rocks with your heavy gloves (or two sticks).
At least this time you put the cover on while it was filling :)

Have you thought of using your portable shower to fill the hot tub? it would pump water from the creek and heat it then discharge into the hot tub and I think it uses diesel rather than pricey little propane tanks!
I carry a few large contractor garbage bags - they are stronger and bigger than standard garbage bags. Super handy when I need to bring wet or muddy gear (e.g. inflatable kayak / hot tub) in into the camper. They are reusable after a quick rinse- turn inside out and let dry before putting away.
Also, those large blue IKEA bags are great for toting firewood!
What a beautiful lakeside spot- thanks for sharing!

Make a brass coil, put in the fire pit then put a small pump on it to circulate the water to and from the tub.
Also, it really helps to put something under it.

Used the 'orignal nomad' hot tub a few times. Takes some practice and troubleshooting, and will still take 4-8 hours to get to temperature.

Put a blue tarp down before you set up the hot tub it will keep it clean on the bottom, then you only have a dirt tarp you can fold up and stick the dirty tarp in a garbage bag and put it away without the mud mess ❤

I'm sorry you didn't get your hot tub, but I do have to say, it was funny hearing you say it was freezing while you were in shorts and a hoodie. I understand what you mean, it's just funny to hear. There's nothing worse than being cold and wet, I'm so glad you have a gas heater so you were able to get and stay warm. Cruz sitting so nicely wanting your dinner was typical bulldog. Velvet eared mooches.

Just a idea run your water thru a copper coil, and have the campfire in the middle, pre-heats the water so your heater doesn't work as hard
