My first language learned was assembly language for a shared IBM system. We used punch cards to load the program into the machine before we ran it. However, I've learned newer ones and RUST looks like a smarter and easier version of some of the program code I leaned early 2000's.

Great question, Brad. The most approachable, for folks who already know some programming, is the Rust book, doc.rust-lang.org/book/. I highly recommend that as a starting point. Otherwise just google "rust tutorial" and lots of great stuff will come up. What languages have you been using before? Or are you new to programming?
@@BlockchainBernie Thanks I like to start with a resource that is recommended! I haven't done a whole lot of computer programming, my background is ladderlogic and sequences in PLCs and industrial automation projects... Which are mostly just boiled down to if-then statements...
From Myra, Does somebody figure out how to test this USDT seed phrase? (clean party soccer advance audit clean evil finish tonight involve whip action). It may hold assets.
I am completely new to rust. My second langauge first was python but for data analystics. I am currently just going through rustlings and wanted to ask for your advice on how to approach rust? Do i just go through the book?
Yes the book is an awesome resource! However, there's nothing like learning by doing. Just set yourself a goal on what little practice project you want to do, and try to get it done step by step. If you don't know how to code a specific thing, google, stackoverflow etc are great resources. And even ChatGPT can help a lot these days.
Great vid. Will the Bitoku node be programmed on Rust and should node owners need to learn the language? Tks. p.s. my programming experience is limited to Basic (you can guess my age😂) and html.
Yes the Bitoku validator software will be built in Rust. But there is no need for the node owners to learn Rust - Bitoku does all the programming... :-) And yes, I remember BASIC too, even before C.
Of course. Sometimes (I would say often if not very often) memory safety is a hard requirement. I just don't want to write a major piece of software, that will make a dent in the universe, in a language in which it is very easy (in larger teams unavoidable?) to create memory leaks. How do we know? Well, decades of track record of memory leaks in C / C++ programs. :-)

Oh wow sounds great. I also remember the times when we were working with 8 inch diskettes :-) But I never really worked with punch cards.

What are some resources to learn basics of rust?

Glad you liked it
Looking for this topic and your video is really useful.

So thats why there's always JVM memory pressure in AWS.... I wonder if they're going to rewrite everything in rust
Sooner or later they will :-)

Weird that people is pushing rust so hard into everything... Now also in Linux kernel lol
Why do you think it's weird. I think it's great. Rust is a great language, and for some use cases there is no real alternative.
@@BlockchainBernie yes there is, C/C++ which have decades of proven track record

@@jordixboy c and c++ can always be hacked with simple stack overflow, for anything that needs be hack resistant rust is best
golang and rust are the best for blockchain
