    Lyrics -
    [Intro: Timbaland]
It's been a long time (Long time)
We shouldn't have left you (Left you)
Without a dope beat to step to
Step to, step to, step to (Step)
    Step to, step to, freaky-freaky
It's been a long time (Time)
We shouldn't have left you (Left you)
Without a dope beat to step to
Step to, step to, step to (Step)
    Step to, freaky-freaky-freaky
    Baby girl, uh
    [Verse 1: Aaliyah]
What would you do to get to me?
What would you say to have your way?
Would you give up or try again?
If I hesitate to let you in
Now would you be yourself or play a role?
Tell all the boys or keep it low?
If I say no, would you turn away?
Or play me off or would you stay?
    Oh
    [Chorus: Aaliyah]
And if at first you don't succeed (Oh)
Then dust yourself off and try again
You can dust it off and try again, try again
'Cause if at first you don't succeed
You can dust it off and try again
Dust yourself off and try again, try again
    Again, again
    [Verse 2: Aaliyah]
I'm into you, you into me
But I can't let it go so easily
Not 'til I see what this could be
Could be eternity or just a week
But, yo, our chemistry is off the chain
It's perfect now, but will it change?
    This ain't a yes, this ain't a no
    Just do your thing
    We'll see how we go
    [Chorus: Aaliyah]
And if at first you don't succeed (Oh, yeah)
Then dust yourself off and try again (Again)
You can dust it off and try again, try again (Yeah)
'Cause if at first you don't succeed (Ooh)
You can dust it off and try again (Try again)
Dust yourself off and try again (Yeah), try again
    Again, again
    [Verse 3: Aaliyah]
So, you don't wanna throw it all away
I might be shy on the first date
    What about the next date?
    Huh (Huh), huh (Huh)
    Huh (Huh), huh (Oh)
I said, you don't wanna throw it all away (Away)
I might be buggin' on the first date
What about the next date? (Date)
    Huh (Huh), huh (Huh)
    Huh (Huh), huh (Oh)
    [Chorus: Aaliyah]
And if at first you don't succeed
Then dust yourself off and try again
You can dust it off and try again, try again
'Cause if at first you don't succeed
You can dust it off and try again
Dust yourself off and try again, try again
    Again, again
    [Chorus: Aaliyah]
And if at first you don't succeed (Uh, yeah)
Then dust yourself off (Uh) and try again (You can)
You can dust it off and try again, try again (Again)
'Cause if at first you don't succeed (Ooh)
You can dust it off and try again (Again)
Dust yourself off and try again (Yeah), try again
    Again, again
    [Chorus]
And if at first you don't succeed (No)
Then dust yourself off and try again (Yeah)
You can dust it off and try again, try again (Yeah)
'Cause if at first you don't succeed (Baby)
You can dust it off (Hey) and try again (Yeah)
Dust yourself off and try again, try again
    Again, again
    [Interlude: Timbaland]
It's been a long time (Time)
We shouldn't have left you (Left you)
Without a dope beat to step to
Step to, step to, step to (Step)
Step to, step to, step to (Freaky)
It's been a long time (Time)
We shouldn't have left you (Left you)
Without a dope beat to step to
Step to, step to, step to
Step to, step to, step to (Freaky-freaky)
    [Chorus: Aaliyah & Timbaland]
And if at first you don't succeed
Then dust yourself off and try again
You can dust it off and try again, try again
'Cause if at first you don't succeed
You can dust it off and try again
Dust yourself off and try again, try again
    Again, again
    [Outro: Timbaland]
It's been a long time (Time)
We shouldn't have left you (Left you)
Without a dope beat to step to
Step to, step to, step to, what?
Step to, step to, freaky-freaky (Whoa)
It's been a long time (Time)
We shouldn't have left you (Left you)
Without a dope beat to step to
Step to, step to, step to, what?
Step to, step to, freaky-freaky (We out)
    One mo' again
    The new millennium, baby
And we out, you guess who it is

Yes truly an icon, a legend and a lovely person. I loved her smile, her acting, her singing and her character in her movie with Jet Li 🥴hope I'm spelling his name right. Aaliyah deserves to be celebrated and there should be Aaliyah Day. A national day of the year 🎊 to celebrate her and not look at her life as a tragedy. She's more than a woman like the lyric in one of her songs goes 🎶 and she'll always be our LEGEND....May she RIP because with God, she's in a better place.

Natural Kinky Curly―Marie what are you talking about? Aaliyah’s music in GENERAL is very ahead of it’s time. I play her music In my car all the time and my little cousin and his friends always ask “who is this, she sounds dope, is she a new artist?” And I have to explain to them that she died nearly 20 years ago and they faces be shook. This is the same reason why we need a resolution didn’t do well, it didn’t do well because at that time nobody was making music like that so people didn’t catch on to that single until later. Her music is timeless yes but it’s also way ahead of her time in 2001.

Indeed. Plus, it would have been nice if they would have had a sequel to "Romeo must Die" if she didn't pass away as the chemistry between her and Jet Li was amazing. There's a legend that the original version of "Romeo must Die" included the scene where Aaliyah and Jet li had kissed but because for some reason they thought it would be awkward if her character wound up kissing his character after he watched his father do himself in because of the murder of his brother that it would not be so well. If I become the boss of Warner Brothers Discovery, I will release that version or make them release that version.

They need to make a NEW album of unreleased songs. She recorded so many of them between 1998- 2001,
maybe they could update it with fresh new artists who've replicated her sound before like Syd or Brent Faiyaz? Her fans should be allowed to have decisions on her upcoming album cuz we didn't work so hard to get her music on streaming services just to have Drake's corny ass on it

Aaliyah kinda got that back then, but not really. She was always relatable to black people but also had an alternative side. Sometimes people didn’t understand it but thought it was cool. Kinda like MJ and Prince. They were black artist but very eccentric as well. She was kinda like that, but not as weird. 😌

I’m 25, born in ‘97, so I was too young or either had little to no memories of when Aaliyah’s music was actually released and when she was alive but I’m just truly thankful for my mother’s music taste as I grew up listening to her music, she was a very talented and beautiful young woman and her music, music videos and performances I’ve watched or listened to just proves this. Aaliyah’s left a legacy behind that still inspires a lot of people today, including me❤️
