I successfully took the old wire assembly out from the old disposer to reuse it in the new disposer. Thanks to you for pointing out the tabs inside. The angled wrench that comes with the disposer is handy in pressing the tabs. I had to press one tab, prop the assembly up a bit, turn the assembly 180°, and press the other tab. There is only space for pressing one of them.
Sell me a $250 disposal and don't include a power cord!!! That's dishonest! I've swapped them out in the past but now you install a cord that can't be easily removed and reused, again dishonest! Shame on the manufacturer!
This is quite silly and disappointing that manufacturer wouldn’t make that cable and plug reusable. They also don’t include the cable when you buy a new one.
The funny (and sad) thing I’ve discovered is that this same model is cheaper with the plug, versus the one with no wires at all. I’m thinking I’ll save the $$ and buy this one with the plug, then remove the plug and hardwire it in myself. Looks pretty easy.
Thanks much for this…just up against the very same replacement job with no instructions or easy means provided by Insinkerator on how to remove the prewired power cord for a not so atypical, hard wired installation. Sorry to also hear that getting the new unit onto its sink mount is not as easy any reasonable person would think it should be. I’ll be sure to slam Insinkerator for their shabby design and lacking of electrical instructions on Amazon…. Happy Holidays!! :)
I applaud DIY, but this is a fire hazard. Romex poking out of the wall is not up to code. Something could snag on and damage the romex. The simplest solution here would have been to fish the existing wire out from a slightly different spot, put a junction box over it, add a GFCI outlet to the junction box and plug the disposal in. It's DIY and might have even been faster. For the solution shown here, at the very least the connection to the disposal should be fixed so that the strain relief clamps go over the romex sheathing and not the individual wires. People can jostle the romex or the wires and damage them. Overtime the wires can fray and lead to a fire hazard.
Great video. Mine has the same power cord. There's another video where a guy uses tin snips to cut out a notch. ua-cam.com/video/IF4BSou3TIE/v-deo.html The Insinkerator Evolution Compact has the same dimensions as the Badger 5. That's what I'm going with to replace. ua-cam.com/video/luj6zEvraRQ/v-deo.html It won't rust as fast because the inside assembly is stainless steel.
Yes! I thought it was just me being a woman to complain that it was a man who created this poorly designed contraption… Sacrificing my nails and weak muscles to get the job done.Hmmph!

You were a huge help buddy! Bought a disposal with the wire already and thought I had to get another different one!
This is the information we were looking for on this brand. Thanks!

Thanks, showed me what I was going to be dealing with.
Just FYI you remove that plug your remove your warranty. These garburator are available at any local wholesaler with or without the plug.

Why not install the mounting flange with the words straight
We just lifted it with a flat head and cut it with a oscillator multitool lol company has to be well aware of this.
Thank you so much!!!
Thanks, this verified my fear that the cord is a one way snap in setup and not designed to be removed.
Hahaha you left the plug you punched out in the disposal didn't you?
