  • An encoder is a communication device that controls the motion of an operating device. Encoders can help determine the speed or position of a motor, or other moving equipment. Encoders convert motion to an electrical signal that can be read by some type of control device in a motion control system, such as a counter or PLC. The encoder sends a feedback signal that can be used to determine position, count, speed, or direction. A control device can use this information to send a command for a particular function.
    There are two different types of encoders: linear and rotary. A linear encoder responds to motion along a path, while a rotary encoder responds to rotational motion.

    Two questions to galo TV
    can a encoder work without external or supply voltage?
    What is the rating of a encoder?

    Thanks so much for this video @GalcoTV ... a question: Can a device be added to an incremental encoder to make it behave like an absolute encoder?

    • @GalcoIndustrial
      @GalcoIndustrial  6 років тому +4

      Well not exactly. However the primary difference between an Incremental and Absolute encoder is a battery, or battery terminals for an external battery to connect to it and save in memory where it was if the machine powers down. So it knows at all times absolutely where the heck it is, that is until the battery dies, lol
