In the 19th century, Spiritualists believed they had breached the veil between the worlds of the living and the dead. To help them And in their macabre communications with these spirits, they invented a diverse array of devices. And the world’s prevailing occult archeologist and collector of these spirit communication artifacts lives right here in Austin.
During the day Brandon Hodge owns and operates two popular shops on SoCo-Big Top Candy Shop and Monkey See, Monkey Do. At night though, he immerses himself in the bizarre world of tipping tables, séances, and ghostly encounters. This historian’s home is filled with an expansive collection of automatic writing planchettes, Ouija, séance relics, and other occult antiquities. Before you come, be sure to check out his Instagram and his website. You’ll find extensive background on many of the items in his collection as well as an excellent primer on the early Spiritualist movement.

Great show, history, and collection! I like Ouija Boards so much I built a small factory. Very small - 1/87 scale. I like seeing the seance relics too. Thanks for the video and bringing Weird Homes to a wider audience here on UA-cam.

@@davidjneff Yes indeed, and thank you too. I really enjoy the old-time workmanship, graphics, and typeface used in those Ouija items. I look forward to his book. I've never been to Austin but I hear some people from my home state of California are moving in. Probably from a few other states as well, bringing in those business dollars but higher housing costs as well.
