I think this video is highly valuable, unofficial or not. And we get your opinions on buffets and shows, why wouldn't we get it about changes affecting people while they travel?
I hadn't heard anything about this before so I'm glad you talked about it. My health has kept me from my years-long-planned trips to Europe and the UK but I still have hope they'll be resolved and I can finally go. I wasn't planning to use a travel agent but now I think I will. I'll want someone who knows all the things I need to take care of before going. Considering my country is doing its best to tick off our allies, I know it may become harder.
Thank you for the info, Morgan!

It's so much fun watching Americans freak out right now about the ETIAS (EU) and ETA (UK); not realizing europeans have had to pay the US for an ESTA for 15 years

Freak out over paying an additional $7.00 USD? I think not but perhaps I’m in the minority. I love the UK and the EU and $7.00 isn’t going to make me reconsider my travel plans.~ Cheers!

I never thought that I’d say this, but I’m so afraid for what the future is going to be for our family members. My husband and I have been together since 1994 and I feel that we’ve been so fortunate to have fairly equal rights. Except for aids, we have had things really great.
Thank you so much for this incredible channel of yours and of course thanks to your amazing German husband as well!

I am glad you highlighted the trans issue at the end of this discussion. My daughters UK passport says F for gender, but I have always advised her to take a copy of her birth certificate and the gender transfer papers when she travels as she looks gender neutral due to hormone treatment she takes.

Thanks for the gentle gender talk. We're Canadian and this affects a close family member (Canadian). We won't be going to the US for at least 4 years. Why are some people so obsessed with the body parts of others? Is this going to head towards other things like breastfeeding laws? It's scary.

I will be taking a cruise to the Mediterranean this April and have been looking into the ETIAS, but as you said, it's vague on when it starts, plus it mentioned a 180 day grace period, which to me is confusing at best. I signed up for email alerts when it goes into effect or when there is a update, which I hope will keep me informed before my cruise.

Not sure if this applies if flying into the UK and change directly to another flight, but when flying into any Schengen country, you do the immigration and security controls at the first airport and then are considered a domestic passenger as far as immigration and security is concerned, but still will have to pass through customs, as not all Schengen countries are part of the EU.
So if flying to the UK from the US for example, I‘d think you would have to go through security again, but not border or customs control, as you aren‘t entering the UK technically.

Hi Morgan, you probably should rather say Schengen than EU in connection with the new registration rules. While Switzerland isn‘t part of the EU, we‘re luckily part of the Schengen area. So if someone flies into Switzerland, they haven’t entered the EU yet, but since there (normally) aren‘t any passport checks when traveling between Switzerland and Germany / Austria / France / Italy you already need the travel authorization when entering Schengen via EU.
BTW, that‘s also why anyone flying into any Schengen country from outside the Schengen area and changing to any other flight , you have to go through a security check again, as you are only considered „Non-Schengen secure“ :-)

  • @RJNL90

So the EES is having some issues. It has been delayed for years at this point. The important thing though is that ETIAS will not come into play until at least 6 months after EES is introduced. But yeah, in general, EES should be beneficial to travellers and reduce queues significantly.
Also, sidenote, when you mentioned people exempt from payment, it is referring to people who are certain specific family members of EU/EEA/CH citizens with the right to movement via their family member. So for instance, if you are a non-EU/EEA/CH child of a German citizen or the non-EU/EEA/CH spouse of a Greek citizen or a non-EU/EEA/CH dependant parent of a Norwegian citizen.

Morgan, thanks for your comments. As an American I appreciate your view and wasn’t aware of the passport change, but then again I wasn’t aware that DEI was the root of all evil, either. That and undocumented immigrants. My only question is when all of those “problems” are “resolved” and Trump’s base are still mired in their miserable lives, who and what will they come for next? I guess we’ll find out soon enough.

As an American, I'm ashamed to be one. I've always been, live and let live. I'm mortified by this administration. Apparently racism and bigotry and hate has been behind back doors. No longer and I fear for any of those who are going to pay the price. So, please don't think we are all the same. We are not, and will die fighting for everyone's rights and liberties. Take care and be nice to one another.

Morgan, as an assist on the correct definitions - Gender is a social construct related to the presentation norms generally attributed to the sex of an individual (e.g. men wear trousers, women wear dresses). Sex is the biological aspect of the person related to genetic makeup and reproductive organ development. While variations are rare, sex is not actually binary (only male and female). I hope that helps, since it is common to conflate the terms.

Yes, I know Europeans have been doing this for years to visit the U.S., but it does worry me. I will give these new changes time to "work" then I will decide if I want to travel.

Even taking the political and human rights issues out of it this just seems like a large mess. I mean if you show up at a country and you have male listed on your passport there are many who transitioned so well that it is nearly impossible to tell. I can see many countries looking at the person and thinking that their passport is fake. The other risk would be that there are other countries (like say Russia) where giving them the heads up that a person is trans puts a target on their back. I do feel for my trans friends out there. As far as in the USA I don't think that anyone who is trans coming into the states with an "incorrect" passport will be flagged as with the cuts going on I will be willing to bet airport security will be so understaffed that they will only give a basic glance before moving on to the next person.

  • @joleighva

Doesn’t this also include flying through a country? Like if I’m flying from the US to Italy, but my plane stops in England, just long enough to get on my next flight, I would still need to get it for England, even though I’m not staying there?
BTW, only the 23% of registered American voters who voted for the current president seem to be preoccupied with trans people, who make up less than half a percent of our population. 🙄 The rest of us either don’t care or are allys.
We canceled our Med cruise this year until we can figure out just how much he’s going to make the rest of the world hate us. We went on our last Med cruise the week Obama was elected and were welcomed with open arms everywhere. I don’t think this time will be the same!

    @dwf02130 21 годину тому

Despite the extensive attention given here, neither EES nor ETIAS is going to ruin your cruise. What might, for a select few travelers adversely impact one’s cruise is the “diary” you mention. As has always been the case, non-EU residents/citizens visiting a country in the Schengen Zone are limited to a total of 90 days within the last 180-day time period. The “diary” you mention simply makes it instantly viewable to immigration authorities on arrival if you have exceeded (or are about to exceed) that 90-day limit. Currently that’s a manual process. The only thing that is changing is the ability for travelers to slip through the cracks in the 90-day limit (as an expat in France it’s not uncommon for Americans who have exceeded their 90-day limit to be allowed entry due to the challenge of scanning the entry/exit stamps on a passport). It’s important to know that leaving the Schengen Zone does not “reset” your clock.
