    Hey! I just figured it out Izzy! You are like the modern day Leonardo da Vinci with your machines! Subbed and stoked!

    IZ the WIZ! you are the first (that I have seen so far) to make a nut threading assembly using a powered tool! While I have seen this in a wood work book of old, you are the first (that I have seen so far) to make a working model of it on you tube. and I have seen probably hundreds of vids on this. All others have used a threading reamer

    If the wood working community had a mad scientist category, you sir would own the title.

    Brilliant idea, and execution thereof. Would a keyhole bit (for the nut) and a straight flute of the same OD as the keyhole bit (for the bolt) work, for a square bottomed thread? Shimming one end of the bolt a few thou and running another pass might give enough clearance...

    Not yet Robert.. I have done one 2 inch and 3 teeth per inch and it was the best looking one yet.. I want to a few big ones for a future bench vise project. So I will be in near future.. I will post a video when I do..

    Great stuff, Have you ever thought about building your own power feed mech for table saw or router table?

    • @izzyswan
      @izzyswan  10 років тому

      James Hamilton yes i have done it back in the day. I dont think there is enough interest in that for a build though

    izzy, after watching your horizontal router machine in action, I realize you might want to look at some of the legacy mill videos out there. you might pick up on some more ideas of what you can do. ignore the cnc videos. I have owned a manual legacy since 2001 and there are more things I can do on it than all my other machines combined (including my table saw). check out how to do hollow spirals and you'll be hook.

    How do you set this up to cut specific tpi? Can I get plans to make it, doesn't have to be a full sketchup or pdf dimensional "plan," just some notes on the basic principles and premise would suffice.

    The old secret for doing it by hand was to soak the dowel in water for a day. Gets rid of tear out.

    Izzy, check out Kingsport video, 77 The secret to making perfect wooden nuts & bolts. He soaks the wood in mineral oil until it’s saturated then he cuts the wood with a hand die. No tearing threads.

    I think the term 'genius' is often misapplied, but it would be safe to say, compared to your skills and imagination, Son of Sam is a maniac.
    I just showed my wife this video and I told her that this is why I watch so much "woodworking porn".... and she thought I was referring to your muscle T-shirt. Thanks Izzy, I have no idea how to calm her down.

    Err … "up 'n down and back 'n forth" is more two dimensional than three no ?…
    to go 3D it should add at least left 'n right … Right ?…
    Great vid as always, anyway.
    Thanks for posting !
