  • The Wyandotte Caves have been mined by Native Americans for thousands of years and are open to the public. Wyandotte Caves were designated a National Natural Landmark in 1972. They are now part of O'Bannon Woods State Park. The cave system is the 5th largest in the state of Indiana.
The term "Wyandotte Caves" is used to refer to Wyandotte Cave (sometimes called the "Historic Cave") and Little Wyandotte Cave (also called Siberts Cave and sometimes called the "New Cave"), but the two caves are completely different. They are located very close to each other, and are owned and managed by the same entity. There the resemblance ends.
Today we tour Little Wyandotte Cave. It is an easy 30 minute tour that is only about 50 feet underground. The caves at one time were owned by the Rothrock family until the state of Indiana bought the property in 1966.
There used to be a lodge on the property and they are hoping to build one there again in the future. The view from the hilltop is breathtaking. A perfect place for a lodge.
The caves are closed in the winter because Indiana bats hibernate in the caves during the winter.
Thanks for coming along with us!
    Keith & Terri

I love to see caves. So other worldly. It has been so long since I’ve gone through a cave.

We enjoyed your visit to the Wyandotte Caves, Keith and Terri. Nice adventure. You're right, it doesn't pay to be tall when exploring caves! Or wide either! 🤣🤣Love the formations and knowledgeable tour guide. Caves are always dark and easy to get hurt in. Tough to video too and you did a wonderful job! Thanks for bringing us along.

Yes! Our GoPro is terrible in low light so we didn’t even bring it. Thanks for watching! Have a wonderful weekend Dave & Kathy! 😊

What a beautiful area. I looked it up on Google Earth to get a better idea of the total picture. Wow. I know what you mean about it being stunning in Autumn Terri. Nice to go back to a childhood memory. Thanks for the tour of the cave. Well filmed I must say. 👌🌺🇳🇱🙋‍♀🇳🇿

People used to be allowed to write on the caves? Wow. I am surprised that was ok, even back then. We love seeing caves. It has been a few years since we last went to tour some caves. Thanks for sharing Little Wyandotte Cave with us. We look forward to the big cave next week!

OUTSTANDING! You did an incredible job of covering Little Wyandotte!
You also got a definite perk: Stanley Baelz for a tour guide. He not only knows the caves well, but manages the Wyandotte and O’Bannon State Park area.
Again, simply wonderful coverage, with great descriptions and photography! 🙂

Thanks Roger! That means a lot coming from you! Your videos are always so well done! Stan was not supposed to do our tour but the other guide was still in the cave at the time of our tour so Stan jumped in and did it!

@@RetiredLovingIt My heart feels good, that both our channels, have shown people “the other show caves”. Wyandotte doesn’t have a budget like the other ones, and it’s just as worthy of a visit.
