Dear Aussies...don't take the moral highground sitting in your fancy studio! In Australia, radical Khalistanis are attacking Indians in your major cities in broad daylight, defacing temples and monuments and yet both the Australian press and official reaction has been tepid at best. Indians as a diaspora are global champions. We are educated and contribute significantly to the GDP growth of a country. What is making Australia tolerate radicals and terrorists? What are they contributing?
Let us not question media quality and freedom knowing how so called independent media serve the agenda of their masters worldwide. We know well how anti India forces are shocked at India's rapid development and progress and are doing everything they can to pull India down. And the so called liberal west is at the center of this anti India strategy.
Australian media should focus on the positive if they want a great and beneficial relationship with India. All these experts have not lived in this difficult region, have no clue about the complex history of this side of the world and should therefore, not make unnecessary comments about India. The choice is yours. Wonder how did Australia cozy up with China all these years given the Chinese track record!

In 1990, India was ahead of China on per capita GDP. Today it is 6 times poorer. What India's rapid growth do you speak off? Why are more Indians malnourished today vs 2014? It's your own government's data. Who has time to pull down people, who are already sunk?

India went nearly bankrupt in 1991 then we liberalized our economy but then US put sanctions on for 2 freaking years because we tested 5 nuclear bomb and nuclear power state
then the previous govt didn't focus on Infra development and manufacturing there focus was on service sector and IT
and yes India make rapid growth
India is 11th largest economy in 2014 and now 5th largest economy and 3rd largest in terms of PPP by 2027 we will be 3rd largest economy in World
and not forget to mention that India is also fastest growing major economy in the world
poverty rate reduce 20.3% to 10 % and extreme poverty has come down to less than 1 % ( report from IMF )
and the all indexes of democracy, Freedom of press, Freedom of religion, hunger etc. we know how they are made

Crew sizes matter greatly with our submarine choices as does their mission capability, boat cost and generational advancement of design and build for stealth, speed, advanced capabilities (UUV drone deployment etc) and mission versatility.
Virginia are a good interim and a good boat with excellent capability but Astute is more advanced and next generation Astute will be even more so. The UK is not able to build more Astute as they are moving toward production of the Dreadnought class SSBN after the last two Astute being built now are complete.
The Virginia are a great stopgap until the more advanced and jointly developed SSNX (next gen Astute) are ready to be built and Australia will by then have sufficiently proficient people and infrastructure to join in maturely to the alliance submarine program.

Submarines are just the price Australia is being made to pay for USA and British protection when we are attacked. Could be any unaffordable military hardware. Anyone think nuclear powered submarines delivered in 2040 will change Australia's prospects of winning a war? Why are we involved in world conflicts that don't concern us?
Not everyone is as wise Peter.A few subs wont make any difference.Australia,NZ and the pacific islands are looked at as places of holiday or a tourist destination and dont even make it to the radar of these world powers and defnlonitely not as warring nations .Just wannabe military powers with hardly a military to show off.350 billion is a lot of tax payers money.
In terms of our ability to train up personnel, I have no doubt we can do it. Issue is we haven’t had the roles available at such as surplus and we haven’t promoted the benefits of a career in the military effectively; whether that be free dental, housing support and a good salary.
Nuclear propelled subs are an interesting acquisition and think they will benefit us significantly. While Morrison didn’t get a lot right, this is a defining policy that will benefit us far into the future.

Amazing how we as a nation don't bat an eyelid over an open ended cost for subs and necessary infrastructure. Incredibly disturbing that we are increasing our military budget and role as a joint base. Just what we need as a vision of Australia and humanity going into a new century.

@@shootatsquare You need to go to the extreme to try and make your point? A small number of subs is going to do diddly squat for our defense. It involves us more and more in ramping up tensions, and catastrophic warfare. That's the best course of action is it? That's the peak of human civilization and potential? Lets face facts we can't defend ourselves to any significant degree. Ludicrous spending and ramping up our part in tensions does nothing for us. We obviously need some military, but surely efforts are better spent toward diplomacy, codevelopment of our neighbors, and the nation in general. This is just a dangerous money sink.

@@locuus7 unfortunately China now has the world’s largest navy, by size (not displacement) and a large long-range anti-ship capability. Thus these types of subs that have anti-ship and cruise missile launch capacity are vital event for basic defensive needs.

Australia should not get involved in the US war against China. If the USA wants to be confrontational with China, then that is their destiny and has nothing to do with us. Australia needs to remain a trading nation and have diplomatic relationships with all nations. We are not a vassal state of the USA. Do we really need submarines? How does this help with our security?
Two points, Beijing prefers bilateral relationships to multi-lateral relationships because it allows them to divide and conquer; diplomatically, economically, (and hopefully not) militarily. So Australia, as a nation that is much smaller than China, needs a hedge against that. Secondly, Ukraine signed an agreement (Budapest Memorandum) when it gave up its nuclear weapons in the early nineties that would have its security guaranteed by Russia, the US and the UK. Obviously their belligerent neighbour didn't value that agreement, and thankfully for them the two other signatories have defended Ukraine. At times the CCP has been belligerent over its borders (c.f. India, Bhutan, South China Sea). So again Australia needs a deterrent.
@@TankEnMate Your opinion about the situation in Ukraine is more complex than a simple narrative about a belligerent neighbor. Furthermore, assuming you are correct about China - I disagree that China is the real threat-, a few submarines will do nothing to protect Australia. Maybe, Australia should have its own nuclear weapons as a deterrent and forget about any other weapons. This way Australia does not need to follow the USA in all their wars to dominate the world. P.S. Your points about China are exactly what the US does to make the world subjugated to it and, as with Germany, if the US attacks an ally then Australia can have its own sovereignty if we are not a vassal state of the USA.
