I've played osrs the entire time since 2013. also note.. I am a gamebreaker specifically for the Eoc beta. so yeah.
As a trimmed master comp caper I’ve switched switched to mainly playing osrs and love the consistent good updates. On rs3 the Easter event was good but I finished it in a few days and the roadmap is disappointing so I’ll be sticking with osrs
4th conjure, filling the missing slots for the other styles (aka t90-t95 for things like boots gloves shields etc), defender upgrades even though they are useless sort of now, rex necro boss, continuation of old storylines that never got an ending (the desert and gnomes), more about demonheims final floor and moia, and ofc the most important update we need to see is clan updates.
The most recent combat update was fucking insane. IMO, the game is so much more enjoyable now, at least pvm wise. Based on how much they outdid themselves for the combat rework, I really don’t mind a lackluster roadmap
The thing is that combat update is not content (it is a glorified fix of a project oversight for which someone should be fired btw) and it is even less of a content considering it is relevant for maybe 5% of player population. It fixed the pressing issue with the old combat triangle being left in the dust but only for top pvm core. Good ol' Timmy the weekend pvmer is not going to use old triangle when necro is easier and cheaper and in 95% of cases performs just fine. And if he tries he will find out it sucks compared to necro because even though it can get him better times at some stuff he does, it takes more effort and costs more in gear. Current player population is at early 2019 numbers sometimes even worse during very good easter event. They need something for everyone to look forward to like in 2019 with arch and herb/farm 120s to keep them in the game. And there is a void now except for a quest and ongoing graphical update project.
Don't be melodramatic, RS3 isn't going anywhere. People have been saying the exact thing you've been saying since EOC and RS3 has been fine. Check the player count tracker if you don't believe me. The long term average has roughly stayed the same for the past decade.

The lowest it's ever been has been October 2019 where it was just under 19,000 players. RS3 will be fine, as always. a new skilling boss would be nice. something that could incorporate a couple skills that scales with your level xp wise like wintertodt and maybe a mechanic system like arch glacor where we can toggle on and off mechanics
The higher quality graphics are likely the whole reason we're even in this mess. Content devs are having to wait on art requests much longer than before because of needing much higher poly models, higher res textures, and much more articulated animations, which heavily slows down development. Lower res graphics are the biggest reason osrs can create content so much more quickly. We'd be much better off if they had just stuck with the rshd style - both in terms of graphical consistency across all areas of the game, and in terms of the content release cadence.
Varlamore his the epitome of how osrs has completely lost itself and morphed into this strange world of endless random items and bosses that have no association to “old school” RuneScape.
I know, I know - these updates are underwhelming. But I can assure that TONS of updates are in the works by Jagex - putting tons of valuable time into creating new & exciting MTX events that are not even a part of the actual game besides ruining it with P2W! Always a nice way to see where their priorities are at… Now that I’ve been playing other MMO’s I realize just how slow and extremely small RuneScape’s updates really are. Using a quarter of a year to hype up a RS quest is highly underwhelming, especially when you compare them to highly immersive quest from other games, releasing hundreds of new quest a year, all way more complex than any RuneScape quest could ever be. RS3 is just a cash-grab who after plaguing the game with MTX wants to NOW make vocal player surveys (which OSRS has had forever), but to late for giving us a say after you’ve damaged the game beyond repair by IGNORING your RS3 player base.
Honestly I haven't played RS3 in months. I have kept up-to-date with progress but so far I see nothing worthwhile to return to. Shame as I've played RS for 20+ years.
At this point I am just confused like there is something wrong because even in 2019 which was basically a dead year for a lot of people first half of the year we knew that Archaeology is coming and later that year farming/herblore 120s came out so there was at least some copium/hopium to inhale while we waited for more content. Like this is not even about content being ready this is more about no communication about content. This with people being moved to OS just yells "we're fucked but we can't talk about it yet" and that's kinda scary. I am currently not playing, I think there is a lot of wrong with the game right now but I also do want it to do well and currently it is at 2019 numbers player wise during one of the better events released in years and that's just sad.
I just did alot of the old rellekka quests not to long ago and i kept thinking to my self wow these areas are dated lol. Theres so many areas of the game that need tlc.
If only Yak Track was tweaked or Hero Pass was fine tuned and people helped with that instead of hating everything that's not just membership. I don't even notice TH promos most the time. Yea I was disheartened by this post. I've been wanting a reason to pop back in game for some time now since necromancy and there's just nothing there. At this point I'm not expecting anything really attention catching until maybe runefest. And I find it really sad that osrs gets more quality updates of late and rs3 has had nothing particularly notable since necromancy, and no the combat rebalance doesn't really count in my opinion. I'm tentatively hedging my bets on runefest delivering something really neat, maybe even a revival of the player avatar rework (seriously it's dumb that rs3 avas are stuck in the stone age compared to recent npcs.) But if that doesn't happen. I'm concerned for the games future.
Im going to be trying osrs soon and be on and off rs3 doing some quest or achievements for the comp capes but gonna focus on osrs more i do want another way of training dung so i can finally work on 120 dung i refuse to go in there again its my least favorite skill but i really like the 120 cape
Either there is huge up planned in the background taking up all their time, or RS3 has a minimal team assigned to it. Personally, I think RS3 is in the Cash Cow cycle of the business.

This is total fumbling my management - Maybe you haven't ever worked in an environment like this (software) but this feels like a clear lack of direction, developers aren't being put on projects that amount to real content, or the projects they are put on get shelved due to shifting priorities.
Not really, the content that has come out recently has been terrible. Necromancy as a skill is good because it simplified combat and allowed players to try content they couldn’t have before. But necromancy as a combat skill was/is stupidly op and it basically took them adding a groundbreaking new combat style before they realized they should work on the original 3
Necro was less of an issue compared to how they just had one boss drop every t95 item under the sun. When full t95 necro, the most op style is under 2b, there’s zero incentive to use the other styles
Im finally training OSRS. Im maxing with necro. I want to try the combat update, especially when it should be rewarding with becro and learning rotations that i know i did it wright with acurate hits.
If this continues all the way until September, then at least we'll have Brighter Shores to look forward to since it's currently set to release in Q3, ironically right before Runefest. Going to be pretty funny when Brighter Shores releases without Jagex ever having announced their unannounced mmo project after so many years and stealing away quite a few rs3 devs for it.
Imagine if they properly modernised combat so you could add equipment to abilities allowing your character to automatically switch when that ability is used and then switched back before the next ability. Or made it so my character can be switched to continue or stop combat when i move allowing me to continue combat and properly move around. Or made defensives not take a gcd so i can use them while im attacking and still deal with mechanics. Or allowed me to make an eat command that i could customise to be a specific potion or potion equivalent, specific food and equivalent, and specific blubber or equivalent so i can hit one button to one tick eat all three. Or made soul split able to be active separately of overhead protect players so i can hit less buttons to achieve the same thing. Or fixed animation delays with enemies causing unreactable mechanics. Or aura changes, potion timer changes, etc. Or literally did anything meaningful other than copy pasta necro onto the other styles. Im glad they got addressed and buffed and modernised im not bashing the beta and the initial combat modernizations. But lets have meaningful changes allowing for less archaic gameplay and systems. Make them options. Those are just the most obvious and basic changes too xD
RS3 is a fun game, some people don't give a shit about not having constant new content because there's already 20+ years of content to consume. You're also watching an RS3 video, so clearly the game is living in your head rent free

Pretty sure that mobile/console mmo got scrapped they are working on different thing completely.
