  • Thirty years ago, the economic fortunes of the United States and Italy looked very similar. Today, however, the United States’ per-capita GDP is more than double Italy’s. So what happened, and what can the U.S. learn from Italy’s struggles? In this free webinar, economist Nicola Persico offers up his home country, Italy, as a cautionary tale for the United States. He argues that demographic changes, debt, and overregulation have led to low growth-and could do the same in America if the country doesn’t make smart policy decisions going forward.
Nicola Persico is the John L. and Helen Kellogg Professor of Managerial Economics & Decision Sciences at Kellogg. He has received numerous honors and fellowships, including several NSF grants, and has published widely in the areas of political economy, law and economics, and labor economics. Persico was born and raised in Italy.
