This one little microscopic organism has wreaked havoc on my health and my life for years and it is my moral obligation to share with you one step you might be able to help prevent a similar situation.
Mold.
Let’s talk about mold.
They are tiny particles that live basically everywhere.
They are in every home to varying degrees, some people are more sensitive to the spores than others.
But if gone unchecked, they can have serious consequences on your health.
Luckily there are things you can do to prevent mold from being a problem in your life.
1) Get your house checked
2) If there is water damage, remove the wall or carpet or any damaged materials
3) Live in a dryer climate
4) Spend lots of time outside
5) And last but not least get an air purifier… especially for your bedroom

I don’t understand the iodine thing
You can turn off the "plasmawave" feature on the Winix 5500-2 Air Purifier. Unfortunately, you have to turn it off every time that you turn the device on. This would not be an issue for someone who intends to keep the air purifier on 24/7... barring a power outage. This filter has the same LED display problem that you mention for the Coway, but electrical tape is the universal cure for LED light pollution.
Why get an air purifier and then not clean it for a year wtf?

I'm having issues with my coways. Have 2 mightys and a 400s. Problem is when cooking they absorb the smell but then it coats the HEPA filter. Then that's all you can smell coming out the clean air side. It's a weaker version of the cooking smell but then that floods the room. It's really noticable if you move the unit from the kitchen to bedroom. I had to replace my filters that were 2 days old. I don't know the point of the purifier if any smells will just coat the filter then still come out the other side. Sucks I have about 1000 in air purifiers that don't do much
Odors will mostly be in the carbon layer. I dunno what the reviewer is talking about, it's actually all in the manual, you can look into how to clean carbon filters online or find appropriate sheets to cut cheaper replacements, etc... I know replacing the HEPA unit is not cost effective.
You are supposed to clean the pre-filter every 2 weeks of regular use, and the carbon filter should be changed at least every 4 months or until they are saturated.
My winix, I change the carbon filter every 3 months... cleaning a filter every 2 weeks sounds horrible
@@scottr7683 you just vacuum the PRE filter or you can hose it down outside real quick. It’s very easy.
If you don’t clean the pre filter on ANY air purifier frequently, the filter becomes increasingly ineffective bc the air flow is reduced by the dust and hair on the prefilter

My current HEPA filter, winix 5300 (first gen, it's old), uses the carbon filter as a prefilter, and I just tightly roll it up every 3 months and throw it out. Doing it this way means I don't throw dust into the air.
@@Mod0308 My issue was the "every 2 weeks" seems unreasonably common for prefilter cleaning
My winix, if I clean it every 3 months, it's fine. There is reasonable airflow through it even after 3 months of dust.
Maybe I'm different, but I tend to at least glance at the manual. Page 11 tells you how to turn off the air quality light. I see you aren't cleaning the pre-filter... ever. It's going to work harder (louder) on auto, or perform worse on fan speed 1. Lastly, when you change the HEPA you should also clean your air quality sensor (and consider adjusting its sensitivity to your environment).

I have this in my asthmatic daughter's bedroom and just cleaned for the first time. I think its really easy to clean, and the girls like the white noise while they sleep. I'm going to try 3rd party filters (still true hepa) to save a few bucks.

BTW, don't believe UA-cam when they tell you you need to "hand gesticulate", it was helpful when YT was new and growing but everyone knows now... Does the light change to indicate how bad or good the air quality is? Mine is a constant blue and at the beginning of using this I know I didn't have good air quality and it's been blue entire time. I wish it would just said words like bad good etc

You can turn off the larger air quality light by holding down the ionizer button for 3 seconds. Ps: Ionizers should be safe as long as it complies with the federal ozone emissions limit and is ARB certified

I have the Winix 5500-2 and I love it. It’s up to par with the Coway and it has a pellet based carbon filter. I would also say that with its Plasmawave feature it is a better ionizer that doesn’t produce any ozone
Have you ever had a problem when you plug it back in? Mine won’t turn on any more the lights flash and makes a noise then I can’t turn it on, any help ? Thanks
The pre filter,can we open and clean it before a year? That seems like an insanely long time before we clean it

Oh yea? I read the button under ionizer that says "(LIGHT 3 sec)" -- so I held that button for 3 seconds and, ta-da... no light.

Is it supposed to come with rubber feet? I just unboxed mine, and I don't see anything on the bottom that would allow it to grip to a smooth floor surface.
I believe the filter reset lights come on when the filter(s) need replacing. Do yours always stay on? Mine out of the box have been off.
Is this quieter than the Winix 5500 on its lower setting with a better cfm

If you press and hold the “IONIZER” button for 3 seconds, the bright color changing AIR QUALITY light will turn off. You wont need duct tape
