Many of these musicians (the horn section) are no longer with Leonid & Friends. However like all top shelf groups they continue to have other artists step up and producing fantastic music. The lead singer Serge Tiagniryadno, is Ukrainian and sadly got caught up in that conflict and is not able to sing with the group. Let's keep Serge in thought and prayer.
God Bless Serge and his Countrymen. Let's hope Serge will return one day. God bless the rest of Leonid and friends. It WAS Terry Kath who played on the original. Back in 2019 during their first visit to the US, Terry's daughter Michelle met them in Los Angeles and brought Terry's guitar with her to show to Sergey (the guitarist in this video). He was moved to tears.
Danny Seraphine has both met and played with them, as well as one of the other early Chicago members. I can't remember off the top of my head! Just this last tour one of the members of EWF came to their show in Vegas. They of course went to see them as well. IGOR JAVAD-ZADE is one of the BEST drummers in the World! He can do almost any style and his solos, when you come to their concerts, are AWESOME! GO IGOR!!
This was the song that instantly made me a Leonid & Friends follower. Every aspect of this song is true to the original. Serge's vocals, the guitarist's solo, the tight horns...Igor is a beast on drums! Leonid pulls together top musicians and vocalists for every song he produces. GENIUS!
I think the most amazing thing about this is that Leonid (the bass player) couldn't get his hands on the original sheet music and arrangement for this song, so he sat down with a recording and transposed the entire song by hand (and ear). They are a mix of Russian and Ukrainian musicians.
Igor for years has been considered the best drummer in Russia. I know you are aware that this guitar player, Sergey Kashirin, is no longer with the band. But he's doing quite well. I communicate regularly with his wife. 3 kids under the age of 8 requires him to be home more that touring would allow!
That Igor can handle the various genres and styles if the music they perform us testimony to his great talent. I know he is now studying English, but enliven eithiut that I would want to take him out for his favorite adult beverage. He is such a cool cat! ❤️
Please relay to Sergey that his L&F fans will always appreciate his contribution. Without him, I can't imagine L&F attaining their early successes. He is just phenomenal!
I first heard this, I could close my eye and nope, could not tell you the difference w/this and classic era Chicago, vocals are so close but the musicianship is spot-on; Terry Kath is not an easy guitarist to do justice, this cat is pure fire.
This song was my first introduction to Leonid and Friends back in 2019. Total amazement that takes us baby boomers right back to the 70s. Total perfection. I'll see them for the 5th time this fall!.
I had the honor of sitting in with them on vocals last June in NYC (I was previously one of their tour photographers back in 2019). I can tell you they are GENUINELY amazing on and off the stage. A real family that loves each other and loves this country. The lineup has changed since they made this video, but the entire band is a wonderful group of people. So glad you covered this.
@@TheoSmith249 very much so. It’s one thing to be as talented as they are, but to be humble, kind and giving as well is a testimonial to the sort of humans L&F are. (BTW, if you do a search for my name plus Leonid & Friends, you’ll see the clip on YT)

Hey J. What i think is very impressive is how this group can pick vocalist within their own group that sound exactly like the original artists voice amazing
I was living in Italy on an expatriate assignment, when I heard an Italian rock band playing 25 or 6 to 4. I instantly called up UA-cam on my phone to listen to Chicago’s original version for comparison, but saw this link for this band called Leonid & Friends. I listened to THEIR version and was blown away. This was 2016/2017, and I have been a huge fan of them since, having seen them live twice, as well.
You are in for a treat!!! This is the L&R we all fell in love with 6 years ago! So glad you're getting into the original band too. Make Me Smile...Question 67 68 - BEGINNINGS! Oh and I'm a Man! The newer members are amazing as well and have allowed the band to bring in so much music. Fantasy will rock your world as well. Looking forward to tomorrow's reaction!
So glad you did one of the early ones! That guitarist left the group a couple of years ago but he sings lead on their cover of Beginnings by Chicago. Sounds just like Robert Lamm. I’m also amazed that they can replace all the people who have left and take advantage of the strengths of their newer members.
I saw a quote a while back from some guy who had worked extensively with Chicago over the years (I can't remember his role). He said that Leonid & Friends sound more like Chicago than Chicago. Also, in case you're not already aware, Leonid (on bass) transcribed all of these parts by ear, because there were no published charts available for this stuff.
Not entirely true. I was with a band doing Chicago and BS&T covers in Miami in 1970. We had copies of the original arrangements. I did NOT ask where our producer got them.
I'm an old horn player, and we all know drummers are pretty much the black sheep of musicians. I think we all snap to the fact, within just a few measures, ....damn, that drummer is good. Hello. I am a huge fan of L & F. I have been following them here on YT as well as FB. They have successfully toured the U.S. over the past few years. I recommend their covers of "September" & "Spinning Wheel". I enjoyed your delivery & no pause commentary.
A friend of mine summed it up best when he heard this " Stevie Wonder would not know this wasn't Chicago!" I have to say one of the tightest covers I have heard, it was Terry that did the og guitar
Nothing better than their 1st LP titled "Chicago Transit Authority"... Such a creative group of songs and I LOVED that they had a full horn section to accomodate their craft their music...They meshed the rock, metal, pop influences and it was the PERFECT MARRIAGE...The sound was like nothing playing in that era...And I loved the concept for their album covers; my favorite was a slab of chocolate with "Chicago" (like Hershey's). They introduced a horn section that was rare, but it was what made them so unique! Wow! Just wow! That’s the best Chicago cover I have ever heard, and I’m OLD…I’ve heard a lot! Excellent musicians. Mind blowing when you add on that English isn’t their first language. Bravo 👏🏻
I'm 72 years old, and I remember the CHICAGO TRANSIT AUTHORITY album when it first came out. My go to radio station was WBCN in Boston. They had the best music, the best DJs..., everything was just brand new then, it was a constant thrill. Of course I was pretty much brand new too, so there's that... These guys give me an appreciation for what Chicago was doing back then . I had purchased CTA the minute it was available in the stores, as well as Chicago Two when it came out. There was just so much going on then that while I loved the music, it was hard to grasp what they were doing. Watching Leonid and Friends recreates this and really takes me back, but more than anything it lets me see and know just what an incredible thing I was hearing then. I wish there was some video of the original recording sessions, that would be really cool...
Like you sir, I'm a child of that era as well. CTA, later just Chicago was one of the first three 8 track tapes I saved up to buy and was played until it wouldn't track anymore. I know there is an opinion that hard rock bands didn't have horn sections but I'd put up Chicago against any other band of that era. Terry Kath was a superb guitar player, arguably the best although unheralded amongst the guitar gods of that day. It would have been amazing to see what he may have continued to offer if he had just lived longer. Jimi Hendrix allegedly stated that Kath was the best player he ever knew.
Another great dissertation. Thanks so much. Leonid and friends should not be considered a 'cover' band anymore. They are bringing classics to the forefront. Do we consider professional classical musicians performing Bach for example as cover bands?!
Absolutely outstanding!! Leonid & Friends are so tight in everything they do and are also awesome Live! Definitely go out of your way to go see them! Terry Kath was the best, gone way too soon….Would love to see you react to my favorite Chicago song, “Introduction.” They absolutely nail that as you can imagine!

Jeff, new subscriber here. I've been following Leonoid & Friends since the beginning. I've been a live gigging musician for 52 years now playing in covers bands. I hear everything going on and with this group, I hear perfection not just covering a song, but re-creating it faithful to the original but with a much better mix. Believe it or not, there's another group out there that does the same thing in re-creating the original with emphasis on note for note replication and excellent sound. The name of the band is Lexington Lab Band . They do Boston, Steely Dan, Heart and many others to perfection! My suggestion for you would be to do a video on their cover of 'Foreplay/Longtime' by Boston. Spot-on in every way! Next, would be their cover of Barracuda and or Magic Man by Heart. Spotless!
I played this song alongside the original by Chicago. Aside from the slight variation in the voice (accent), the rest of the song was identical to the original.
The singer won a song contest from Leonid to pick someone that sounded like Cetera. He is from Ukraine and after the war, he had left the group Sad but he still makes videos on UA-cam.
This does remind of the Chicago Transit Authority when they were fresh. Don't get me wrong i still love and see them with EWF and solo but this Group has that Fire..like Chicago b4 they had the ducats..❤️.❤❤
I started in feeling somewhat doubtful knowing the difficulty it would take to reproduce this song. My doubts were soon replaced with astonishment. Gripping rendition of this Chicage classic.

Spot on! These guys are great!
Spotless!
I’d like to hear them as well! 👏👏👏
I played this song alongside the original by Chicago. Aside from the slight variation in the voice (accent), the rest of the song was identical to the original.
THE PROFECIONAL COVER
awesomeness
...glad you found them ...fantastic!
The singer won a song contest from Leonid to pick someone that sounded like Cetera. He is from Ukraine and after the war, he had left the group Sad but he still makes videos on UA-cam.
Too bad…wars ruin everything 😩
Terry Kath reincarnated.
If you do Fantasy, you may as well also do In the Stone. And there are a lot more for you to draw from in the future.
Wow!
I actually like this more than the original.
Same here 😂🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉
This does remind of the Chicago Transit Authority when they were fresh.
I don't think that guitar solo can be improved upon.
It can never be improved upon, but that young man nailed it.
100% agree. It's a perfect guitar solo.
if you liked Chicago try earth wind and fire
great. I hope he is ok
