My guess is they were so focused on the person crossing the street that they had a brain fart and forgot it was traffic light controlled as opposed to a regular zebra crossing.
Here in USA, many people run the red lights when there is a train crossing at an intersection when the bars go up, even if the light is still red hahah
I would say most of drivers 80% on the road if they do the test again would fail it. There are a lot drivers dont stick to the role after they passed the test.
I do that a lot in Cyprus, and some pedestrians forget to press the button. There are also times when teenagers press the button, just to stop the cars and piss off the drivers. However, I always reduce speed when I see that someone is approaching the crossing, and in case is still red and someone else is about to cross, I give them way. Of course, even when I start with red, most of the times I end up leaving with the blinking orange.

This actually happened to me once. When a new pedestrian rule was added to highway code, I was so concerned about this after reading it and so focused on pedestrians on that day that when pedestrians crossed, I forget that I am standing on a red light. Thankfully it was quite road.
They were already over the dark line in the road where the dashcam driver stopped, so probably that they were past the line and maybe could go through, but they weren't obstructing the crossing really so (but I don't think that dark line actually was the line as the van stopped right on the edge of the crossing...)

Today I jumped a red traffic light….i was crossing the light near school it was green changed to amber suddenly changed to red got panicked and just drive through red light.And the car behind flashed their lights.I got really panicked and didn’t stopped.Iamreally scared now did I caused any accident and went back after 10 mins to see anything happened.Everything seems fine .Iam really scared now is police is coming for me…My BP increased can’t eat feeling guilty and what to do…should I call a the police and report myself just passed my driving test last week
The driver behind you was more than likely warning you about the red light. See this as a wake up call to be more vigilant around traffic lights and schools.
My guess would be that they were expecting the crossing type where the amber light flashes, and you can the proceed if the crossing is clear. This crossing is the where you don't get the flashing amber, so need to wait until green. Remembering to check is clear once can go..... Check those mirrors!!!

If there are no cameras on the lights and no police behind you, then nothing will happen. Put this down to inexperience and see it as a learning point.
@@OviAS. its nt traffic signal, red light where u r giving way to other vehicles..its a pedestrian crossing signal..if no pedestrian is crossing then stopping is pointless! Same like zebra crossing
