I waited for this body style to finally show up and spent quite a bit of time test driving this vehicle and went with a 2020 instead. Cost was a major player in this decision but the excessive use of worthless technology that has no place or purpose in a car was over the top expensive BS. Even the base model 21’ has many of the gizmos I have no use for. The deal breaker was the auto start stop along with the push button transmission setup. I’m quite happy with my 2020 suburban and the additional 15k in my pocket.
The E-LSD that's already available in the Yukon needs to be made available in the Tahoe and Suburban. The mechanical one in the Chevy trucks takes too long to engage.
Good video! I’m glad to see the vehicles tested. I previously owned a 2001 Suburban and it did not have any of the modern traction capabilities. Just 4wd hi and lo. It was good and I never got stuck anywhere. So these newer modern vehicles have to be that much better. Though I wonder if they’ve got heavier. They look it. I will say I really do not like 22 inch wheels. I would prefer 18” wheels on this. And from this video and another Ive seen I would probably much prefer the Yukon AT4. I think the ELSD works better than the G80 locker on the Chevy.
Yea, I had a 00 suburban 4x4 with the rear locker and it would do better than other suvs and pickups in 4wd while in 2wd with just the rear auto locker .
They want you to think newer is better, that’s what the marketing department tells you. But really, they do everything they can to cut cost out of their parts, replacing mechanical lockers with electronic imposters, outsourcing to foreign suppliers, and the thing that suffers is performance, quality, capability, reliability and longevity. After all, the sooner it breaks the sooner you need to buy a new one. I really think “they don’t make them the way they used to.”
The traction control behaviour is about what I would expect. 4Auto is nothing special, it just controls the coupling in the transfer case that sends power to the front axle, nothing more. Most of these programs for 4Auto are pretty sophisticated and would be acting as if in 4hi in a situation like that. The reason it looked worse in 4lo is that it turned off traction control it seems.
They can be had for 7-8% off already, if you are willing to travel and aren't picky on color. I'm considering the 3.0 Duramax on these. As a buy and hold type, I'm concerned about the durability of the V-8s with the cylinder deactivation.
I would never pay that much. Every time I see one going down the road, I think there goes $1100-1200 a month not including insurance. A 7 year payment might bring it down, but I don't want to roll that bad. I rather get an used 2015 ESV Escalade for 35k.

Same thing happened a couple years ago when I test drove a 2006 range rover full size supercharged, raised and lowered ut a couple times then said overheated and unavailable
Are you sure the air suspension wasn't just locked because you were in 4 LO and raised the car to its max ground clearance setting? Once at max, the air suspension has no travel (except down) to perform the "levelling" feature.
Per the air suspension issue at the end... never ever had such an issue on Jeep WK2 trailhawk, it always goes up and down and I've beat that thing up on trails a lot more than what you showed.
I am by no means an ergonomics expert but I think I can understand the transmission shifter logic. Park, Neutral are a push motion….seems natural. Reverse and Drive require some reasonable thought and a deliberate finger motion to engage. Yes I prefer column or floor shifters but electronic shifters are pretty much the wave of the future. I do like that they placed the shifter on the dashboard instead of the center console. Keeping away from console should pretty much eliminate all risk of shifter damage….ie…..(liquid spillage and short out).

Has anyone been able to confirm the differential - is it a G80? The only reason I ask is that i have seen conflicting articles. MotorTrend published that for 2021 Chevy dropped the Eaton G80 in the Tahoe and went with a new mechanical LSD built by American Axle. Then TFLoffroad tested it and thought theirs didn't have a LSD at all LOL. This performs similar to the Silverado Trail Boss off road video on TFLoffroad... the tires have to really start spinning before the mechanical LSD will engage, which can be problematic in some situations.
Seems the trucks/ SUV's "Auto 4WD" is now going to a clutch style transfer case. I consider that a Heavy Duty AWD system since there are more disc/ plates to give a harder grab vs something like a Subaru's transfer clutch system. Considering today's buyers, the most those two SUVs will see is a Dirt road. If it was anything like the Toyota Sequoia, it'd be a decent system. That runs a torsen center differential, which is lockable & you and run RWD only if you choose to.
The clutch-based full-time 4WD systems have been around for years and haven proven to be reliable and stout. The Magna MP3200-series transfer cases used in GM vehicles is the same system Jeep has used in the no-2WD-mode-available Jeep Grand Cherokee for years. The only caveat with these systems is using Auto 4WD in the sand where there's constant slippage, it will lead to an overtemp condition in the t-case and the computer will disable 4WD and then you're stuck. Running in 4H or 4L instead of 4Auto will prevent that from happening since the clutch ends up fully locked with no slippage. That said, if anyone is unlucky enough to own a Ram 1500 with the BW 44-44 transfer case just plan on not using it off-road very often as even in 4L there have been problems with it not fully locking and also when you turn the engine off it actually disengages the clutch and you'll be in 2WD, even in 4L. The Magna transfer cases stay mechanically fully locked in 4H and 4L so this isn't a problem.
The ancient pushrod gas motors use fuel like it’s 1955 and gas is 25 cents a gallon. The 2.7t gas engine should be standard on lower trims. The Duramax should be standard on higher trims and optional on lower trims.
I still wonder why 4low would have a worse result that 4high and auto mode oh and I know you did a review on the chevy traverse but is it possible to get another one and take it on the course because I'm considering getting one and would like to know how the awd performance is
When in 4L the traction and stability control are disabled and with vehicles such as these that rely on those electronic systems to provide better control you can really tell how effective they are when they get disabled in 4L. This is why a proper locker makes such a big difference.
Yep ... traction disengagement ... in that scenario is not at all what you want Point that thing straight up a hill of good angle ... and watch 4hi fail miserably and low range excel ... gotta know what modes are good for what ... 4lo is not king of all things

Correct me if I am wrong, it is my understanding that the Tahoe does not have a center diff, so no dry pavement tolerant 4WD system. The Auto is not full time four wheel drive but rather it engages the front wheels as needed. But with no center differential you will get will skid if the transfer case engages the front wheels and you're turning on dry pavement
Z71 has the same suspension. The only difference is that it has better AT tires with more sidewall, a different grille for better approach angle, and a couple of skid plates. The new IRS will take away some of its off road ability that the former solid rear axle was capable of, but I don't think anyone buys a Tahoe to do any serious off roading anyway. i wish they had tested the Z71 as well, the AT tires on Z71 would have been better in this scenario.

To add to my comment below about the lack of reliability with General Motors and American cars in general, have you ever thought about doing a video that gives an explanation of why American brands are so unreliable compared to Asian counterparts? Your videos are exceptional and very detailed and I am seeing this type of video here and there on automotive review channels that explain this phenomenon.
I feel this is a misnomer. My last Asian car was a Mazda Rx-8 with a rotary engine. While it was a super fun car to drive, there were massive reliability issues with the engine not to mention the horrible gas mileage. I am now on my 4th Chevy vehicle since then with over 300,000 miles combined. I have not had a single major issue with any of them. While there can be issues with any vehicle, if you look at the latest automotive reliability surveys, GM actually does quite well.
@@mripple I agree the rotary engine was bad and discontinued for a reason, but that’s only 1 example from an otherwise superior manufacturer of reliable automobiles. And I’m always surprised to see Chevy trucks with Toyota-like high mileage, but I suspect their owners were meticulous with maintenance and probably didn’t “abuse” them beyond intended design. And many of those exceptions were fleet-maintained vehicles as well. I hope GM can maintain the type of upward trajectory that Asian manufacturers have maintained for many years. Unfortunately, it’s very long history of poor management and engineering mean it’s going to take some serious changes become a serious competitor in the market. The math doesn’t care either way.

You did a fabulous job reviewing this vehicle. I learned quite a bit andvI might consider a tahoe the next time I purchase a new vehicle.
I love taho... It's really laxury car.. And comfort, and elegant
Although they're both the same, the GMC gets my vote because I like the front better especially that big grill.
Always good reviews.
2:04 - I think you should always tell people your height, i.e. for comparison...
(this might be their first time watching).
Love your videos truly enjoy watching your revuew 👍👍👍😊
I've been driving my '21 Tahoe Z71 from St. George, UT to Houston, TX three times/year. It's a highway cruise liner.
If I was rich, this would be my car.
I think it locks the ride height in 4 low mode.
Americans really stepped up their game, RESPECT !!!
It is a nice rig. But the 81k throws me off.
But this thing is beautiful. The 6.2 is a beast.
And yet people will buy it and go into debt, just to “impress” someone.
@@garymehorczyk1017 Then you must not be American!
The best feature to add for off road is "anti-scratch". I got Sierra Pin Stripes on all my vehicles.
Excellent video and review as usual. Well done Rayn !!!! 🏁
The best test! very good, congrats!
The Yukon, Tahoe, and Escalade has been the same vehicle for years and built on the same platform. Only thing that differentiate them is the interior.
That’s DEFINITELY not true💀. Their looks have definitely changed over the years.
@@tjhouston1280 Dude, The Tahoe, Yukon, and Escalade are still the same truck with the same T1 platform. The last Gen was on the K2XX platform. Same truck, same platform, and made in the same Arlington Factory. Looks sure they are difference, character not so different.
@@LeshVAuto I read up on these cars dude. So I know, it’s definitely changed plateform design for the last 3 generations. In fact, each generation has had an upgraded plateform. The plateforms are very similar but each one is better than the other. The only thing that has stayed the same is the lettering of each plateform which is GMT which is the designated name for all GM built body on frame vehicles. You’re right that it’s the same plateform, but in a sense it’s not. You have the current, T1XX, K2XX, 921/922, 800, and 420/430 that was on the first tahoe.
@@LeshVAuto their Great!
The Chevrolet Tahoe and Suburban, the GMC Yukon and Yukon XL, and the Cadillac Escalade account for 50% of all large SUV sales in the US. GM makes 340,000 of them every year and exports about 80,000 to 31 countries. They’re made in GM’s plant in Arlington, Texas, which is said to be the most profitable assembly plant in the world. We estimate they generate $20 billion in revenue for GM and about $4 billion in profits. Autoline Daily.
I have had vehicles that had both a wireless charger for my phone and CarPlay but the system just feels either broken or incomplete if the CarPlay is not wireless. There was absolutely no point in using the wireless charger if my phone had to be connected anyway to run the infotainment. I am happy to see this function make its way into more and more mainstream cars. Hopefully as more automakers implement wireless CarPlay, it will become less janky.
Kind of surprised how the Tahoe performed on that hill. The Subarus had a mostly easier time. Even in comparison to other vehicles tested recently with 20"= wheels, the Tahoe under performed. Also, the the Tahoe seemed to put way too much power into the wheel with no traction.
The Subaru performed at it's limit. Hammer the throttle in. Subaru and that CVT will scream
Subaru is the worst car ever created 😂
Thank you, I always watch your videos before choosing the car!!!
Looked at one at the dealership. While it does look more upscale, it doesn’t feel so upscale when you touch the surfaces. Lots o’ flimsy plastics in it. The glovebox door feels like it could break if you’re not careful with it.
Simply the best large SUVs on the market. These are also the premium luxury vehicles they are meant to be. There is simply nothing else in segment as good.
Lexus eats these things up. GM builds cheap junky boxes. Lexus is the real luxury brand.
70k and no rear vented seats. The palisade is 20k less and offers rear cooled seats
Palisade is a minivan, not in the same class as this
@@fordrac1ng81 The Hyundai palisade it's not a minivan.its a midsize suv and the tahoe is a large suv. But the chevy does not offer rear cooled seats and its price tag is 70k and the palisade which is 20k less offers that option.
It’s the power... 420 hp n 460 torque is the difference! It’s the power that I wanted.
@@aliqureshi6534 you are not even close to being correct.. Mini van Hyundai " Girl Truck " hence vented seats.. Money in Tahoe off roading towing .. power when loaded.. Man truck... stick with your girl truck since that's what you understand..
I like your video very well explained everything
I feel so sorry for General Motors. Ever since the great recession I just can’t stop calling them government motors. There is absolutely no way I would ever buy any kind of GM product. It looks nice but for that price tag oh my goodness what a mistake that would be! The lack of consistent reliability of American brands scares the living daylights out of me. I would pay that much for a Toyota product regardless of the lack of a refresh on many of their models. People can complain all they want about that issue with Toyota, but they know there is no need to fix what is not broken and reliable.
these r secret service vehicles lol .
These are huge vehicles full of tech and leather, compare Apples to apples, like to Ford Expedition and Lincoln Navigator or to Land Cruiser, not to anything else please.
@@kadimsilahtar there made for the government or the Kardashians simple very few normal income people can afford these ..
should've had a tougher test on the awd system!!!
I fully agree with Bee Cars, the Chevy's reliability concerns me, but the look is so good!
Best cars Reviewer ever
Hi, thank you for the review.
I had an experience with a Rengrover sport 2008, when I tried to raise the car like the third time it was overheated! and available, but it was summertime.
The two other cars that I had never faced an issue with the suspensions were Lexus LX, and Mercedes.
You forgot to mention the new rear suspension
Per the air suspension issue at the end... never ever had such an issue on Jeep WK2 trailhawk, it always goes up and down and I've beat that thing up on trails a lot more than what you showed.
It locks the suspension when in 4 low and off-road mode. You can't level the ride height when the bags are maxed out
Very good and detail review. Thank you much!
The "auto" 4WD is 2WD, no? If wheel slip is detected, only then will the transfer case engage making it 4WD. Is this how it works?
I am by no means an ergonomics expert but I think I can understand the transmission shifter logic. Park, Neutral are a push motion….seems natural. Reverse and Drive require some reasonable thought and a deliberate finger motion to engage. Yes I prefer column or floor shifters but electronic shifters are pretty much the wave of the future. I do like that they placed the shifter on the dashboard instead of the center console. Keeping away from console should pretty much eliminate all risk of shifter damage….ie…..(liquid spillage and short out).
For that kind of money I would expect a better 4x4 system. I do like think the look of the brown seats and wood trim look nice though.
Love the video, like the truck, hate the price.
$81,000.00 that's it, oh I'll take three.
Take three and be poor unless you are rich
@@williamsnwagwu2228 I've got news for you, if I took one I'd be poor. These are reviews for people that make over 150k a year, not for us working class shleps.

Tahoe vs Yukon similarities is not news. It's been that way for 30 years.

0:17 where the link truck sand payload test ? Can you help me ? I can't find.
Chevrolet Taheo❤👑
Has anyone been able to confirm the differential - is it a G80? The only reason I ask is that i have seen conflicting articles. MotorTrend published that for 2021 Chevy dropped the Eaton G80 in the Tahoe and went with a new mechanical LSD built by American Axle. Then TFLoffroad tested it and thought theirs didn't have a LSD at all LOL. This performs similar to the Silverado Trail Boss off road video on TFLoffroad... the tires have to really start spinning before the mechanical LSD will engage, which can be problematic in some situations.
Diesel test drive soon?
You’re gonna want that duramax
The ancient pushrod gas motors use fuel like it’s 1955 and gas is 25 cents a gallon. The 2.7t gas engine should be standard on lower trims. The Duramax should be standard on higher trims and optional on lower trims.
The pricing is kind of ridiculous. How much would you want to spend on a car which will depreciate to almost 0 in ten years?
The pricing is ridiculous but Tahoe’s actually do hold there value pretty well
Buy Range rover or BMW Audi. They be worthless
Yep ... traction disengagement ... in that scenario is not at all what you want
Point that thing straight up a hill of good angle ... and watch 4hi fail miserably and low range excel ... gotta know what modes are good for what ... 4lo is not king of all things
Really nice review
Do the 2021 Armada next please

Kia Hyundai and Toyota’s all come with adaptive and lane centering systems. That’s the only reason I’m not going for Chevy or GMC
But i still choose a trd pro 4runner, cheaper, waaay more reliable and it will outlast that POS and it's a true off road legend, what you show here is for mall moms.

Correct me if I am wrong, it is my understanding that the Tahoe does not have a center diff, so no dry pavement tolerant 4WD system. The Auto is not full time four wheel drive but rather it engages the front wheels as needed. But with no center differential you will get will skid if the transfer case engages the front wheels and you're turning on dry pavement
best van silverado sister and very beautiful
The best feature to add for off road is "anti-scratch".
Your 3rd test was with the 2nd row pushed all the way back, if you can fit then it can only get better by sliding the second row forwards.
Great review!
I just love your content........
19 miles on one gallon wow bro that is cool
That rear suspension arms hang ridiculously low, can be seen even from the front of vehicle. Next time may be you should try the more appropriate Z71?
Z71 has the same suspension. The only difference is that it has better AT tires with more sidewall, a different grille for better approach angle, and a couple of skid plates. The new IRS will take away some of its off road ability that the former solid rear axle was capable of, but I don't think anyone buys a Tahoe to do any serious off roading anyway. i wish they had tested the Z71 as well, the AT tires on Z71 would have been better in this scenario.
Watched it, for the sake of watching my friend Ryan Douthit. Nothing more, nothing less lol
American transportation, not my thing.. But, I give it to you Ryan, for staying Neutral.. Meaning, you Sir, are awesome at what you do..

Not to be ignorant, but the option for messaging seats for driver and passenger are available on the Tahoe.
Leveling unavailable....were you in 4-low? The vehicle only goes into the fourth raised level if it is in 4low...perhaps the leveling system unlocked when you took it out of 4low?
Its cost is aed300k which is the cost of a reasonable studio in UAE.
Did you lower your tire pressure on the climbs at all?
like them ,but no more G80 solid rear axle , not a fan of indpendent rear suspension, now one has to do a rear wheel alinement?
I rented a Chevy Colorado, I believe that had 4 hi (no 4 low) and auto. Like this truck the tires were horrible. I tried the 4 auto when we had 4-6" of snow. I didn't like it at all. Between the engagement, turning, and available traction , it was horrible. I was always a leave it in 2wd until available traction has been defeated, kind of cat. Then, and only then do you swap into 4 wdh. So, I'll probably never use 4wd auto. I'll use 2wd until I need 4wdh. /And then use that until I need 4wdl. I hope everyone is content.
