Colin, Thank you so much for this video. Not talking so much combined with showing what you were doing gets a big thumbs up! Really best tutorial I've seen in a long time.
An old drone pilot from the Dragonflyer days I am new to the DJIP3A. I was really apprehensive to go to F mode but after watching Colin's video I decided to have a go at it. I wanted to try POI. I had the altitude set right but was under minimum for radius. After I figured that out off I went. I was excited to see the orbit work so well. This video was a great, great help to me to get more use out of my P3. Thanks! Ya hooooo!
In Waypoints Mode, under the "Head to:" selection, select "Free" instead of "Consistent with record" or "Consistent with route", and this will allow you to rotate the quad as you wish while it is flying the route.
This is a great explanation of how to use the IOCs. Thanks for this. My problem is the glare on my tablet. I see you dont seem to use sun shields and I wonder what you do to mitigate the glare problem.
Grate demonstration, thank you. CAN YOU PLEASE tell us how did you get that PERFECT horizon in the camera?! I am tired with my P3P. I did everything but still it does not have such a perfect horizon.
+photoshopCAFE yes it is tilted. I have done the calibration process to the gimbal and IMU more than 7 times. It get fixed for few minutes in the flight and then it goes back to the tilted horizon. The only thing I didn't try is to cool the drone in the refrigerator and then perform the calibration process again -- as other suggesting but I am not comfortable with this idea.... yet :)
The device has to have a GPS chip, IPads with cellular have GPS, as do all the IPhones and all android devices have GPS. The IPads are great with these as DJI uses Cupertino hardware to do all of their testing and setup in house vs android devices where they use them for supporting those devices not necessarily for their own procedures.
+YoungBlaze Of Chitown where about in Chitown? Grew up close to The city, it's a great city as long as your not poor and minority living in south side, then, not so much
thanks for the refresher course. I have the Phantom 3 standard, my controller is different than yours, only 1 antennae and different location for S1 and S2. But I should be able to adapt the tutorial to my unit.
Very good tutorial. I will try waypoints for sure, I shoot real estate photos mainly but can see the potential for movies for larger property using waypoints.
Excellent tutorial. DJI should have done this prior to the App update and release. I was totally lost yesterday when I downloaded the new features. Many thanks from the jungles of Honduras.
Very good tutorial. Really impressed. You are so lucky to have that weather. It is turning to Autumn here in Ireland and flight times are becoming rarer and rarer. Dodging between the showers. Roll on April!
Thanks for the demo. I'll definitely have to check out your training. The thing I like better about the Iris+ (and Solo I assume) is that it has a map that comes up to create your custom flights. With this one, it appears that you have to actually fly the route to set your waypoints.
you can freely rotate the phantom if you choose the free mode. Also if you get the dual gps blutooth addon can get follow me to use in non gps ipad, but must have the dual gps app running in background
"Consistent with record" will point the camera the same way it was pointing when the waypoints were originally recorded. "Consistent with route" will point the camera straight ahead as it flies each leg. "Free" allows you to point the camera wherever you want as it flies the route. My experience is that "Free" is usually the best option. Great job Colin!
Thank you, Colin! Excellent tutorial video of the new firmware upgrades. I just bought a P3 Pro and you have very much reinforced my purchase decision. I take delivery in the next week or so. My initial reading of the waypoints misinterpreted the P3 abilities but your video has enhanced my opinion of the upgrades. The "true to Route" option looks like it saves the waypoint feature for me. Great job. Much appreciated!
Awesome video! I'm very new to this game. This will help me fly my phantom 3 pro. If I need network on my iPad to do some of these, I could broadcast wifi from my iPhone, and still use the large screen iPad for the controller, right?
Great Tutorial!! Very clear and easy to follow. New Phantom 3 pro drone user here. I have just a few questions: 1. Regarding waypoint mode, after recording the flight path, upon initiating the flight should the drone auto pilot back to the exact location and altitude of the first waypoint? My expereinces with this have been inconsitent, I suspect that it's my error, or could it be related to battery strength? Not sure what I am doing wrong here. 2. Is there a way to pre program the gimble movements other than modifying the gimble speed with in the settings menu? For example... I was surveying a construction sight using waypoint mode. I created a direct path between waypoint 1 (set at 15 ft), and waypoint 2 (set at 98 ft). The goal was to have the camera angle slowly pan down as it approached 98 ft. Thank you for your time in advance.
Nice little review there. I haven't tried any of these even though within 3 weeks I've managed to both upgrade to the super long range Itlite Antenna mod, and void my warranty all in one fell swoop. Now that I got that warm/fuzzy that I've at least got a tweaked out low s/nR thick and solid connection I can start spreading my wings with these automated apps, maybe after I spread the gear apart with a retract kit as I find the ascetics much more pleasing and familiar without the ugly gear hanging down, yes even though I realize we can't pan the gimbal, the retract gear was $249 not that long ago and not even offered for the P3P, now it's $70
Hi. Awesome tutorial. But I'm still confused on the "waypoint" mode...other than tilting, can u still control the panning of the camera (in either "heading" mode)? Same question goes to other modes (follow me, course lock & home lock). Thanks in advance.
I'm still investigating if the follow-me works with iPad mini. If it doesn't I'll be a little mad since I bought the iPad mini because it was in the list of supported hardware.
+Darcy Whyte I think the iPad has to have a built in GPS for follow me. The Phantom has to know your location to follow you. I think only the 3g/LTE models have a GPS.
+John Samtak They listed the ipad I have in the compatible hardware. They shouldn't list it unless the controller has a gps... I'm a bit bummed out since I referred to the list of compatible hardware before buying a screen....
+Darcy Whyte I agree. They list devices that are compatible with the APP but do not mention that you need built-in GPS for some features, like Follow Me, to work
+John Samtak This is why we do our research before we buy...it helps to understand the technology and what you are purchasng, as it evolves so quickly. It does a lot of things that aren't listed, also...such as a handheld leaf blower, insect repellent, self defense tool and I have found it particularly helpful with pest control.
Just wanted to ask a more general question about "Go Home" feature. Does the drone come back to the base (even if it moved), or only to the original/fixed GPS point of departure? Is there anything in the settings/features, which would allow to instruct the drone to come to base. Hope it is understood where I am coming from with this question. I think that if you move while flying, you want the "home" to be you and (often) not the original take off point.
+Anatoly B If you have dynamic home point enabled, it will go back to wherever you are. otherwise it will be the point that it got sat lock, ie the green lights began flashing
2 days ago, I tried to have my Phantom 3S following me but it did shortly then it hovered with all red lights. I struggled to get it following me until the drone turned left then turned right and suddently flew away crashing into one of pine trees. I checked my drone to make sure there is no damage, especially a camera gimbal. Everything was good to go. I looked at a footage and noticed an electric bridge on a side of my drone above it. Does the electric bridge caused it interfered? Just wondering.
Colin, Finally a "Really Good Video" that explains how to with the DJI P3P and the new Applications it is capable of. DJI should take note and hire you to make their video's because they leave so much information out of their "supposed" training video's. I was totally unaware of switching from P to F on the switch and that is what controlled the apps or how to get into the apps. I also own a P3 Standard, so now will check to see if the switch on the Standard does the same. I like using the Standard for flight testing before using the Professional. Would much prefer crashing and burning the Standard than the Professional if given a choice. Keep up the EXCELLENT video's.
Great tutorial! Thank you very much for your time and for sharing. I just purchased the P3P and can't wait to get my hands on it. I am sure I will want to do some videos of my own and would like to include the tablet screen in my videos as you have done. Can you tell me how you captured the screen of your tablet?
+georgesjunglerc an app caller reflector. It's not reliable though, it works only about 1/3 of the time and that's after great struggle. Their tech support could offer a solution
Great tutorial! Can't wait to get out there and try them out. I've been bugging DJI about these apps and anxiously waiting. Now I can patrol my security post safely, and have a blast when not working!
hi just watching your video and came up with a idea for follow me and that is because your ipad is Wi-Fi only how about teathering it to your I phone or use your iPhone as a hotspot this way your ipad would have a wifi signal. let me know how you get on
the only sad thing is that follow me is not working with Inspire and i got a inspire 1 !! sometimes I find Phantom more useful and easier to use , plus its way cheaper and you never have to worry to crash it
+Deity Slayer I believe they didn't enable that feature on the Inspire, maybe for safety? A phantom can recover from a crash much better than an Inspire can.
Very good video..just a point..what's the point of having to fly to the way points in order to set them..you have just flown there..on the phantom 2 you could set them on the map..seems daft to have to fly to the way point. .but great video..cheers
+kevin sung Yep, this is the way it is for now. What is useful is to set the points and then tilt the camera manually while flying between the points, makes for some very smooth video you would struggle to shoot otherwise.
How do I set each waypoint? Do I tap on the screen itself to set each one? Also when I try to get POI to work I seem to get interference warnings every time. What's the answers?
under the way points mode. . there were 3 different flight characteristics with the last one being "FREE" would that allow you to turn the quadcopter as it's on its route instead of facing foward or panning?
I'm sure someone has told you by now but the reason the iPad didn't work for follow me is because it doesn't have a true GPS receiver like any cellular Apple product. You DONT NEED the cell, but those are the only ones that come with the reaL GPS, otherwise you need to buy an adapter for $100 for your non cell iPad version. Great video!
Hello, I have problem on the Dji phantom 3 Pro With last updated a day jai sake of loss reports, often applying Dji Go left and completely closed while the continuous command ordered we can not activate follow me if pert radio control signal return thank you for your help chief
Great video very helpful! I haven't flown yet just been practicing on the simulator but after watching this I do have two newbie questions for you (or anyone who can answer) 1.) There are 3 different controller flight options ( joystick controls) to pick from which one do you use/ prefer and why? You seem to fly this thing pretty easy so maybe you have this dialed in. 2. When you fly it further away from you do you use the camera on the drone/live video on the iPad to fly it or do you always fly it using line of sight? I know everyone always says only do line of site but it seems like maybe some of you professionals use the live feed/camera on the drone when it's going a bit further. What do you use to fly? Seems to me the further I get I loose what direction is forward and backwards. Sorry for all the noob questions.
+carlosjd23 I use the standard stick configuration. Mainly because you are going to get used to something, so I prefer to be ready to fly any of my other birds or someone else's the same way. No surprises. I always fly LOS, and then use the FPV to frame my shots for photo or video. So I'm flying LOS to set up my shot, but FPV while making a shot (video or photo)
So in follow me mode I should be able to sit as a passenger in my Jeep heading down a trail and have it follow me to capture travel footage correct? I will just have to manually land it so that it doesn't head back to the initial home point. (I do a lot of off roading, camping and shoot a lot of video for later editing)
+Michael Kirst That's right, just don't drive too fast, the Phantom has a max speed of 30mph also if its going really fast you can get props in the shot, so take it nice and slow and you will get some good shots.
Sorry for posting a question on one of your old videos Colin but it's the first one I've found of yours and about to go and view more. What are you using to record the DJI app...what you see on your iPad?
Love the video. When you were in the 2nd Waypoint mode did you think to try a yaw? In the first one I see that you tried (and it makes sense that it didn't work since the mode is to face the recorded directions). But the 2nd I think you got distracted by the battery warning and may not have tried....
How can I set auto repeat waypoints so it continues to move between all the points I set until I decide to exit? I have a entry model drone that fell on the roof of one of the town-houses here and I want to do surveillance over them with enough time to focus on the screen to see what the camera is showing
+photoshopCAFE yeah seen the whole video but it did one round of waypoints. There is no option to enable repetitive rounds of the saved waypoint automatically.
Very nice video good job and thanks I just purchase a new dji P3 pro and I want to learn all about it the only way is looking at others videos ones again thanks for sharing with us.
Hi there sir.. i just purchased a Phantom 3 Pro.. i choose this drone co'z im in a tight budget.. other drones like P4 or Mavic is still expensive for me.. but i just wanted to ask is the Phantom 3 Pro still reliable up to this date 2017? Any comment or opinion will be appreciated.. thank you..
Hello I heard there is a way in which you just point in the map where you want to send the drone, but I cannot find it in the app using a dji phantom 3 pro
Fantastic review! I couldn't even find the new modes on the new firmware....didn't realize you had to change the mode switch. This video made me confident to go out and use these
+Yiannis pavlis To make sure you have Version 1.3.2 aircraft and controller updates before updating to the latest V 1.4.0 or the controller won't work.
+photoshopCAFE Thanks! Getting ready to spend $8000 for Pix4D, so will have to put off that purchase for now. Do you know of any alternate ways to sync at a more affordable price? Thanks for getting back to me!
+Charles NE1 Adjust the gimbal wheel on the right front of your controller, if it doesn't have one, tilt the gimbal through the app. Also you can tap the C1 button on the left bottom of the controller
Colin, Thank you so much for this video. Not talking so much combined with showing what you were doing gets a big thumbs up! Really best tutorial I've seen in a long time.

finally a clear and concise video explaining the new features of the dji GO update.........cheers !
+Arrested Images Photography and Design thanks, stay tuned for my full-length Phantom 3 video coming soon!
will do...i enjoyed this video as it did an excellent job of explaining the GO update !
Very helpful! I'm curious to see if I can detach my iPhone on the follow me mode and have the drone still follow me not attached to the controller.
+Chris McCurdy Let us know how that works
+photoshopCAFE I detached my phone from the controller and unfortunately the drone didn't follow me.
+Chris McCurdy too bad. It was worth a try though :)
This is a great explanation of how to use the IOCs. Thanks for this. My problem is the glare on my tablet. I see you dont seem to use sun shields and I wonder what you do to mitigate the glare problem.
+Geoffrey Panek get the hoodman.com drone shade.I use it with my ipad mini... it's awesome

funny but they ship with Android Cords out the box lol
+YoungBlaze Of Chitown lmao, that is for the aircrafts connection for downloading flight data, don't confuse mini USB with "android" ......jeesus
+YoungBlaze Of Chitown where about in Chitown? Grew up close to The city, it's a great city as long as your not poor and minority living in south side, then, not so much
welp, thats pretty much me lol
hey, good job. I have watched several of your tutorials from the days of the Pv2plus. You always have such a relaxing tone of instruction. thanks,Jim
+Jim Gordon Thanks so much Jim
+photoshopCAFE I agree with Jim. Learning to fly with the P4.....Good job!
Really good calm demo Colin. Hope I'm as calm as you on my first automated flights.
thanks for the refresher course.
+Trevor Heath yes, you can use waypoints for amazing real estate shots
Can you adjust the angle of the gimbal in the waypoints mode using the 'consistent with record' option?
Thanks for making the video showing the special flight features of the phantom 3. I have yet to practice with these modes.
Excellent tutorial. DJI should have done this prior to the App update and release. I was totally lost yesterday when I downloaded the new features. Many thanks from the jungles of Honduras.
+Timothy Blanton you're welcome. Took a little playing around to figure out the options. I'm working on a much more detailed tutorial
Very good tutorial. Really impressed. You are so lucky to have that weather. It is turning to Autumn here in Ireland and flight times are becoming rarer and rarer. Dodging between the showers. Roll on April!
+Liam Brennan Well, we could use a little rain, we are in a drought
Any chance of being able to download this video for playback offline... and thanks, its a very well presented demo.
Thanks for the demo. I'll definitely have to check out your training. The thing I like better about the Iris+ (and Solo I assume) is that it has a map that comes up to create your custom flights. With this one, it appears that you have to actually fly the route to set your waypoints.
+Godless Glen
Be patient and watch for DHI update or buy Litchi App for under $20
+Godless Glen Yes, you can also automate the gimbal tilt on the Solo. At this time, 3DR are doing this better
Nice work. Shows how much potential these modes have for nice smooth shots :)
you can freely rotate the phantom if you choose the free mode.
Also if you get the dual gps blutooth addon can get follow me to use in non gps ipad, but must have the dual gps app running in background
+Dennis Rogers This is a piece of hardware or an app?
The "dual GPS" is an external hardware GPS. That connects via Bluetooth to an iPad. Etc.
+Frank Burch Thanks Frank, Ill check that out!
Finally I found a video worth watching thank you. I've been looking at vids all day and no-one does it better than you.
+Allan Andison Have fun with your new phantom
Thanks for the great tutorial. The Phantom 3 is such a powerful filmmaking tool. Thank you DJI!
Awesome video! I'm very new to this game. This will help me fly my phantom 3 pro. If I need network on my iPad to do some of these, I could broadcast wifi from my iPhone, and still use the large screen iPad for the controller, right?
Finally a great tutorial on these. Bravo! Point of interest seems the most beneficial for me with what I do. I'll have to give it a try.
Great Tutorial!! Very clear and easy to follow. New Phantom 3 pro drone user here. I have just a few questions: 1. +fandi1770 Corse lock and home lock, you can yaw. The other modes, no
Great vid. Is it accurate that you cannot move the camera during the waypoint function?
Good Job! As soon as the rain lets up I'm out there. Very Cool. Thanks!

Hey, how are ya? could you tell me please how you record the apple screen?
nice vis iv been looking for it and didn't know how the new features are working good job
Thanks great tutorial Im about to go play with my inspire 1 and wanted a quick lesson.
Hello. Excellent job. I have a iPad Air 2 with iOS 9. That you use to record the iPad screen??? Shou not work in iOS 9
Best Regards

Thank you very much! I will check it out!
A very valuble post for a new DJI Phantom 3 professional owner, this tought me a lot thank you,
Colin: THX for the tutorial. Doe the intelligent flight modes also apply to the Ph 3 Standard? THX Jan
+Jan Mueller As far as I know they work the same, check DJI to me sure. I've never seen a standard in real life, only the pro and advanced.
Great tutorial! Can't wait to get out there and try them out. I've been bugging DJI about these apps and anxiously waiting. Now I can patrol my security post safely, and have a blast when not working!
+Jim Miller Once you have created the waypoints, you can save them and reuse them.
Sounds amazing...I'm stoked! Thanks for the help!
hi just watching your video and came up with a idea for follow me and that is because your ipad is Wi-Fi only how about teathering it to your I phone or use your iPhone as a hotspot this way your ipad would have a wifi signal. let me know how you get on

Thanks for the video. How can I record my Telemetry so it can appear in my videos?
+Walt's Tech, Toy & Product Info. Channel I had a laptop that was screen recording through a wireless connection with reflector
ok..thx, I'll have to try that
Great simple to follow video, thanks Colin.

nice video
i have to play abit with this on my phantom 3 advanced
Nice video. Thanks for sharing this with us. So cool what the Phantom 3's are capable of at its price point!
I'm sure someone has told you by now but the reason the iPad didn't work for follow me is because it doesn't have a true GPS receiver like any cellular Apple product. Thanks - your demo was very useful.
Record and route is fine but what about "free"? Can you steer the camera however you want then?
Thank you for this very helpful tutorial! Ready to go out and try.
thanks, I am doing a check before my test and yours cover everything I would like to know
Very nice instructions. Thanks! How do you get screen record on your iPad/iPhone?
an app caller reflector to the macbook, reflector kind of sucks, but there isn't anything better I can find yet
Does it work on the Inspire 1?

1.) There are 3 different controller flight options ( joystick controls) to pick from which one do you use/ prefer and why?
Thank you for your response.
+photoshopCAFE plus that the batteries exhaust faster than 20 minutes ..
Excellent tutorial mate. very easy to understand. Thanks.
Sorry for posting a question on one of your old videos Colin but it's the first one I've found of yours and about to go and view more. What are you using to record the DJI app...what you see on your iPad?
Great tuorial, clear and straight to the point! Thank you!
Love the video. When you were in the 2nd Waypoint mode did you think to try a yaw? In the first one I see that you tried (and it makes sense that it didn't work since the mode is to face the recorded directions). But the 2nd I think you got distracted by the battery warning and may not have tried....
+Darcy Whyte yeah, I usually head straight in for a landing when I hit low battery. I will do a more in depth one for my upconing DVD release
How can I set auto repeat waypoints so it continues to move between all the points I set until I decide to exit? I have a entry model drone that fell on the roof of one of the town-houses here and I want to do surveillance over them with enough time to focus on the screen to see what the camera is showing
+miniteeg At ther end of my video, I show how to resuse the waypoints
+photoshopCAFE yeah seen the whole video but it did one round of waypoints. There is no option to enable repetitive rounds of the saved waypoint automatically.
+miniteeg at 10:40 I favoriate the mission (saves it) at 10:56 I reuse it
+photoshopCAFE yep so it is no auto.....it has to be manually done
WOW. Havent touched my P3 since DJI messed up the previous firmware. This looks quite good.
They have made strides
all of this mode has in the inspire 1 too ?
Excellent video! Now I have to try them out! Follow me is pretty cool.
Any comment or opinion will be appreciated.. thank you..
I updated my phantom 3. When switching the mode switch from P to F, the new navigation controls do not come up. What should be done
+Robert Zamalin Make sure you enable multi mode in the app
Great demo. Thanks and keep it coming!!
Hello
I heard there is a way in which you just point in the map where you want to send the drone, but I cannot find it in the app using a dji phantom 3 pro
Tap fly is only on the Phantom 4
Can you make a video on how to use audio while the drone . Kind of boring with the just the music sound track .
Fantastic review! I couldn't even find the new modes on the new firmware....didn't realize you had to change the mode switch. This video made me confident to go out and use these
+Kyle Brady thanks, have fun!
Nice video ,i did the update on the craft ,but my controller still says needs update ,what would be the problem you think ?
+Yiannis pavlis You probably have to update your controller too, no big deal, its easy
I know i try to do all that put the Sim card it the controller but nothing happened
+Yiannis pavlis To make sure you have Version 1.3.2 aircraft and controller updates before updating to the latest V 1.4.0 or the controller won't work.
Thank you ,i will check this out ,i think there is new app on the controller and i update the craft with the micro sim card
How do you sync the UAV video with your mic and how did you get the app overlay video. Very cool!
+Karl Burrows I use Premiere Pro for syncing
+photoshopCAFE Thanks! Getting ready to spend $8000 for Pix4D, so will have to put off that purchase for now. Do you know of any alternate ways to sync at a more affordable price? Thanks for getting back to me!
How did you adjust the speed without touching the screen. The right stick controls the radious but how did you adjust the speed?
+James Bandes I pushed the slider on the screen
Great I thought I was going crazy. It captures just the screen not your finger HAHAHAHAH
+James Bandes lol yeah
Great job explaining these! Thanks for the tutorial!
how to do the POI in the newest dji app go
cause it very different view
how do u go from p to f? i have P or A or S mode thats all on my phantom 4 controller.
Paramveer Singh the P4 does not have F mode. You just stay in P mode. To cancel the mission switch into S or A mode. Then you can go back to P mode
GREAT VIDEO. Can you tell me what you used to capture your iPad and iPhone screen.
I was using SHOU, but that doesn't seem to work anymore.
Thanks
+soloIphone4 I was using reflector. Its not very reliable, but that what I used
+photoshopCAFE Looks great Thank You
so useful and neat features! thanks for the explanation.
What microphone setup did you use for making your recording, and which program did you use to record the control screen? Thanks in advance!
Great video, helped me out a lot
was this the p3 advanced you were using
Can I set waypoints on the app before the flight? I am not crazy about having to record them during an actual flight.
+Andre Gunther no, unlike ground station, you can't
Great review, nice job !
At some point you make the camera look down , how do i do that ? It seems like I can only make the camera look straight forward :(
+Charles NE1 Adjust the gimbal wheel on the right front of your controller, if it doesn't have one, tilt the gimbal through the app. Also you can tap the C1 button on the left bottom of the controller
Does this apply to the P3 Pro as well? I have heard rumors that Dji was possibly not going to implement these options on the pro version.
+Jake Wambold thi is the pro version I used
does this work on the phantom 3 standard
+noahrocks11now yes
Yes, I've got one too and I'm watching this video to understand how to use them properly.
is this the phantom 4 pro?
how do you tilt the camera to look down on an angle? I can only set it straight or straight down...
+John Gnapp not sure which on you have. You should be able to tilt it
Nice Job, Colin!
+Steve Snell Thanks Steve!
