- After many breakdowns and heavy use, these OTIS escalators are finally being retired one by one. Schindler is currently replacing every one of these escalators. A few escalators were turned off so customers can walk up and down them since some were already ripped out. In this video, I take a ride on the remaining original escalators and also get to see one of the new ones which has already been put in service. I didn't realize this mod was happening, so I caught these just in time. I will periodically post updated videos of this escalator replacement project.

Wow! This one is tough for me. I'm gonna miss those old Otis escalators. I'm glad I filmed these in 2009.

They look like KONE directional arrow!! SOOO RARE on a Schindler!!
What's strange is those new Schindlers look like 9700s, the kind you would tend see at a transit station.
Why are modernize this escalators? These are very good condition.
Probably due to how parts for this isn’t really made anymore and maintenance cost too
It says in the description that they kept breaking down
Another bit of history disappearing although with large stores disappearing at a fast rate I am surprised they can justify the cost but I suspect its a requirement due to their age.
