Everybody knew that Jack Bruce was an extraordinary bass player. We also knew he had an incredible voice. The song showcases his immense talent on the piano. Jack Bruce did it all. RIP❤
Saw Jack with Mountain Leslie West and Corky Lang and of course they did this song, saw Leslie at the Golden bear in Huntington Beach ca on a week night. Leslie brought 3 guitars and a cello, just by himself with only 35 people there. Leslie sat in a chair 10 feet away, no stage, best night ever.
What an amazing talent. Bass player, pianist, songwriter and composer. One of Scotland's finest. He deserves a statue in his birthplace of Bishopbriggs, just outside Glasgow.
Wow. Impressive. Never knew he played piano…. and so well! I grew up in a piano household. My mom taught piano and had a degree in piano theory from the Royal Conservatory of Music (London).
Then i can recommend you see the concert from Rockpalast (90?) Where he its only him and the piano. He does like 7 or 8 songs. And the album "Monkjack" is just him on vocals and piano with Bernie Worrell on organ. Sublime
I've never liked the rendition of "Theme for an Imaginary Western" on Songs for a Tailor as much as other versions; it's not bad, but it's too noisy and rushed to do the song proper justice. Other artists have done much better with it (my favorite version is Greenslade's), but it always bothered me that we never got a good reading of it from Mr. Bruce himself. But watching this, I guess we did. Raw, not overdone, and emotionally intense. It still doesn't match the beauty of the Greenslade rendition, and the "Yes, they did" tic made me cringe, but in essence this is the way I always wanted to hear Jack Bruce do this classic song.
One of the greatest rock voices ever. Never get tired of listening to his incredible work with Cream and West, Bruce and Laing. Love ya, Jack... save a place for me.
Theme for an Imaginary Western and Felix Pappalardi/Mountain's Nantucket Sleighride were my two favorite songs back in 1971... I got to see Jack on 10/19/72 at the Chicago Auditorium Theatre with West, Bruce and Laing... My first concert and my favorite concert
I saw Jack with West Bruce and Laing in 1972… Fantastic... Jack won the 'battle of the strings' that night. Leslie waved on his guitar strings like they were on fire and pointed to Jack as Jack just got faster and sharper.

J. B will be alive in my heart for ever. Thank you jack. An imaginary man.

Kudos to Jeff Berlin for a great version of this on his album Jack Songs. Amazing soloing from Eric Johnson and Jeff himself 😎😊
