    Awesome video! Thanks for making it, this will help explain why our wheel is beneficial and give people a heads-up on how the install process goes.

    Remember there is a power source in the fuse box (passenger side, under cover of fuse box, bolt facing drivers side of car has 12V power to it) for you to use for your timing light! Great video thank you

      @Eli peraza I have it on my 1999 NB

    So glad my test car uses A simple distributor adjustment.
    Full timing advance...full throttle acceleration in my Mazda Protege. It uses A prototype to reduce knock.

    I bought a wheel like this and just decided it really wasnt worth the risk. The NA car before OBD2 did not have the knock sensor i believe so the timing was more conservative. On the NB2 (FL) you can be pretty damn sure Mazda tuned it so that the ECU will make the timing optimal and because of the knock sensor much better tuned than the earlier cars.
    By impeding the ability of the knock sensor to do its job you risk the ECU overcompensating and running richer...If you jeep an ete on the fuel grade tou use and temperature when its druven it SHOULD be ok but ..trust me ...ive blown a bottom big end tuning ar a dyno..It cost me an engine change like 800 bucks cause i dodnt have time to attempt an engine change...
    Is it worth the risk? It will net you hardly noticeable gains

    I know this is years later man, but would you still recommend doing this mod on a NB2 w/ VVT? Any issues at all long term? I think I saw that you sold your NB, but how long were u running it with this wheel? Appreciate it brotha!

      did you ever end up buying and installing the timing wheel? i got one and plan on fiddling with it tomorrow.

      How'd it go, I am thinking of doing it over the weekend as well?

    I've got a question. Did you feel any bad things in the higher rpm's? Is the engine still fast around 6000-7000 1/min?

      i am going through a vvt actuator malfunction. if i ever solve it i will probably do that next. have you had any issues with your vvt system?

      Mike Waschenko luckily I haven't had any issues with my VVT system, I'm at 162k miles :)

      damn. 102 here and its been off for a while. i am attempting to replace the seals before buying a head just to get the damn piece. i was thinking they all must be troublesome but you seem to be an exception.

      Mike Waschenko there are little mesh filters in the VVT system, make sure they arnt clogged!

    It’s usually better to check the timing with the engine warm.

    Does it make any noticiable gain? not that expensive to give it a try, but would like an opinion that supports their data. I've the same model as you nb2.

      I felt like it moved the rev range around a little bit, up or down depending on how you adjust it.
      It was worth it to me!

      Set it to 14, two notches. I run 93 gas, feels way more fun on middle rpm.@@pigeon853

      dick. that's weird that you have to advance timing this way. On my NA8 I used the cam angle sensor. Is this a crank angle sensor?. thanks for the video

    • @psychotogen1
      @psychotogen1 7 років тому

      OH I GET IT. It's what the sensor reads. Like an ABS ring. TAADAAA

    • @pigeon853
      @pigeon853 7 років тому +1

      you slot the wheel that the crankshaft sensor reads from! instead of moving the sensor.. you can move what the sensor reads!
