While it's totally safe to replace a ECC83 (=12AX7) with a ECC81 (=12AT7), ECC82 (=12AU7) or any other dual triode preamp tube with identical pin-out and heater requirements, it will need re-biasing for a fair comparison and to make it operate optimally/as intended. Replacing it with a E83CC, the special quality version of the ECC83, will not require any adjustments. I'm not sure if the module has any trim pots to adjust the bias though.
The Metasonix xs vca is a similar price. If you could have only one, the Trog or the Metasonix which would you choose? I cant buy both. Question to anybody.
I'd get the Trogotronic - the Metasonix is a lot of fun as well, but I feel the Trogotronic build quality is better, and it has more range in what it can do.
Looks awesome. Just got the AJH VCA, in combo with my Erica Tube mixer should be able to get some gnarly results.

So glad you made such an in-depth demo of a Trogotronic module. Any chance you'll be covering the m669/m679 anytime soon?
If you can talk WT at Trogotronic to loan these to me down the road, I'd certainly consider it.
