I love Tarja. she is splendid. maybe you can react to something different from Tarja, another cover, world in my eyes by Depeche Mode. That song is from an album by her side project "Outlanders" where she mixes an electronic style with electric guitars. It is music to relax after a hard day of work. The song Sleeping Indian mixes rap (she doesn't do it haha, a man sings). Greetings from Argentina!

She was 1/3 of the co-founders of Nightwish. If they did not invent the genre they certainly helped do so. People should know so many women who took up the genre but Tarja was there when no one knew of the concept let alone the reality. The early babywish era are what people liike Floor and Amy Lee came of age with. Its no knock on them to say they were inspired by Tarja. Tarja took formal classical education and taught herself to sing metal and rock and roll when she grew up singing in churches. She paved the road for others who came after. Breath control. Posture. How she holds her body. How she uses mouth shape and microphone placement are deliberate choices. She knows what she is doing and is a master of her craft. And yet is still learning new styles and new technique. She is still in contact with her vocal coach for when she still is not happy with how a song sounds. Humble enough to ask an expert for their thoughts. Smart lady who knows if you are not learning you are forgetting. The only way to stay at your best is to always be reaching for better. I love Sharon's original but when she sings in that whistle register with no mixed chest voice it can be hard to make out. As for classical yes making out the words through the technique can be an issue. But perhaps that is not the most important point anyway. Most operas are Italian or German. Neither of which I speak. But the emotion is clear enough.
I loved this cover so much. It's a very dramatic twist on the original song, but it works.
