  • Here's a great deal, the Maker’s Mob Black Friday//Cyber Monday:
    go.themakersmob.com/black-fri...
    Everything costs more, from wood to the stuff you smear onto the wood.
    The plywood I wasted costs $100 per sheet now (that includes the government skim off the top at an absurd 13%) and then the real kick in the pants is that $130 for a can of poly.
    And it might be different for you, but I'm pretty sure I'm not making 50% more than I was 3 years ago when these things cost 50% less.

      @@stevecallachor If taxes collected were being allocated correctly and not wasted I would have no issue with taxes but alas, there is more waste than actual good form taxes.

      In 1986 when I first bought water based poly, it was $35 per gallon and the sales tax was 7%. Today, due to the inflation that the government created (and added regulations for manufacturing) that same can of finish costs $114 and the sales tax has also inflated to nearly double what it was and is now 13%.
      Government's cut in 1986: $2.45
      Government's cut in 2022: $14.82
      So while the product has tripled in price over that time, the tax take on that single product has increased by a factor of 6.
      I used the word absurd to describe that 13%, it's really a better word to describe the level of ignorance and gullibility of the general public that allows this theft to continue. And not only allow it, but defend it and try to shout down anyone that sees through the lies and can do basic math.

    I thought your last video was very well done, informative, creative, and inspiring. The click bait type stuff probably isn't necessary for your audience. I plan to continue watching your channel and appreciate that you share your talent with us. Thanks for all your hard work and for the inspiration to create my own unique projects.

    Completely agree, the cost of everything has gotten to be disappointing. As far as voice overs in videos I always thought it gave the advantage of being able to shorten the videos length, and it certainly made it easier shooting it :-) Always enjoy hanging out in the shop with you John.

    John, I will watch your videos with or without a gimmick. I've bought and used many of your plans. so buddy don't give 1 second of thought to how to "trick" people into watching. If its from you I will watch it. I look forward to every one of them. Your name and reputation is all that you need. This you have earned over the years of hard work. Thanks for all you do.

    Just came back from buying 1/2 ply from big box store. Wanted 3/4 but refused to pay those ridiculous prices. At the rate things are going, it’s going to be cheaper to buy prebuilt shop cabinets amongst other things.

    The most important thing is that you, the creator has fun. And the fun you will see in the video, and that is what makes great content. And that is what I see in the videos when you made something that you like. In the beginning it was fun and then it became work, more stressful and a need to make a video. Get the fun back and let the complainers complain, they are safe behind the keyboard and search for something to complain about but probably never held a tool more complicated than a screwdriver. Make things you like and have fun making it.

    I appreciate the updates.
    Not only is the plywood cheaper but the veneer seems thinner. Last weekend I used double sided tape to hold two pieces together so that they are identical when I cut their odd shape. When I pulled them apart the veneer ripped off in spots. Luckily I was able to hide it.

    • @IBuildItScrapBin
      @IBuildItScrapBin  Рік тому +2

      That exact thing happened while I was making the ceiling panels - the tape pulled off a strip of veneer. As it turned out it was one of the ones that I had to remake, but for $100 per sheet that shouldn't be happening.

    I reckon you have a very loyal base who have grown accustomed to your syle and like it so you aren't going to have to attract views from them. I watch a political commentator who does good, interesting, content but his clickbait titles have become so extreme the video content has become disappointing because it seldom bears any resemblance to the promise of the video thumbnail. We are being bombarded with content vying for position in our recommendations so it's a relief to see a recognisable, trustworthy, thumbnail from a creator we value because we know what to expect. Just do what you are doing and enjoy it because it's bloody hard work.
    Best Wishes, Brendan.

    • @IBuildItScrapBin
      @IBuildItScrapBin  Рік тому

      UA-cam today is a steady stream of throwaway content that washes away any of the good quality stuff by shear volume, and it's only getting worse. Nearly everyone now has clued into the reality that in order to get people to watch, they need to make their tidbit of trash stand out in a flood of the garbage.
      I'm committing business suicide to do what I'm doing, since it's views that not only bring in the money, but also maintain the rank of my channel for having my videos recommended. But I'm at the point where I don't have to worry as much about squeezing every last cent out of this.

I will continue to watch regardless if it interests me at the moment or not your little gems of observation are worth it

    I hear ya, its got me keeping all my scraps no matter how small, I was demoing closet shelves in a burnout the other day. they were just smoked up but the insurance company requires us to remove and replace, I would normally just chunk them all in the dumpster but I brought them back to the shop to sand, seal and reuse on a non insurance project. times are lean John, lol

You for sure have a contribution of SKILL... AND you let yourself be somewhat vulnerable to your audience. We think A LOT alike, and like you, I don't mind if someone disagrees with me... It's called "being different"! You be you John... Cheers!

    $100 a sheet?🤣🤣 wow that seems expensive... until you check out Current UK prices. I've recently seen as much as £270 for an 8x4 foot sheet including tax and delivery to as low as £150 a sheet PLUS £60 kerbside pallet delivery. yikes!.....Used to be just 1.5x the cost of regular ply. 😡 For a pensioner tinkering in his garage that strong meat!. and as a tiny channel myself I understand the time you have taken over the years in editing and your honesty and production values having watched you on and off for years.... crack on John!

    Your voice is great for a voice over ! If you like "Little Children" narrator's voice, maybe you'll enjoy also Marshall voice, good talk and thinking, from "Draftsmen" youtube video-podcast series (about art). You don't need Vincent Price voice, just a voice wich is perfect for the task : "The Big Year" doesn't have Christopher Lee voice, neither need it, John Cleese was perfect there. Cheers and be happy !
