Nice sounds from all the pianos. My CA701 arrives this week after a 2 month wait from Japan. I read a bit of music to get ideas, techniques and riffs, but my best is to just play whatever comes out of my fingers. That’s where the creativity and fun comes from. Playing other people’s music from a score is also good, but harder work😂
Yes exactly! I always have so much fun just doing my own thing and hearing what comes out when I play. I hope you enjoy your new piano after the long wait!
@@kaylalarkinpiano it’s arrived this afternoon and I love it already. The piano sounds are mind blowing and the level of control of dynamics is incredible. Try the Jazz Ensemble voice for an exercise in control of dynamics.
Hi! I’m glad you liked it so much! So to be completely honest I don’t think tutorials are really my specialty, especially since whenever I sit down to play a song I don’t play it the exact same way each time, so it would actually be probably very difficult and time-consuming for me to try to record tutorials. I’ve been wanting to upload more music on a consistent basis but it’s been difficult to do that while dealing with chronic medical issues, so when I do have the energy and capabilities to record, I would much rather get music more uploaded. Hopefully that makes sense! Thank you for your comment❤️
@@kaylalarkinpiano thank you very much for sharing this, now I understand the situation, could you record with the camera at another angle? to try to see your hands and copy ? if you can of course, anyway thank you very much for leaving this masterpiece of version... it was the best on youtube so far and every day I listen to it 🙌❤️
I had just received an upgrade from my dealer from a CA99 to a CA901 and I'm glad I got it. The speakers are such a huge upgrade as they sound much cleaner and less boxy than its predecessor. The new Competition Grand sounds better than the original SK-EX rendering to my ears for its crisper and harder attack. I also play modern music such as video game pieces like this and I think the brighter sound suits them. If I may ask for your thoughts, which sample do you find yourself using the most?
I played the CA99 in the showroom but ordered the CA901 since I wanted the ebony polish and my dealer did not have the CA99 in ebony polish. I didn’t play the CA-99 long enough like you have to really get to know the nuances of the differences in speakers, but I’m glad I got the better speakers from what it sounds like. I found myself using the original SK-EX rending at first since I like the warmth to it but recently been using more of the the Competition Grand as I think I’m starting to like the more crisp tone now. Feels a little more balanced. The sample I play the least is the EX Grand as it’s the brightest and I don’t always prefer much brightness. I do love the SK-5, it’s different and I like it. And I love the upright sound too. So to answer your question, I played the SK-EX grand piano most at first but now I’m playing the competition grand more frequently now. I probably play both samples around the same amount.
@@kaylalarkinpianowhat made you choose the ebony polish? Was it with the added cost? I just bought a brand new Kawai GL40 grand piano (also in Ebony Polish) but it would have been the same price in the satin black. I chose my Kawai GL40 over the Kawai GX1 because of how warm sounding it is. But my Kawai GL40 is overpowering in my small apartment so I am looking into getting either a Kawai CA901, CA701 or NVS5 or possibly Yamaha NU1XA as they are offering me several grands off the sales floor model. Did you get a chance to try out the CA701? My Kawai GL40 is in my living room but whatever hybrid I get will be in my bedroom. Which would you recommend? I play a lot of Chopin and Brahms. Thank you
Thank you! It’s my own arrangement. I’ve gotten a lot of inspiration from Kyle Landry (another UA-cam musician) over the years so my playing style can be similar to his at times.

Thank you! I’ve been playing for about 20 years. I started playing when I was very young, around 5 years old. I took lessons for a very short time and basically just learned which keys on the piano were which notes. Then I learned on my own by ear. I did a lot of listening throughout the years. I would replay songs over and over again until I could hear and find which notes were being played. I loved doing it and was persistent with it. I played for hours a day at times. I learned how to read chord charts at church later on which helped build up my skill as well. A lot of my inspiration throughout the years came from movie scores, video game scores, contemporary piano artists (Philip Wesley), and youtubers (Kyle Landry). It takes a lot of time and practice, but the most important thing is that you are enjoying yourself!

Thank you so much it's really beautiful, I planning to buy CA701 but i guess CA901 recorded sound no different than CA701 isn't it? Since they have same sound engine the difference only CA901 upright cabinet and soundboard for internal speaker. I planning to learn piano as my new hobby.
Thank you! Yes that should be correct, they really only sound different when you play both of them in person. Over recording they should sound the same.
Thank you! I am so incredibly happy with it. The action feels great, but do note that I grew up playing digital pianos my whole life so I haven't had all that much experience with acoustic action, just some experience here and there. I'm not classically trained. But from what I can tell the action on this piano is really satisfying to me. I played the Novus5 and I actually preferred the action on the CA901 since the Novus5 was a little on the heavier side to me. The action on the CA901 feels perfect for my playing style. I hope you enjoy the CA901 when you receive it!
I recorded video with my iphone, and I recorded audio from the piano directly onto the usb. I didn’t manipulate the audio in any way. I deleted the audio from the iphone video and attached the WAV audio to the video. Getting the audio to align to the video is a little annoying for me, video editing isn’t my thing haha it is easier to attach the WAV audio first on top of the video’s audio before deleting the video’s audio to try to get the WAV audio to align correctly.
For me the keys are neither too heavy or too light. I know a lot of people have said that the keys are on the lighter side but they feel good to me. I have not had any issues with the keys clicking.
@@kaylalarkinpiano Lucky... Are you experiencing any key clicking now after 4 months? This must be the omega lottery for the people that don't receive clicking sounds
@@BFHPET That is the main difference, there might be other minor differences that I don’t know about on the top of my head. You should be able to see the all of the specs for both models on the Kawai website to compare.
I wanted to buy the Kawai CA 701/901. But I won't now, after playing themin a showroom. They're unrealistically, extremely light. Too much lighter than any average acoustic grand piano that there are at the exam of highly advanced classical music diploma exams, such as the LTCL Trinity College recital diploma exam. they are like feather, a toy. I think that this lightness, too much different and lighter than the acoustic ones, is going to affect the performance on the acoustic grand pianos, because you won't perform the same way on the acoustic if studying mainly in these Kawai models; and it might make failing an advanced exam. I was very disappointed by this extreme lightness of the Grand Feel 3 Action. The old model CA99 was very light too, but even if it's the same GF3 action, was a bit less light than the 701/901. It's a non sense from the Kawai to make successors even lighter. I played also a Casio GP510, and it was much better than I thought. The Grand hammer Action with Real hammers has a firmer and nicely heavier more realistic touch than these Kawai toys. Probably the Casio GP 510 is the best and most near to an acoustic action within my budget
Have you tried any other Kawai actions? I wonder if RH3 and Grand Feel Compact feel heavier (I don't have the possibility to try them in my area, Sicily - are you Italian too btw?) but I was going towards Kawai because it seems like they have some of the best value for money compromises.
