Thank you, Jason Romero, for being my guiding north star of Banjo playing. Hopefully, I can show you one day that I learned this song by ear by listening to it probably over 400 times. Still just as beautiful as listen 1.
This is the prettiest I’ve ever heard a banjo sound, and even though I have the album and listen to that version a lot, this particular recording is just magic in some way
You're not gonna find any more talented people than these two. In addition to making such fine music, they're both superb craftsmen with the instruments they build. Buy every CD they have out. You won't be disappointed.
Hola Paris & Jason: we have a brow labrador and her name is LULA and she run away all time. It is 5 years old now. I found your beautiful song on a spanish TV show named "en la tuya o en la mia". Great Music !!!
This tune and her performance are an ultimate highlighte of folk music creativity. The guitar accomp. with the "broken" cord-fingering is a joy to see. Thnx !
Every time I watch/listen to this video, I just get more entranced. I have built a few similar gourd banjos, but none sound as clean and articulate as this one. The performance is superb, too.
My only question is how the hell could this video get ANY thumbs down, let alone four? Clearly, there's no accounting for taste (because this performance was tasty)!
And if so. This is one of the three songs I really find magic, but strugle to find ond my banjo. Waterbound is the second, though I thing I have the most of that down, thanks to slow motion Youtubing of Dirks performance on that film music thing and your video on how tp play it. Is there any chanse you can make a similar tutorial for this song? Or a tab. That would be greatly apreciated - and payd for too, if that is an option. The third song is the Morwan Megan as played by Steve Baighmann. I cannot make theise three fit my banjos. Anyway. Cheers from Norway!
It's mountain tuning DGCD lowered to an half and 5th lowered to one tone. It takes a gourd banjo (easy to get) and Jason talent (much more difficult to catch) to play this tune.
Dude it sucks. I go on their website like every month, but I am so far from being to make a banjo sound like this and as legato, that I dont pull the trigger lol but your comment made me laugh
I'm guessing it's a gourd banjo from the way the head is tacked on. Steel strings would put too much stress on the instrument, so as with a lot of mountain-style banjos built mostly without metal, nylon strings become the option of choice. And you're right--it sounds absolutely amazing. Straight from heaven.
And the award for best banjo tone ever goes to ...
Goes to an instrument grown on a vine. Coming to a garden near you.
@@gutbucket260 too bad there's a year long waiting list for these banjos

Raise your hand if you've been trying to pick and learn this and fail to sound half as good as Jason.
I've got it down, but you're right. Aside from Jason's talent, I think that gourd banjo plays a big part as well! Beautiful sounding instrument.
Story of my banjo life. This is literally the song that made me want to learn ❤
This is the prettiest I’ve ever heard a banjo sound, and even though I have the album and listen to that version a lot, this particular recording is just magic in some way
Agreed. Something magic about this particular performance that really stands out.
Arguably one of the most beautiful songs I ever heard.

Absolutely heavenly sounding to the ear.

Beautiful song Jason and Pharis....Jack Baker NJ
I listen to a lot of banjo music from every recording era and I don't know if there's a more beautiful instrumental than this in the repetoire.

From Jasons notes : Banjo tuning: eC#F#BC#
Thanks, Guy! This is one worth trying to figure out- is this an original tune?
+Robert Wright Written Liner notes say that it was written on behalf of their dog lost in the BC wilderness.
Hi Guy. Is that the same tuning as the one Dirk Powells Waterbound your hava lesson for?
And if so. This is one of the three songs I really find magic, but strugle to find ond my banjo. I heard them live at The Vinyl Cafe!!!!! was amazing
Love it.
Beautiful. I wonder what it would sound like on fiddle. I doubt it would be as haunting.
Brilliant
I don't really get gear lust for acoustic instruments, but man that banjo has a magical sound.
Hoping Pharis makes some lyrics for this soulful tune!🤗💖
a big thought to my mom who loves "banjo" sound *_* ... amazing performance
If I played the banjo I'd be on Jason's website now ordering one of those gourds. The most delicate beautiful sound a banjo can make.
Dude it sucks. I go on their website like every month, but I am so far from being to make a banjo sound like this and as legato, that I dont pull the trigger lol but your comment made me laugh
La música country es la musica mas bella que existe
Je français I'm French it's beautiful I fly with your song it's magic ❤️❤️❤️
Really need a tutorial for this hahah amazing piece!
4 people didn't like this........really? Beautiful tune
Nice!
sweet!
Jason is one of my two favorite clawhammer players. Wanna guess who the other one is? Hint - His initials are SB.
@@gypsyfire032011 Um, Steve Bartin? 😉🪕
❤
This is so pretty. I gotta figure out Jason's tuning for that gourd!

Taylor Doolittle Thanks man! I'm gonna go try it out now!
What was it?
Wish to learn to play this incredible tune but I do not get it, oh boy ....
Is Jason using nylon strings on this banjo? It sounds so warm and thick. Amazing playing and exceptional tone.

Is this beautiful tune measured 4/4 all around ? While counting 4/4 it seems to fit all right but then somewhere l get lost . 🤪
beautiful, what class of banjo or folk genere is this?
+matias muniagurria Jason is playing banjo in the clawhammer style. Most often associated with American Old Time music
Such a beautiful song. That gourd banjo is awesome. Was this written while looking for your dog Lula? Did you find her?
What strings are being used on the gourd banjo?
🌺💚LULA 13 PT💛🌺
Does anybody know what tuning Jason's banjo is in?
On their album it's eC#F#BC# which i believe is the same as this version
That looks like a gourd banjo. Am I right?
Anyone wanna help me out with the banjo tuning?
What more is there to say ..
Beautiful
