I think it's super cool when people use proxies, but since I don't have a 3d printer it's usually cheaper just to buy the real thing. I did make some lil plaguebearers out of cheap pokemon minis myself and i'm working on a slaaneshy demon prince made out of a (well endowed) rhino warrior toy I got for 10 bucks. Another thing that speaks against using resin prints for me is that my clumsy ass would drop and shatter them constantly...
I play Guard. I have almost exclusively Proxies. I got a Command-Chimera Kitbash, a regular Cimera, a Basilisk (Kitbashed) and an Engineseer. The rest of my Army is a mix of Mortian Tanks, Taurox and Sentinel Proxies (i wanted wheeled Vehicles for those), Victoria Miniatures Characters and two Hellhound-Proxies, a bunch of Anvil-Industries Infantrymen (and heavy-Weapons Teams) for my own interpretation of a Regiment from Ambulon-Hive on Scintilla. I just followed what i found cool and could fit into a Warhammer context. I don't think it was cheaper. But it is definitely MY Army.
Local GW store manager suspected a guy of having china forge models so picked up a model and scratched a bit of paint off with his nail without asking, people avoided the store after that.
That’s terrible, I have 3d printed masks on my otherwise 100% GW kits and was told by my local GW shop owner I couldn’t play because 3d prints aren’t allowed
@@4Refros that doesn't make any sense, cause even their tournament guidelines say that you can use 3d printed bits, but the model has to be a majority GW model
A big problem I have always had with game stores with game rooms is that there are so many gate keepers. Gotta have this to play. Gotta have the minis painted just right, or whatever. They are like the hall monitors in school given even more power to kill the joy. I refuse to play in game stores. I'd rather have a group of friends or people I invite to come and play. The only rule is, if you are a jackass, you leave. As the home owner, I get to set the rules on who can stay and who gets ejected. I have had to do that several times. Don't kill the mood.
I equally love seeing the awesome looking proxies created by talented sculptors, and just running the absolute dumbest shit and in jokes as whatever, Scoopy is amazing lmao.
most of my armies are either kitbashed, proxies or altered in some way. i feel like this makes them more my own and unique. and if my opponent ever starts complaining about them, its a good indicator that i do not want to be playing against that person anyways. im in it for the fun, and having stock standard armies, isnt fun for me.
I added some ammo crates with grenades in them to my marines bases to represent the ones that would have grenade launchers because I originally built them without them
Our playgroup has no trouble with proxies that are the spirit of the game. 3D sculpts from amazing designers can add a nice variety to the game table. In our head canon, we accept that (for example) an imperial guard unit from a distant galaxy would have different hats :)
Holy crap, did the Halo mini guy have kind of anime painted Leman Russes in his army? If so, I've seen that army for sale on my local Facebook marketplace
Grey Knights is another army that suffers from GW just not selling mini's for more than half the units it seems. And we don't talk about Kaldor Draigo...I quite enjoy my GW free dark angels terminator that I painted up as my Kaldor Draigo
I was at Warhammer World in Nottingham at the weekend. There are no model police there checking tables. So you could easily play your proxies as long as it’s not an official tournament event.
I just did a combat patrol tournament at my LGS using nothing but Ravaged Star Veil Touched minis, more people said they looked more chaos than the GW miniature line
One trend I've seen loads of over the years is people asking TO's "is this proxy ok?" Being told no and then seeing other people at that tournament using the same proxy and nobody caring.
This is an issue I saw with Trench Crusade. Not only does it seem to encourage kitbashing and proxying, but also you have to buy every soldier's gear separately, which means it's very likely the equipment on your minis will never match the equipment on their gear sheet. I kinda like the simplicity of 40k 10e, admittedly never played 9th but I appreciate not having to buy wargear, and just be handed a standard shortlist of options. Makes it easier for me to get an army list ready to play, and makes it easier for me to learn other people's armies too. And proxying is a bit easier because you're proxying the unit, not the model, so you can use the context clues of the rest of the unit to help you figure out what it is.
I've taken 3D prints to warhammer world several times (not for events) and no ones ever said anything, my mates even used a unpainted raw resin 3d print greater demon and no ones cared
"Sometimes it's fun to use your cat as a warlord titan.." LOL THE KYA/NUNU REFERENCE! How you'd paint on the projected face would be to paint it on using white and grey over black (brow, cheek bones, lips, chin, possibly eyes) and then put ghost tints over it and then several layers of gloss clear to give it a lot of depth and make it look sunk way down in there.. You could also paint the face then do multiple layers of clear then the ghost tint then another layer of clear so it holds the tinted layer up off of it and gives the illusion of depth.. It's a trick that's used in custom automotive paint. I hate that they named a Dark Eldar model Urien Rakarth.. all they did was throw two named Dark Elf characters together.. Urian Poisonblade and Beastlord Rakarth. The only proxy models I have (other than when I use my old black orcs as ardboyz) are the ones I'm building from scratch because I can't afford minis or a 3d printer and I haven't won a box set that was being given away.
I was struggling to find chimeras to build out my guard army, so I run a pair of deGSCed Goliath trucks as Chimeras, including one that can have a crane swapped on the side turret to run as a Trojan
A lot of the Hellraiser movies were made to keep the so the rights wouldn't have to be given back to Clive Barker, similar to why some of the Fantastic Four were made
I'm waiting on a 3 set of grimguard exorcists that I ordered from Proxywars. They looks so sick, one of them is a plague doctor looking dude. Can't wait to get them! I need to learn how to play 40K 😅
i only have one rule when it comes to proxies, make the base and the hight right, then i dont care the difference between a 40mm base and a 60mm base is important enough to make a fuss about it, its the difference between getting tru some terrein options
I love proxy, I use a lot of them, you should look at highland miniature for dwarf proxy for old world they are fantastic. It would be cool to see you paint some 3d printed models from random creators
I'm a WYSIWYG-guy, but love using kitbashes on my army. There is one kitbas I have, my primaris "Iron priest", that I use as a primaris tech marine and it misses some weapons. But full on proxies that can be anything and doesn't look like proxied model is not my thing.
I just 3d print GW model scans! it’s silly money these days and that’s from someone in the uk where it’s cheapest. Box of 10 minis used to be £20-30. It’s now £45-50. GW profits are at a record high.. and yet they keep increasing cost of products. Citadel paint has got worse too and it’s more expensive. I buy rule books, and a few GW bits. But yeah they’re making the hobby less fun as you have to think before buying now
All my mini's are proxies, because I won't pay GW money. They work just fine. All my Gunpla however are bought and paid for, because I support good value driven products. (Because one bottomless Rogal Dorn tank should not cost more than SIX Gunpla kits twice the size of imperial knights)
There's a fairly extensive community for custom characters for Marvel Crisis Protocol. I get to paint whatever characters I want and I can play them in the game as those characters. I play final fantasy, breath of fire, and megaman characters
my death guars are completely mezgike prints and my tyranids are mostly prints now too. not ever paying those GW prices again after buying couple tyranids
I prefer my proxies to be WYSIWYG if they're a different model than what they proxy. But if it's the same model I'm okay with proxy as different load out. (Like aggressors)
Way back in 5th ed, or maybe even 4th ed 40k, my buddy was playing daemons and wanted to run a keeper of secrets, so we figured out the bottom of one of our take out soda cups was the same size as the base, so we had a burger king cup daemon. Even better, he was trying to find dice to count his wounds, and I just leaned over and hit one of the bubble pop thingies on the lid, lol.
For guard, third party minis/proxies are the only way to reasonably get infantry (plus, it allows for the vast uniqueness shown in the lore, like me kitbashing medieval knights as my catachans). As someone who sells 3d stls for warhammer for the love of god please just print, there is a small chance you will find mine, but please IF YOU ARE LOW ON MONEY BUY A PRINTER AND HIT ME UP I WILL GIVE IT TO YOU FOR FREE
The fact is that it's not feasible for a company to make like a bunch of different versions of each model. They are just going to lose money that way. Which is unfortunate but that's how things go. I can see a world where they tackle it in a SMARTER way and make multiple sculpts and sculpt proxy pieces that they sell stls for and encourage kitbashing through 3d printing. But even that might grow tenuous because I can see people complaining about having to buy those too and just sharing stl files. Bottom line is that if everyone only used the same models, which should look good, it would make things more stale because everything looks the same. Kitbashing is the way to a more interesting and fun experience for everyone. It makes sense that it is difficult for games workshop to support that because it's essentially supporting their own competition.
Thats one thing I enjoy about proxying models GW hasnt updated, is wondering if they can make it better than mine. I went to a store early on in my 40k life and I had to play against a raven guard player who had his marines riding my little ponies instead of bikes. Ive disliked proxies from that.
I've been getting into mini agnostic games like Turnip28 and Trench Crusade and a lot of the fun for me is the hunt for the perfect model to kitbash or scratch build to fit my vision
I’m on the lookout for a good cannoness proxy cause I really dislike both models and all their variants. Canoness with jump pack could be any old seraphim like I do not get it.

Personaly, for me is always WYSIWYG. I would never proxy any model. For my oponents i am fine with counts as models, as long as they are still painted models, with an apropriat size and base. What i realy don´t whant to see on my gaming board is emersion breaking stuff. Unpainted minis, Pringles cans Carnifexes or cerial box baneblades or plush toys rubber banded to a base.
cherubs i make copies of the one i have and change it some don't want to steal IP but i like them none the less and speaking of game play they don't do anything so i see them more as flavor but i like them that and i main iron hands so cyborg parts are hard to come by so i free sculpt the parts i also run iron warriors so they cut off parts touched by chaos so kind of hard to come up with a mold to follow but i do try and follow the lore so they look like a space marine who skipped arm and leg day i also do some chaos touched white scars fusing a half dude to a motor cycle is not that hard
that is sacrilegious talk. you wouldn't even have this hobby if not for GW. f*ck proxy. f*ck that mindset. that isa seriously weak spine thinking that. work harder. afford them.
I always check Etsy for proxies especially for the more expensive games workshop models because I’ll never play at Warhammer World and the damn hobby is expensive enough. Not to mention the gender swapped Mortarion is makes disease look so good.
What do you think about proxy models? What proxy models have you added to your army? I want to know!
Mostly proxies now. GW is too expensive here is Australia and as you’ve noted a lot of the proxies are much cooler
Since Third edition I have used a metal St Celestine model with Pegasus wings as a Slaaneshi Sorceror.

I'm always on the lookout for cool alternative models. My new wood elf army will be led by a guy riding a giant bumblebee instead of a warhawk.
For orks and geneatealers, feels much more immersive to use random proxy vehicles
I literally buy vehicles from other factions and suddenly there’re genestealer vehicle (thank you old SM rhinos)
Im lookin for a 6 in tall gundam kits to proxy for killa cans
I painted my Dreadnought Nuka Cola colors because I was so used to him as a literal coke can.
Local GW store manager suspected a guy of having china forge models so picked up a model and scratched a bit of paint off with his nail without asking, people avoided the store after that.

"i dont plan on ever doing that, so i think i'll be okay" pithy and beautiful i gotta bring this kinda energy to the rest of my life
I equally love seeing the awesome looking proxies created by talented sculptors, and just running the absolute dumbest shit and in jokes as whatever, Scoopy is amazing lmao.
I've always thought of the Hellraiser movies as being a proto-Slaanesh warp representation of the emotions that went on to eventually form Slaanesh
most of my armies are either kitbashed, proxies or altered in some way. i feel like this makes them more my own and unique. and if my opponent ever starts complaining about them, its a good indicator that i do not want to be playing against that person anyways. im in it for the fun, and having stock standard armies, isnt fun for me.

To your point about Scoopy: proxies are totally ok ESPECIALLY in service of "getting models on the table to play the game"!!
I like proxy models, but my cat gets very angry when I try to glue her on a base...
Just put one on each foot
Scoopy right on the right and judging the other models with his side eye and smirk is such a mood
I just did a combat patrol tournament at my LGS using nothing but Ravaged Star Veil Touched minis, more people said they looked more chaos than the GW miniature line
I almost had a stroke when you called them “the pinhead movies” lmao
This is so wholesome, positive and just... fun!. Thank you so much.
Used my 3 year old as my Chaos Knight. She did her job and tore up the table.
One trend I've seen loads of over the years is people asking TO's "is this proxy ok?" Being told no and then seeing other people at that tournament using the same proxy and nobody caring.
You should make a squad of heavy intercessors (the gravis ones) give them templar melee weapons, and play them as assault terminators
These paint jobs are just so freaking good. We'll done.
This is an issue I saw with Trench Crusade. Trench Crusade, or even most other games, does not expect you to adhere to wysiwyg to that degree.
I love using proxies for games. I always build my own vehicles.

I can not stress how much I love Culver and recognized the ice cream cone immediately
“It is not hands that call us…It is DESIRE.”
i constantly use AOS models on Tabletop sim, in place of some models in 40k.
Storm Cast Eternals for my Custodies is my main example.
I just 3d print GW model scans! it’s silly money these days and that’s from someone in the uk where it’s cheapest. Box of 10 minis used to be £20-30. It’s now £45-50. That imperial guard player with all halo proxies was recently involved in some controversy at LVO 😂😅
What happened??
10:40 if I'm remember it's a name character for the Medusa campaign not just a demon prince.
My guess is that 'Scoopie' is from the chain 'Culvers.'
Correct
All my mini's are proxies, because I won't pay GW money. They work just fine.
All my Gunpla however are bought and paid for, because I support good value driven products.
(Because one bottomless Rogal Dorn tank should not cost more than SIX Gunpla kits twice the size of imperial knights)
There's a fairly extensive community for custom characters for Marvel Crisis Protocol. I get to paint whatever characters I want and I can play them in the game as those characters. I play final fantasy, breath of fire, and megaman characters
Cats make the best warlord titans
I would like to have some proxy Khorne Daemons. The bloodletters GW sells are so old they need replacing.
this drops as i spent $320 AUD on the "ultimate starter set" today lol
my death guars are completely mezgike prints and my tyranids are mostly prints now too. not ever paying those GW prices again after buying couple tyranids
SEPTIMUS MENTIONED!!! The human retinue in the NL trilogy was so entertaining, loooove Hound as well
I prefer my proxies to be WYSIWYG if they're a different model than what they proxy.
But if it's the same model I'm okay with proxy as different load out. (Like aggressors)
That's a good way to go about proxying. If correct model, allow loadout flexibility. If complete proxy, demand WYSIWIG on weapons.
Put some honour on my man Septimus’ name.
Way back in 5th ed, or maybe even 4th ed 40k, my buddy was playing daemons and wanted to run a keeper of secrets, so we figured out the bottom of one of our take out soda cups was the same size as the base, so we had a burger king cup daemon. How’s the competition with Scott going? Two months left, right?
Do the Mysterio from marvel mask ..the ghost smokey face
All your proxies are excellent
For guard, third party minis/proxies are the only way to reasonably get infantry (plus, it allows for the vast uniqueness shown in the lore, like me kitbashing medieval knights as my catachans).
But I frankly agree with your statement on mini agnostic wargames. Its hard for me to get into the vibe of a setting when everything is generic. US infantry in Marcher make me want to play the game a lot more then just Trench Crusade for example (also I dont play skirmish games usually but whatever)
First 🤘
PS: I don't have proxies per se, I only have kitbashed proxies for models that do not exist in the Death Guard range; DG Lord and Sorcerer in Terminator Armour.
Your 2nd, but thats ok😊
Bottom line is that if everyone only used the same models, which should look good, it would make things more stale because everything looks the same. and I love your intro!!!
Chaos Scoopy STLs for EoB monthly release?
Thats one thing I enjoy about proxying models GW hasnt updated, is wondering if they can make it better than mine. Iv kitbashed every Necron character I could make into plastic, since I hate failcast with a passion. Conveniently, Orikan and Imotekh got new models, and they were the last two I had to figure out how to make, especially Orikan, but now I dont. Assuming Trazyn is next, Im wondering if GW will keep him similar to his failcast model like Orikan and Imotekh or give him a redesign like Illuminor Szeras. My Trazyn is just an updated almost identical plastic version, outside of the base. I had a little fun with all of the bases of my characters and thats part of the reason I wanted to make my own versions
I like games with more grounded settings. Makes it easy enough to just use historical figures.
Need it to be fantasy? Just put a wizard next to them. Plenty of manufacturers of grounded looking fantasy races too.
Sci-fi is a bit tougher. There are options floating around though.
Drukhari proxies have never hit the mark for me, too many sculptors leave out the details that really make me like them.
They focus wayy to much on them being "BDSM murder elves" and not "Raiders From the Dark City".
Posted 1 minute ago, love your videos!
Iv been to warhammer world a number of times and used 3d printed bits. No one checks. All be it most of the army was gw minis.
Are you familiar with the philosopher Max Stirner and his concept of "ownness?" Use your own minis.
Hey, it's Scoopie from Culver's!
Proxies and Prints dont keep the lights on at your local LGS
I feel like people care more then they say about playing against proxies. It's like playing with or against an unpainted army. Using proxies is decision based mostly on cost not choice. If you play a lot of Warhammer with a lot of other Warhammer players, you are eventually going to want to invest into the game of Warhammer. (This does not apply to everyone just a board statement, enjoy with your friends however you want)
Out of context Cultist smash **refuses to eleborate and leaves the video**
Games Workshop "Libera te tutemet ex inferis"
GamesWorkshop Elitism is the worst thing to happen to the hobby. Its a game, a leisure activity have fun, screw the "pro" mentality.
Wouldn't the Raks be the Cenobites from Hellraiser?
I’m on the lookout for a good cannoness proxy cause I really dislike both models and all their variants. Canoness with jump pack could be any old seraphim like I do not get it.
I mean Culver's has locations in 26 states....just throwing that out there
if there not real there not Warhammer minis
GAMES WORKSHOP. Sir, place the minature on the ground and show us your hands.
Or, even better….don’t use Warhammer rules either!!! Play more games :D
We are the opposite though. I love miniature agnostic games. It lets me use whatever cool minis I want! Gives me the excuse I need to just buy whatever tickles my fancy.

For mesbg I have practically only proxies... old expensive gw minis? Naaaaa, also because they are always out of stock. New style proxies? Yes please
the dark eldar figures are sexy lelel

Day 29 asking for Fire Lords chapter
that is sacrilegious talk. you wouldn't even have this hobby if not for GW. f*ck proxy. f*ck that mindset. that isa seriously weak spine thinking that. work harder. afford them.
You seem fun
Did you just go gym bro over a table top war game?
I always check Etsy for proxies especially for the more expensive games workshop models because I’ll never play at Warhammer World and the damn hobby is expensive enough. Not to mention the gender swapped Mortarion is makes disease look so good.
