Congrats!! Been watching the videos for a couple of years. Never would have guessed with the level of quality you put into your videos that you were under 100K subs. I would have thought there was another 0 there. Keep up the great work.
Congrats on 100K! 🎉🥳 As for the pollen patties, I think it's silly to think giving them to bees will make them lazy. If you plant a huge patch of spring-blooming plants right next to a hive, will it condition them to no longer go far away for pollen in later months once those flowers nearby have stopped blooming? Of course not. Even if the bees did prefer the substitute (which, as you said, they don't), that's still not how bees work at all
Congratulations on 100k! You make great content, sir... and you know how when to not make content just to make it. Keep telling the story of your hives. Its fascinating.
Congratulations Jim-No surprise- you have one of the best beekeeping channels out there! And, as always, looking forward to all your future videos. 👍🏻🐝
Wow... It's be a while. I was brought to your channel by trying to get a grasp on the "Flow hive" and how effective/ useful it could be. Then Balboa happened, a legend was born. The new hives look amazing, and might actually push me into keeping a hive for myself (Minnesota gets pretty darn cold). What I appreciate the most, is the honesty. If you screwed up you're willing to admit it. Then you learn from it and move forward. Sometimes you do a dumb and lift a frame of new comb that breaks, but you learned. Can't believe you're coming up on your 5 year anniversary of beekeeping. Keep on keeping on.
Putting the patties directly over the brood nest will help to increase the rate of consumption And when it’s time to buy more, look into Global Patties with 15% pollen. I have been testing them against Ultra Bee and the bees prefer the Global. Randy Oliver published a very good comparative analysis of patties in ABJ. Global was top performer.
Congrats Jim 100,000 whoo-hoo! Your Videos are all so informative. Great informative videos are the ones I seek out on UA-cam. You totally deserve all the subscribers you get. We all understand making this type of really good content is very time consuming and when you have a busy life, sometime it takes a week or so to gather up enough content to post. Still we look forward to each and every post you can put up because we know it's going to be thoughtful, fun, well presented, entertaining as well as exceptionally informative. Were in it for the enjoyment of the ride Jim...not just the destination. Keep it up!
Yeah, my bees don't touch pollen sub when there is "real" pollen available. I put pollen patties on last weekend. Good luck this year.... may your swarms stay close and your supers be full 😀
100K!!! That is a SLAMMING subscriber hive, Jim! KEEP FEEDING US WITH MORE KNOWLEDGE AND VIDEOS!!!! DO NOT SPLIT US! YOU ARE A GREAT SUBSCRIBERKEEPER WE ALREADY HAVE A BARN! A VINOF... BARN!
Honestly, I’m not a bee keeper, I don’t aspire to be. I’ve even tried watching other bee channels and I just can’t, I just find the way YOU do it absolutely fascinating and your videos are really enjoyable!! I haven’t missed a video in years and I’ll continue to always watch!!
From sourdough and bread baking to home renovation and beekeeping. You have been a pleasure to watch and learn from. Thank you for all your hard work and enthusiasm 🤠! Well 👍🏼
Nice, bees are looking good. When the maples popover here it’s swarming season. Congrats on your 100k and don’t forget to share your reward from UA-cam….some plaque I think 🧐
Thanks! Will do! I just found out you actually need to request one and they need to review the channel to make sure it's in good standing. I always thought those things just appeared one day. I started the process and will definitely share when I get it.
You think outside the box i admire the fact you haven't just excepted things. When you put out plans for new bee barn I'm going to try them also congratulations on more than 100 thousand subscribers
So glad to see you hit the 100k mark! Well done! This was a great explanation video, you've become very good at knowing what people will notice and ask about and so now you deliver the answers with the intended content. Keep it up and you will become a Doctor of Reading People's Thoughts from Afar! LOL! Keep it up Jim, I always enjoy your content!
Dang it, get back on that solid, well-constructed, active beehive & do the Vino-In-Your-Face Happy Dance again for your haters... Then, I can laugh & laugh & laugh again for yet another week! Thanks for sharing
Congrats on 100k subs. I stumbled on your channel a few years ago searching for a little info about bees. Before you, I could not find content on how to start beekeeping. I've learned a lot from this channel and your content is very enjoyable. Thank you for sharing and bringing us along.
They also sell pollen powder. But I have found and experienced that they will eat it if there isn’t any other source but if it’s out in nature they won’t touch it! They know what they need
Thank you so much for your videos! New England bee keeping is a different ball game and people don’t understand. I used 2 inch foam this year to over winter. All my hives made it alive and are huge already compared to my tiny clusters last year! Can’t wait to get warmer weather.
Congratulations on 100k !!! i've been following your journey from 2018 and it has been a joy to watch you and your bee yard grow, i always look forward to your video. you and your family stay safe now !!
Makes me want to get into my hives…if it were not for the snow banks lol Question, why do you put the patty off to the side? Are you targeting the cluster?
Yes, thankful our snow is gone. Still waiting for a glimmer of warmth. I just didn’t want to smear bees when I put the lids back on! Do you think the 3 inches off to the side makes a difference?
I’m in your house so I don’t want to pollute your comments with my thoughts. Just curious on yours. But if you are asking, I notice that the bees do not move out of their way to consume any type of patty. They only ingest what’s exactly over them LOL. I don’t understand this behaviour because they will move to consume pollen stores on outside nest frames… Just thoughts
@@aCanadianBeekeepersBlog Say whatever you like, Ian. I guess I don't have as much experience with patties as you do (and never will!) but it seems like they're consuming them so far. When I'm in there next time, I'll try shifting them around and see if they go faster. I really just wanted to close the lids quickly since it was chilly and knew if I put them right on that pile of bees in the middle, they would take a minute to shift around before I could put the cover on. Another factor here is that my hive are so dang warm inside, the bees don't really cluster in a tight ball. they're moving to every corner of the hive. Maybe your bees don't go get your patties because your hives get colder up there? I've only used patties a couple times before, so I don't have a ton of experiential data and never before in these hot boxes.
Congratulations on 100,000 mate. Your vids always bring a smile to my face… been watching since you got the Russian bees and looking forward to the day I get my own hive… (one day). Keep on doing a grand job, entertaining and also educating the masses!
I love your videos! I have five hives in St. Louis, Mo. and have learned alot from your videos, so thank you! I was curious why you did not use your insulated top covers this winter, that you showed in the "I WAS WRONG (Better Beehive Winterization!)". Im referring to the all polystyrene black ones with the zip tape. Would that have not solved/helped with your moisture problem on the inner cover? Congrats on 100K!
The funny 🤣🤣🤣 thing is iam new in bee keeping and new in English too but i can understand u so good. U must be a good teacher. Thnx. By the way I am from Algeria . North Africa 🌍
I so enjoy your successes. I got out of beekeeping originally because of the demands of raising small children. Dabbled a bit but didn't get back in. But it's enjoyable to see your experiments. I might get back into beekeeping because of you. Keep up the great videos. Best.
Why would anyone assume that bees are lazy and wasteful? Insulation seems logical, conserving resources leaving a stronger workforce for the spring. I have a feeling that your summer will be fun. Great work.
Thank you for posting your adventures and experiments in bee keeping. I'm new to tending to bees and all of the experimental knowledge you provide is invaluable.
Please send out the final tweaks to the Barn hives. - I've got 3 of them half built in my basement and my wife is wondering why I'm not cleaning up my mess. :)
Hey Jim! Your bee barn seems like it will be perfect for my climate in north central Iowa. We have long cold winters like you and lately not much snow. I’m wanting to get going with my first hive this spring. I know you are still working on modifying the design to solve the moisture issue at the top before releasing the design to the masses which is great! Until then, can you at least make a video on how you made the deep+medium sized frames? I was thinking it would be good, even if the exterior insulation part isn’t done till this fall, I could at least get the bees started in those big frames and a deep + medium box. I currently have zero equipment and this would certainly influence my purchase coming soon. Do you think you’ll will have a bee barn 2.0 design ready for release by this fall?
Yes there’s so much quality knowledge, entertainment, attention to detail in information as to how and why stuff is done with these little girls. But it’s also so wonderfully pretty- the hives, the layout of the bed yard, the fens shui is awesome!!
Hey man i love your hives and the way you aproach this problem with optimum wintering but i was wandering if you ever thoat of makeing a horizontal hive version and wich wold be the problems and advantages with theat.
thank you for posting this. im starting my first hive this spring/summer and i live in upstate ny. it gets cold here around october early november and i have been worried about the hive because i am just learning all of this. thank you i hope you post more videos.
So far for the last 3 years my bees have missed my red maple tree's blooms. This year is no different. Sad. Local bees love that tree. I got a bunch of seeds so I'm planting a bunch of them on the southern side of my property
