If there is a white look like ashness that is called bloom/blooming. I received a small Florentine t-morow brown satchel that was really white looking. This is removable by heating the skin. I used a hairdryer set on high and blowdried the entire handbag. It worked perfectly. I still have my Florentine t-morow satchel and it has taken on a nice patina. I've had it for close to 2 years now and never had another problem. Hope this helps.

I love the pebbled gram bag it’s so nice either way the longer zipper. Florentine bags do get scratches I think it’s natural for the leather. I think both of them are gorgeous. The leather is really smooth too. My favorite Florentine backpack has as a bunch of scratches, conditioner helps. Tfs 💕

I received an ashy bag from Dooney some years ago. I conditioned it and it looked so much better. But I agree with you I don’t want no ashy new bag sent to me. And you shouldn’t have to condition a new bag. I’m sorry for the way it was sent you but once you condition them it will look so much better. But both bags to me looks good to me. I’m trying to figure out which one to purchase. And thank for the comparison with Coach Rowan and Dooney Barrel. Tfs😊😊

I will say i have received a dusty florentine stanwich satchel. I was hot but i hate returning things so i kept it. I’m glad I did because eventually it got a beautiful sheen to it.

TFS! I was so fortunate to get 2 of these for $149 last week. Can't wait for them to arrive. I got the natural and navy and am crossing my fingers. I do think conditioning will take care of the ashiness but I'm unsure about that weird circle on the one side of the black one

I just ordered the bag in bag. Florentine scratches easily, but it is my favorite of the leathers. I condition mine and am pretty much good to go. I don’t generally carry my Florentine bags in the summer. Try conditioning them. TFS

This is something that I am always preppring myself for with Dooney. It would really depend on how much I wanted the bag. Scratches I have learned to accept, but the circle would be the thing that get me. I think with some love they would be ok, but I don't know if I would want to do it. Hope that helps. TFS

TFS!!!!!!! Hey sis love your purchase these satchels are🔥🔥🔥🔥. I love both colors but yes they do look ashy and for a new bag they need to do better. I think ILD is for bags that have flaws so they sell for less then on DB site. I believe that these bag be setting in there warehouse collecting dust. Don't get me wrong I love DB bags but sometimes I think they don't do great quality control checks on there bags before they ship them out. I would send and hope they don't send you back the same bags.💚💚💚💚

That black bag has a couple of definite flaws, the strange round circle and the line of demarcation where part of it is darker than the rest. I’ve learned to relax with my Florentine when it comes to marks on the leather that are natural….which the red bag seems to have but nothing too bad. I’d keep the red and send back that black and hope for a better one. Good luck, I have a Chestnut one coming my way so fingers crossed!

Send them back... I know the feeling. I ordered a florentine tote from the ebay ILD and had instant buyers remorse. It was so scratched up. Smaller than I thought it would be too... I didn't return it and I never use it now.

My recent red Florentine bag was dry and almost faded. I ended up returning it. I’m hoping the new bag I ordered is richer and more red (not orange) 🤞🤞🤞. Great video! ❤

My recent red florentine baguette from the recent sale went back for the same ashiness problem and scratches on backside. Very weird. Waiting on the new one to see if it is better.

The white overlay / ashiness look is referred to as bloom/blooming. This can be removed easily with a hairdryer set to a high heat blown over the handbag until all is removed. I have done this on a previous Florentine satchel in the color t-morow brown. I've had my satchel for about 2 years now and love it. It has a nice patina now and I have never had another issue.

Hiiiiiii I received my Florentine black barrel today and mine is 45 of 95 and it’s ashy like your and mine is textured more thabk your black… my iPhone 15 pro max does not fit the back pocket

I just got the black and it looked the same. Sent it back as the front and back panel were completely different black hues, and has the white overlay. Very frustrating as the shape is wonderful.

Ola Maye, so sorry about the condition of your Florentine Satchels. I hope you were able to return them without any issues. I would return it. A new bag should come in new condition. A lot of the contemporary brands are putting in plastic zippers. I don’t like that. Yes, I can see the line. If I had to choose between the pebbled grained and the Florentine, I would choose the pebbled grained.

I'm new to the Dooney bags....I ordered a red Florentine bucket bag...but when I watch the Florentine reviews there is always so much anxiety about dryness and scratches..and the reviewer is hoping they received a good specimen...I can't wait til my bag gets here Friday so I can have some perspective..also wondering if it was manufactured in Mexico

I understand that some leathers will show skin imperfections. While some people like that, I don't. I prefer pebble grain. That circle on the black one looks like a large scratch. The red one was full of natural skin imperfections. I am way too OCD to tolerate skin imperfections and scratches on a new bag. I would send them both back.

I know the line marks and little dot markings are a natural part of the cows hide, it’s from like scars and such the animal sustained while alive. So it can be understandable. However, for the price, they could’ve chosen better leather. If it’s going to be poorer quality leather they should be selling with that disclaimer and also at a much more discounted price.
Ashy dryness can be fixed with conditioner but isn’t Dooneys whole ordeal that their leather doesn’t need to be conditioned? I swore I read that on their details description section.
That odd circle mark on the black one is unacceptable though.
I think the red looks decent and I would keep it but the black, probably not.
But given the dryness of both, you might as well return both. I see EVERY single line and mark you pointed out. My philosophy, if it’s gunna bug you so much that you won’t grab for it and be in love, just return or it’ll sit in your closet.

Wow - here are the words that comes to mind - Disappointing Unacceptable - I would ship them right back. Something not right about those bags. Sorry. I expect more from Dooney. I see they added some colors, but I am weary to pull the trigger on this batch of bags. You shouldn't have to get bags to clean them.
