I have had my Hyundai i10 since purchased new in 2010. The vehicle has been quite faultless. Still has the original exhaust. I have driven over 2 million miles professionally in all types and makes of vehicles. Undoubtedly one of the best vehicles I have ever owned.
Yes, if you watch the Chops Garage channel, you will see that James swears by these. If this one had just enjoyed a clutch adjustment to make it a bit less stiff, then it would have been much better! They seem to be incredibly reliable on the whole.
I think these are great cars for the money. I bought one new in 2012 and apart for an intermittent problem with the lights in the dash which was eventually sorted, (it became an known problem apparently), it's still in the family going strong and it's aged really well. The facelift lost it's temperature gauge but gained a USB socket. Lovely review Joseph.
Yes, firmly in No Budget Reviews territory now. You did get a USB port, a slightly better engine on the 1.2 and some other changes on the facelifted cars from what I understand. Wonderful to hear that your old one is still going strong!
I bought one of the last original i10 Active's back in 2013 for my wife as a commuter car, it was a showroom ex-demo and the mk2 i10 was just coming in to replace it. It's now 9 years old and has done 65,000 miles. Really it's never missed a beat until last month when it started leaking coolant from the thermostat housing (£440 repair bill). It's cheap to run, cheap to tax and insure, it's well equipped for such a little, cheap car. With 85ps it's actually quite go-karty to drive (and I have a Lotus Elise so I know what that means). It's remarkably practical too. Easiest way to describe it is that it does what it says on the tin. I have serviced it myself for the past 4 years or so since the warranty ran out, easy to access everything, no problems. Agree that the steering wheel, as the main touch point, could have been leather wrapped rather than hard plastic, but everything else is fine. The crazy thing is that now, with second hand car prices like they are, the car is currently worth £2.5k+. Considering we paid about £9k for it brand new, I don't think £6.5k depreciation in 9 years is too bad at all :-D.
Thank you for watching and commenting! At the time of recording this, you could still pick these up in reasonable condition with an MOT for under £1,000. However, as you say, the market has gone absolutely crazy in the last year or so, and now these are largely no longer in No Budget Reviews territory. I don't know whether the i10 has a plastic thermostat housing, but if it is, then it joins the ranks of all the other cars (of which I have owned two from different manufacturers) which have problems when those decide to leak.... That steering wheel was not very nice, but then these were built to a price, and they have comparatively few reliability problems, so I suppose you can't complain too much, can you? I didn't like the clutch on this particular car, but I think that was down to the clutch cable, cable clutches can be really good if they are working correctly.
@@lloydvehicleconsulting I've had an 09 1.2 style for over 6 yrs very reliable, could do with a little more power , fuel consumption for my 57k mile car is between 36 & 40 only getting to the 50's on longer journeys .
Had the pleasure of driving a 1.2 active when my Chevrolet Aveo was being serviced at the local dealership, about a decade or so ago now, I remember at the time thinking it was quite lively but both interiors were incredibly low rent, and although the i10 was smaller, it somehow felt a slightly better package than the Aveo. However my Aveo served me well, as I put 40,000 miles on it in two years at that time I was doing so much mileage I then bought the 308 with forbidden fuel, which I've recently sold. I think I can safely say though that i10 was the best courtesy car I've had even to do this day. Another great review, and certainly should be on the radar of any newly qualified driver, as they can be had for peanuts, and cost about the same to run and insure.
I definitely need to get a Kalos/Aveo on No Budget Reviews somehow, sir! They are starting to get reasonably rare now. Not sure if one is better built than the other, the Aveo certainly did have a bit of a low rent interior. The i10 is probably a bit cheaper to run than the Aveo, to be honest. I hope that you are enjoying your new car!

The Kalos as they age seem to suffer with rot in the sills, although did not see this with the Aveo, but perhaps they are still a bit too young. Mine was quite a strange spec the S base model but a 5dr, where as the vast majority were 3dr. I'm certainly loving life with my new car. Would a 17 plate Meriva be of interest to you, I wonder for a sensible second hand review?

We owned one. It was a 2013 Hyundai I10 1.2 Classic (base model) we bought it brand new. It was pretty basic no remote central locking and so on. We sold it 2 years ago
I've had several of these as holiday hire cars overseas. I believe they had a 0.9 engine (originally made for the Indian market) which struggled a little uphill with the aircon on. Really basic version with full wind-up windows and no central locking, but quite fun when you work the gearbox. My sort of car really.
Oh sir, it would either be the 1.0 or 1.1, there was no 900cc version, even on the Indian market. Anything other than a 1.2 was a bit slow, though. I imagine that they did make some very basic ones for the hire car market.

Last car I hired from him, I wondered why the windscreen washers didn't work. Opened the bonnet and couldn't find the bottle. He'd removed it because it leaked. Didn't stop the car getting it's Certificate of Fitness (MoT) though.

I was one of the scrappers in 2009. I'm 6 foot 3, 18 stone and I found it one of the roomiest cars I have ever owned. Great little car and I could get it into parking places other cars just couldn't. Cheep to run, tax and in just about every way.
Yes, a surprisingly easy car to park, and certainly very spacious for the size. Very cheap to run, and if you adjust the clutch cable properly, it is not as stiff as the one in this car.
It would seem that standard air conditioning across the range was the sale sealer in 2009 with the scrappage. The 2009 Kia Picanto 1.0 litre was cheaper in plain white but only had a 3 year warranty in the first half of the year. However there was no clock, no central locking, 4 seats only and definitely no air conditioning. At the time this class and this price point was very basic, crude even and limited in choice. Thus Hyundai i10, the Picanto and the Fiat Panda 1.1 were unique in offering very practical and comfortable family transport. Citroën C1, Toyota Aygo, Peugeot 107 and Chevrolet Matiz were very small for family use with boot space for carrier bags only. The VW Fox was 3 door only so, no. The Suzuki Alto and Nissan Pixo are good alternatives though not as well equipped as the Koreans. Fair play to the Korean partners for taking advantage of the Scrappage Scheme. All of the European Manufacturers had the opportunity to adjust their prices and actually sell new cars but they were greedy and Hyundai made a killing.

Unfortunately, some later models did come with wind up windows in the back. The i10 and Picanto were indeed very good value, especially when the five and seven year warranties respectively started to come in. The C1/Aygo/Matiz/Spark/107 were probably not as good as one of these. I should probably try an Alto or a Pixo at some stage to see how good they are.
Ive got a 2011 i10 paid £2800 for it only a few weeks ago as sadly car prices are super expensive at the moment my one dont have remote central locking or front fog lights but has electric windows and the AC , to drive its ok in a straight line but awful round corners as the wheels are way too skinny
That's actually a very good price for one of those at the moment. As I have said many times before on the channel, small petrol cars are one of the only market segments which have not seen a significant fall in prices over the last couple of months.
Very much the evolution of Hyundai/Kia into a viable mainstream option/competitor. Also very much my cup of tea very capacious for a 6 footer and function over form whilst still being attractive despite its dimensions. As you mentioned sir a scrappage scheme hero with the fetching shades over £6000 brand new at the time
That's right, sir! Definitely a better car than the Amica or Atoz, but the next generation of i10 was significantly better, as is the current one, of course. They were indeed very cheap when that old £2000 scrappage scheme was taken into account, many of them were bought that way.
Good little car, I like the Dash, reminds of a Honda Jazz or civic of the early 2000’s. The cable operated clutch in use isn’t as smooth over time, but if it’s adjusted correctly at a service or thereabouts it should be fine, they are more DIY friendly for replacement as well, a lot of hydraulic ally operated clutches although being nicer to use can be a total pain to replace when they fail.
Yes, I reckon this car could have done with a clutch adjustment. It wasn't great when I drove it. Mr Coleman is very good at getting the clutches just right, even if they are cable operated.
@@lloydvehicleconsulting Yes I can imagine he is! Think I’ve mentioned before my old MGF 1.8 had a hydraulic clutch, but the slave cylinder(which failed once) sits near the top of the clutch bell housing so not such a nightmare to replace.

Nice little car, good to see how reliable they seem to be. Am I the only person in the world who actually prefers a cable-operated clutch? I can't stand "modern" hydraulic clutches and their tendency to have a wide distance between bite and fully-engaged, I prefer the snappy feel and heavier weight of an old fashioned cable.
Well, perhaps some people may prefer the cable clutches, particularly on lower mileage cars, but this particular cable clutch helped to give me temporary sciatica on the left hand side of my body, so I am not really a massive fan of them, to be honest.... The rest of the car isn't bad at all, although that cheap plastic steering wheel was absolutely horrible.
Enjoyed the review. 85hp in such a small car I would imagine would be most pleasing. My Rover 111 had a mere 56bhp , but shifted along nicely . The 1.4 versions of the Metro/100 have been described to me as 'flying machines ' by a number of people that I know have driven one. Is the Kappa unit quite characterful ? Does it reward you when exploring higher RPMs like the K-series would with its wonderful sound and linear power delivery? I'd love to see yo do a review of the 2015-20 i20 .
Thank you, Craig! We are actually going to have a second generation i10 on the channel. I think we may even have two of them coming... The 1.4 103 bhp K-Series in a Metro is a good deal of power, it's not even that bad in a Rover 45, to be honest. The i10 was very nippy, but I didn't like that cable clutch! The Kappa I in this is a bit different from the Kappa II which is still being fitted to Kias and Hyundais these days.
@@terrificspokesman7416 , they seem to be a bit more of a mixed bag than they initially seemed, the clutch on the one I drove really was unexpectedly stiff, but they are probably better than a Suzuki Alto/Nissan Pixo.
Inoffensive little box on wheels, the main beneficiary of Gordon Browns idiotic scrappage scheme that took so many of our wonderful older cars of the road for good .
It's one of these things that was a bit mixed, really, and we don't really need to go into the finer detail of it here. It was amazing just how popular these were at the time.

I always liked Hyundai.but i’m still not agreed with Hyundai Europe that they chooses to be different than Hyundai North America. Usa still have the sedans like the accent and Elantra. With the original names. Like we also had before. But Hyundai europe choose to be different with the i10 i20 and i30. No sedans but hatchbacks. And completely different styles 90s Hyundai were the best!
Yes, Hyundai and Kia in North America have quite different line ups. Don't know why they altered their naming scheme so comprehensively... Yes, no saloons remaining in their European lineup any more.

It was a sedan. It had our mk 1 yaris dashboard. And it was a yaris underneath. But it was a sedan . We didn’t had it

Oh and be careful of hire car companies , my old colt was destroyed in an accident hence why i bought a new car and the courtesy car i got when i returned it they said i didnt top the fuel up but i did , lucky for me i took a video as evidence before giving it back , Enterprise was the company very dodgy people they are tried to take my card details when i first got the car but i refused as it didnt seem ethical to me.
Yes, wasn't too keen on the cable clutch in this car. No rust on this one, but funnily enough the first generation i20 from 2012 that I tested for Sensible Secondhand Reviews earlier this year did have a rusty tailgate.

Does it reward you when exploring higher RPMs like the K-series would with its wonderful sound and linear power delivery? I'd love to see yo do a review of the 2015-20 i20 .
Thank you, Craig! We are actually going to have a second generation i10 on the channel. I think we may even have two of them coming... The 1.4 103 bhp K-Series in a Metro is a good deal of power, it's not even that bad in a Rover 45, to be honest. The i10 was very nippy, but I didn't like that cable clutch! The Kappa I in this is a bit different from the Kappa II which is still being fitted to Kias and Hyundais these days.

Saying that my friend had one but it gave many problems with quality
@@terrificspokesman7416 , they seem to be a bit more of a mixed bag than they initially seemed, the clutch on the one I drove really was unexpectedly stiff, but they are probably better than a Suzuki Alto/Nissan Pixo.
Inoffensive little box on wheels, the main beneficiary of Gordon Browns idiotic scrappage scheme that took so many of our wonderful older cars of the road for good .
It's one of these things that was a bit mixed, really, and we don't really need to go into the finer detail of it here. It was amazing just how popular these were at the time.

Hello Sir , Not all these I10's have rear disc brakes with the 1.2 engine , I think they were made in both India and Turkey .
That's probably right, the modern i10s are most certainly made in Turkey.
Going on my own experience, they’re a good little car.
I own a 2017 i10SE 1.0, coincidentally my car is also silver metallic.

I always liked Hyundai.but i’m still not agreed with Hyundai Europe that they chooses to be different than Hyundai North America. Usa still have the sedans like the accent and Elantra. With the original names. Like we also had before. But Hyundai europe choose to be different with the i10 i20 and i30. No sedans but hatchbacks. And completely different styles 90s Hyundai were the best!
Yes, Hyundai and Kia in North America have quite different line ups. Don't know why they altered their naming scheme so comprehensively... Yes, no saloons remaining in their European lineup any more.
@@lloydvehicleconsulting north america does have the same kia Rio but in a sedan version. To me it looks like more car and less a city car. Same with the first toyota yaris. They had the Toyota Echo. It was a sedan. It had our mk 1 yaris dashboard. And it was a yaris underneath. But it was a sedan . We didn’t had it

Hyundai's City car models look nicer and nicer with each generation. The Atoz from the late 1990s was quite ugly but the current i10 is very pretty.
Yes, the current i10 is rather nice, isn't it? The Atoz certainly was a bit visually challenged, I must admit.
Oh and yes i hate the cable operated clutch it feels so stiff to operate and is very heavy , some people said to me fit a new clutch cable but im on my own no budget review too LOL cant be spending out hundreds on a cheap i10 lol
I remember the clutch cable in this particular i10. It was absolutely horrible.
I felt that this car is bigger than a Peugeot 107 on the outside.

I don't think I even looked for the secret tray, to be honest! Always surprised how many views this video has had.
Oh and be careful of hire car companies , my old colt was destroyed in an accident hence why i bought a new car and the courtesy car i got when i returned it they said i didnt top the fuel up but i did , lucky for me i took a video as evidence before giving it back , Enterprise was the company very dodgy people they are tried to take my card details when i first got the car but i refused as it didnt seem ethical to me.
There are many worse hire car companies than Enterprise, believe me...

I had a 2013 model suspension faults clutch judder and rust it was built in India Korean built Hyundai,s are better
Yes, wasn't too keen on the cable clutch in this car. No rust on this one, but funnily enough the first generation i20 from 2012 that I tested for Sensible Secondhand Reviews earlier this year did have a rusty tailgate.
Don't like the styling or the fact the gear stick is high up! Otherwise it doesn't look like a bad car for the money
The clutch wasn't great in this one. Prices have risen a lot in the last two and a half years since I filmed it too.
@@lloydvehicleconsulting I've been looking, the kia picanto 2nd generation is so much better looking but way more expensive, you can get a really inexpensive i10 in OK condition even now

The engine is actually more than adequate for the size and weight of the car, I just didn't like that clutch, so would probably have to have an automatic one. The looks are a subjective thing, but I do understand what you mean! Glad you enjoyed the video.
