I had the same result with Garnier, too. I found out they're owned by Maybelline and I'm allergic to their makeup, so I always figured that was why, but now that I'm seeing so many people say they had the same result I think it's just a garbage product.
Garnier pink micellar water did not dry me out badly and I thought it was ok, until I tried out Bioderma pink micellar water and I realized just how much Garnier pink micellar water was drying me out in comparison.
On the ingredient list it contains Alcohol Denat, which is known to be drying in certain formulations. I was not attracted to Garneir’s micellar water partly because of this.
@@HA13370 She said she can use the Garnier one ... I buy bioderma online for around 6 euro per 500 ml. I wouldn't buy it full price 🤫 and since I don't use it everyday it lasts for ages. I prefer to use oil and cleanser if I wear makeup or sunscreen... 😉
I love Bioderma too! I first bought a tiny bottle from a pharmacy in France when I ran out of Garnier, and never looked back. It’s 100 times better for my skin and definitely worth the price.
The Avene and the La Roche-Posay micellar waters are really nice and gentle too. I have mild rosacea and super sensitive skin and they work great for me.
Omg i wrote a comment saying i also tried avene and Lrp. Good for you that they work well for your sensitive skin! Unfortunately it stung my skin quite a bit when i used them 😵
Get the Bioderma in the blue lid if you are dry to normal. It’s got focused ingredients for extra hydration. Been a Bioderma fan for years. Like since 2016.
I was going to write the same thing. I been using bioderma for around 8 years now and tried the blue because it was out of stock so I bought the blue one and I definitely prefer that one.
The blue lid bioderma smells like baby wipes. I didn't like it. I bought it many years ago though so I don't know if they changed their scent since. The green lid smells nice but I'm no longer oily skin. Pink is now my go-to.
The garnier waterproof Micellar water in the blue bottle always worked way better on my skin for some reason and seemed more gentle but was better at removing makeup. Doesn’t sting my eyes or skin at all even when wearing contact lenses. The Bioderma one is great but I just couldn’t justify the price for something like that that I go through pretty quickly.
I remove my makeup with olive oil mixed with a little castor oil. Works like a dream. I also moisturize with jojoba oil. That's my entire beauty routine at 43. My skin started looking clear and even af within a week or 2 of stopping all other products 😁.
I like the oil infused Garnier micellar water, I find that removes make up - especially around the eyes - so much easier with less irritation compared to the other versions from the same brand.
I may try this one...I don't wear mascara often but I have extra rows of lashes (it's not cute, they poke in all directions but mostly grow straight so I just get a bit more eyelid Def but they shrink my small eyes). I have to use liner at this age to get any true eye definition, and it gets trapped in the lashes, even harder to remove than mascara. I have a wonderful liner collection tho, and maybe Garnier will break it down.
@@montananerd8244 wow I’ve never heard of anything like that before! Is it genetic? Does either of your parents or family have this too? Very interesting:)
@piXie23 my mom has an additional set of lashes but it's not what you think lol, they grow above her natural lash line and look crazy, she plucked them for years before they just stopped growing in.
I really like bioderma too. It melts off the products so much more efficient comparedr to Garnier, which means less wiping and rubbing. I kept the Garnier pump bottle thought because that is hella convenient. 😁

@Robert you have to try the Simple Micellar water if you can find it in that UK. The one in the blue bottle (Hydro boost) is better than the original green bottle but they are both amazing. I recommend it to everyone, I won’t touch another brand for micellar water or face cleanser. It won’t sting your eyes at all, doesn’t make the skin tight, your skin just feels soft and clean. It’s so unbelievably underrated, I hear no one ever talking about it. Incredible for sensitive skin. I switched to Pond's cold cream for makeup remover. It's gentle, emulsifies water-insoluable make up, and is a quarter the price of other cream cleansers
I changed the disposable wipes for washable ones which are less scratchy. Saves my skin so much. Never thought about changing the miscilair water. I think I have found the best combo now. Thanks Robert!
Which washable ones do you like? I bought the Burts bees wipes with micellar water in them for traveling. I don't usually like disposable things, if I can help it, but they were convenient.
@Dineen Serpa not the person you asked, but I also switched over from disposable to washable some time back. They were Judy purchased off of Amazon, nothing special. It didn't take me very long to find what I was looking for and I bought 2 sets of 20 rounds. If they get stained and that bothers you, try some Oxiclean. Took my stains out except on the threading on the edges. I wash and dry my rounds in a small delicates bag to keep them contained.
@@theroyalbugness I always just hand wash them in the sink right after using and then let them air dry in mesh bag that hangs from a rack in my bathroom. I always use Garnier Micellar water for removing makeup. Yes, bioderma is really good, but it's not widely available where I live. Thankfully I never had any problems while using Garnier.
Where I am (midwest US; city with population of one million people) I can't find Bioderma anywhere, either, and if I'm going to shop online, I'm getting a quality K- or J-beauty cleansing water rather than something like Bioderma! I've tried the water that Robert mentions as well as the Bioderma Hydrabio water, and both left me feeling a bit...greasy. Even though I use cleansing water strictly as a pre-cleanse--I never leave it on, and I always do a second cleanse--I still don't want a cleansing water that leaves me feeling less than clean. The Bioderma waters almost left the feeling on my skin of having just applied a dry oil! To be honest, I liked the few Garnier waters I've tried better than the Bioderma waters...different strokes for different folks 😋👋
Bioderma broke me out pretty consistently everytime i used it, which sucks cuz its more expensive i wanted it to change my life. using the blue garnier works fine for me
I have been wondering why my skin was so crazy dry and flaky lately... I thought it was either my NYX concealer or the Garnier water, and even though it didn't burn and I usually wash it away with regular water I had the feeling it was something alcohol-related. I still need to do some testing but by what I'm reading it might very well be the micellar water... Also because I was getting flaky on the cheeks too and that's not a place where I usually use concealer. Definitely going to buy another one.
Important note...you still have to use cleanser after you use it. To get the gunk off your face. I love Bioderma but it does not get my sweatproof Mascara of my lashes but in the end...nothing really does so its still a very good micellar water
Idk, I have naturally combo skin with dry spots on the cheeks, but the micellair water from garnier doesnt sting me on the face, eyes or emphasise my dryness. I have sensitive skin.
Exactly the same, Robert, exactly the same with me! I dislike Garnier because it not only stung my skin, but also caused tiny painful comedones (breakouts) all over my face. However, the Bioderma Sensibio Micellar Water (green cap instead of pink) is something I do use for my lips and eyes at times and it's real good! Clinique's Take the Day off Cleansing Balm is my go-to though, totally melts my makeup inside out. Recently tried the Green Clean Cleansing Balm from Farmacy, and it's so very good too! But way more expensive than Clinique which is already so pricey.
Have you tried the Glow Recipe Papaya Sorbet cleansing balm? It is my absolute favorite! It takes off my waterproof eye makeup, is gentle, non-drying, and rinses off well.
I started using the Bioderma after watching your brother's videos. I usually use it in the morning, and sometimes in the evening if I haven't gone anywhere and don't have loads of product and sunscreen on. I don't wear makeup unless on a night out, so can't speak for it's makeup removing abilities, but as a micellar water goes, it's definitely the best one I've tried out.
I used to use the garnier micellar water until I realised it contained alcohol. Simple micellar water is alcohol free, works brilliantly and is great for sensitive skin.
I use this to take makeup off with a reusable cotton round and that usually removes all of my makeup because reusable cotton rounds have a larger surface area. Then I go in with a second reusable cotton round to cleanse my skin sort of like a double cleanse and all of the gunk on my face is gone. Doing this doesn’t break me out. RINSE OFF THE MICELLAR WATER. OMG this changed the game for me when I started rinsing the micellar water off my face, because they’re always marketed saying “don’t need to rinse off.”
I bought them for the first time in france because i happened to be in france and it’s cheaper there (obviously lmao). I also got myself Avene and LRP. Other than that, i have tried garnier and probably nivea as well. Gosh, Bioderma is the goat when it comes to micellar water. I’m never using other brands!
Bioderma will be always the queen of micellar waters ! I tried other ones ( to save a bit money , but wasted money instead ) but they all hurt my skin as well !
You can also try oils, like jojoba or coconut. They break down make up so fast and they're super hydrating. Then just cleans normally, tone, moisturize, and use SPF.
Yes! I used to used plain coconut oil, but I'm still pretty acnegenic (even at 43 😑), so I had to find something else to use as a first cleanse. That's the *only* downside I found to using coconut oil as a first cleanse/makeup remover--it has a high number comedogenic score and it really seemed to break me out, even being on my face for only a few minutes. I really loved the way coconut oil broke down my makeup so quickly and easily, and the warmth from your skin very quickly turned it from a solid paste into a quite luxurious feeling, thin oil. A few years ago I switched to a cleansing cream by The Face Shop, and I love it.
I received a full size bottle of Bioderma in a Glossy Box over a year ago. I had another micellar water open, so it took me a while to get around to using it. I can't live without it now. I have slightly sensitive skin and the older I get, the more dry I feel. Bioderma for sensitive skin is my go-to micellar water. I am so glad to see it getting some praise and recognition. ❤
my skin kinda loves the Garnier micellar rose water : > Regular one suits me fine too. I've never had side effects like tightness or stinging/pain. Products sometimes work differently person to person - just like how beauty gurus 10 years ago loved lemon juice and st. ives apricot scrub but it ruined my skin LOL
Honestly with how prohibitively expensive nicer micellar waters are and how often they burn my skin anyways, I just recommend people use cold cream to remove makeup anymore.
omg yes i hated the garnier water. i think i unfortunately swore off miscellar water entirely just because of that and switched to cleansing oil. i might pick up some of this bioderma brand to spot check oil to keep in a travel bottle.
I've been using this stuff for like 10 years now, and I'll never stop using it. It's such a good product, and affordable too. One bottle lasts me a long, long time. One way to make using micellar water more eco-friendly is by using reusable cotton rounds (or better yet, bamboo or something more sustainable) that you can wash in the laundry. :)
I also noticed that using micellar water before applying a prescription like epiduo (benzoyl peroxide+ Adapalene) isn't a good Idea. I don't know if it's because removing makeup with it is a bit more drying & irritating than oilcleansers or if it's due to some of the surfactants remaining on the skin & makeing some sort of a reaction. I tried cutting on some time while traveling & it was a huuugeee mistake 😅
Bioderma is probably one of my favorite brands on earth. Their products are so gentle to my skin. There's no fragance, no irritation and when I use the moisturizers at night, my skin looks flawless the day before. The micellar water is no exception. It's truly fantastic. I don't like Garnier AT ALL. Their products for hair and skin are really irritating to me. I think one of their main problems is their fragance presence. Same with most of products from La Roche Posay wich i think they are trash.
i use the L'oreal micellar water it also wiped my makeup with no problem i only do natural makeup so i dont really know how it works with full makeup but i absolutely love it
I have tried Garnier, but the bioderma used to sting. I have used Simple now for years, it’s cheap and does the job as decently as a miceller water will. Let’s face the miceller water is never gonna take everything off.
I wanted to love this Bioderma micellar water, but it made my skin almost feel greasy. I never leave micellar water on, and I only use it as a 'pre-cleanse', not even for a double cleanse. I miss the I'm Unny (formerly Unny Club) micellar water that Amazon used to carry...it left my skin feeling hydrated but not greasy or oily, and clean without feeling stripped. I've tried a thousand cleansing waters, and I'm Unny always comes out above the rest.
I had the Garnier one and use to use it and never had a problem with it as a first cleans skin. Also if it sting it could be the fragrance cuz they had a blue cap one that is fragrance free. Another thing is I don't wear make up and heard the biodermer one is pretty good.
I found Thayer's witch hazel works even better than the micellar waters! It actually cleared my skin & moisturized my dry spots?!?! It was an accident so I used the witch hazel face spray on a wipe to remove my makeup until my cleaner came in.... I will now never use anything else. I don't know what's in that stuff, but Thayer's witch hazel face spray reduced my under eye puffiness more than any eye cream?!?! It's beyond ridic, and again I don't know how or why but give it a try, it's a miracle.
Garnier works great for me! I wash it off and since I have eczema, rosacea, and psoriasis I use heavy moisturizers. Tbh, I also can’t afford expensive so I’d best make it work.
I have seborrheic dermatitis and the Garnier one is the only thing I can put on my face without causing a rash, I tried the Bioderma one to compare and it did take off my makeup easier but it stung so bad and left my skin so dry. I like how the Garnier one is more slick and then I top it off with CeraVe moisturizing cream. I’m not complaining cause the Garnier one is significantly cheaper!
THANK YOU dear Robert ❣️🥰👍🍀 I use Garnier with the light/white Top with Rose-Water and the other One with the pink-red Top. I doesn't feel a real Difference. But If your Expierience is like as you said I will change my Micellar Water , too! Normally I do the 2 Steps Cleansing, Micellar I use only If I doesn't wear anything, only Moisturizer and SPF. And it works till now excellent. But If Bioderma is' better and more mild ....i will change to it!
@@mirandagarcia7866 nope I wear my contacts all the time. I clean them and put back into my eyes. I’m am not a glasses girl. So I need a mascara that’s going work with an all day contact user.
I was introduced to Bioderma back sometime between 2008-2010 by Pixiwoo (the sisters behind Real Techniques who were some of the OG beauty UA-camrs). I found it in my local drugstore and I’ve literally been using it (the one with the pink cap called SensiBio, specifically for sensitive skin, which is the same one in this video) for literally at least 12 years. My mom uses it too. It’s literally the only micellar water I’ll use. The general public, including myself, really didn’t know what “micellar water” was back then. Most makeup removers were either those oil ones you shake up or makeup wipes. This changed the game for me. It’s one of my holy grail products. It feels, looks, smells like water but soft and soothing water that gently cleanses skin and removes a good amount of makeup, oil, and dirt without being stripping or irritating in the least.. I’m so glad you love it too, Robert. ❤️❤️❤️
Agreed! I’ve tried to use garnier bc it’s cheaper many times but I always end up tossing it and going back to bioderma. Not another micellar water I’d prefer over bioderma :)
Its a little misleading to say Garnier micellar water does X and Y. It really depends which Garnier micellar water you're using. They do have a few different versions. I use the one with hyaluronic acid and it doesn't sting or dry out my sensitive, mature skin, even my eyelids. And it takes off waterproof mascara and liner.
I agree, I used Garnier too but my face felt like it was kinda burning a little and my eyes hurt. I got rid of it and used bioderma. It’s far less abrasive on the skin. It’s soft and gentle around the delicate eye area and leaves the skin soft and skin clean. I also don’t get breakouts after it. I always do a double cleans after a take make up off. Just to be sure I have it all off. I use cotton pads soaked in bioderma on my eyes first to break down the eye make up. Cotton buds to remove any eye make up left. You can really get in to the base of the eyelashes. I hate make up on my pillowcases lol 😂
I've been using Albolene. I didn't like it at first because it doesn't "melt" like a cleansing balm does. I stuck with it because it does the job, it's gentle, and it's affordable. A 12oz jar costs $20 usd and a little goes a long way. If you wear makeup daily that one jar will last you 6 months.
I actually don’t like micellar water but it might be because I’ve only used Garnier’s. I don’t like the oil film, guess it wasn’t supposed to be a “used alone” product. And it doesn’t work as well on my mascara, even when using the method of leaving it on the eyes for a bit on a cotton round before rubbing it off. And that I have to use more product to get a cleaner face.
Essano makes a nice rosewater one too. A cheaper alternative to bioderma or essano are the Pacifica ones, I've had luck with those as someone with dry skin.
What about for water proof mascara? I use Garnier’s oil infused waterproof makeup remover micellar. It works amazing at removing my mascara but it stings my eyes very bad.
The garnier one doesn't sting my eyes but it looks and feels less effective and leaves some sort of film behind. Bioderma is always my choice. I highly recommend the blue/green cap one, for oily skin, to use in the morning time.
Heh, I remember people telling me to buy the Garnier when it was all the rage but nope, familiar with how my skin doesn’t like their products. I find the Bioderma too oily, personally, but really love the Mizon probiotics micellar water. Just gotta find what works for your skin.
Bioderma is the GOAT! My personal fave is the Hydrobio line (blue lid), it's perfect for my rosacea sensitive and thirsty skin. It's also great for those low days when I don't have energy to do skincare. Garnier doesn't even remove eye makeup, it's just crap.
My older sister had great skin, but after using Garnier, i could see how harsh it was on her and the very slight burned and change of texture of her skin after using it.
I've had the same experience! The sensitive skin garnier micellar water burns when I used it! But the bioderma one never does. I love it. I looked at the ingredients and they are completely different products
Strange...but I bought one at the dollar tree a couple years ago that worked beautifully! I used it on a qtip and brush across my lashes then a clean qtip to remove remaining mascara. No Sting, burn, tightness. They sold out for a couple years. Diff brand there now and not sure if it's the same
Garnier dried my skin out terribly. Switched to the Bioderma and it’s like night and day.
Same!!
I'm not glad that we had the same bad experience with Garnier but I am glad to hear someone else say it and now I know they are not all the same. 🥰

I used to use the garnier micellar water until I realised it contained alcohol. Simple micellar water is alcohol free, works brilliantly and is great for sensitive skin.
Garnier gave me not just a pretty bad allergic reaction but also gave me chemical burns for Christmas! How thoughtful of it 🥰
Bioderma has a great product line
I use this to take makeup off with a reusable cotton round and that usually removes all of my makeup because reusable cotton rounds have a larger surface area. Then I go in with a second reusable cotton round to cleanse my skin sort of like a double cleanse and all of the gunk on my face is gone. Doing this doesn’t break me out. RINSE OFF THE MICELLAR WATER. OMG this changed the game for me when I started rinsing the micellar water off my face, because they’re always marketed saying “don’t need to rinse off.”
Thank you for the tip.
Bioderma is simply the best! So gentle on sensitive skin and it takes off eye make up and sunscreen so well! Love it!
The blue bioderma for sensitive skin never gets the attention it deserves
I use Bioderma in the blue bottle. Best one ever!
I use Garniers Rose Micellar water as a toner
Just like dat you look absolutely perfect without makeup
I stopped wearing makeup for a while become I despised removing it at the end of the day. Bioderma changed all of this. It's a lifesaver.
I love the Bioderma one, it's very gentle. ❤
my skin kinda loves the Garnier micellar rose water : > Regular one suits me fine too. I've never had side effects like tightness or stinging/pain. Products sometimes work differently person to person - just like how beauty gurus 10 years ago loved lemon juice and st. ives apricot scrub but it ruined my skin LOL
What! James didn't give you one from his stash 😂❤❤❤Love Bioderma and the MW from Cosrx is very nice too.
This product changed my life. I suffered so bad with dry eye then I found this and I haven’t had bad eyes for years now. Love love love bioderma ❤️❤️
Honestly with how prohibitively expensive nicer micellar waters are and how often they burn my skin anyways, I just recommend people use cold cream to remove makeup anymore.
Thanks for the recommendation
omg yes i hated the garnier water. i think i unfortunately swore off miscellar water entirely just because of that and switched to cleansing oil. i might pick up some of this bioderma brand to spot check oil to keep in a travel bottle.
IDK if it's the same recommendation, but my Cleo-T actually recommends to apply to face when slightly dampened from a toner 🤷♀️
Bioderma is the best. I have used it for about 5 years now and I’ll never go back. So gentle and it gets everything off.☺️
For me the bioderma really stung my eyes , but the garnier doesn’t sting at all
Bioderm is excellent. No stinging, greasy residue, blurry eyes due to oiliness. Thanks!!!
Love bioderma products, recently diagnosed with psoriasis and it’s so gentle.
i use the L'oreal micellar water it also wiped my makeup with no problem i only do natural makeup so i dont really know how it works with full makeup but i absolutely love it
I have tried Garnier, but the bioderma used to sting.
I thank Costco for introducing me to Bioderma by selling it in a humongous size. It is the best micellular water I’ve tried. It’s great.
@@beingashope yesssss you get it! Garnier also does my waterproof mascara the best. I work 12-hr nursing shifts. My makeup gotta be steel. Lol
Love it 💞💞
I found a huge bottle of this at costco once! I love it for removing my eye makeup that way glitter and mascara doesn't get in my eyes as much.
THANK YOU dear Robert ❣️🥰👍🍀
I use Garnier with the light/white Top with Rose-Water and the other One with the pink-red Top.
I wear contacts and the biggest issue I have with micellar water or a cleansing balm. It ends up making my contacts blurry..
Wait you don't take your contacts off before removing your makeup?? 😳
I actually started with bioderma and it stung my eyes, and was a bit harsh on my skin. La Rochay Posay has a micellar water that's much better.
The pink Bioderma is my ride or die.
I'd love to try Bioderma. Unfortunately, they aren't cruelty-free 😢
Burt’s Bees micellar water is great too! I love that stuff
LOVE bioderma micellar water!! It’s the OG!! I have dry skin so I always grabbed the hydrating one :)
I prefer bioderma as well, it’s the only one that can get in my eyes and not sting.
Same, Bioderma is my OG
I'm definitely looking for it! I can't stand the micellar water you showed with a pink top. I've also tried Tarte micellar magic. It also burns 😢
I really like Niveas! It takes waterproof mascara off with zero irritation, and super fast! It doesn't dry out my skin, it's great!
The pink one does that to me too but the blue cap one removes makeup so much better and dirt and no ouch. Try it i promise you will love it.
I discovered bioderma when I vacationed in Paris some years ago and have been loyal since!
I've had the same experience! The sensitive skin garnier micellar water burns when I used it! But the bioderma one never does. I love it. I looked at the ingredients and they are completely different products
I remember you talking about this as what your lovin in the podcast lol
Strange...but I bought one at the dollar tree a couple years ago that worked beautifully! I used it on a qtip and brush across my lashes then a clean qtip to remove remaining mascara. No Sting, burn, tightness. They sold out for a couple years. Diff brand there now and not sure if it's the same
I've been using the one from Simple Skincare for ages, and it's my favorite ❤
They have the big ones at Costco! Love these
Omg I’m so glad you said this, I had no idea why it was stinging my eyelids! Thank you, thank you, thank you 🙏
