Actually, the interaction with objects in the interior and exterior is a really smart thing the developers of this video game did. It keeps you engaged longer and encourages you to explore everything around you, and I wish others did the same. I remember how Suikoden 2 was really cool because of things like that. Plus, you could enter every house. If you've noticed, the houses and buildings in most new JRPGs (Final Fantasy Rebirth, Eiyuden Chronicle...) are just background decorations. But there’s something magical about being able to talk to every NPC and search every room in their house-it simply makes the game feel much more magical and alive.

I'd love to replay this game. It was so hard as a kid! All I remember is fighting tornado enemies in a forest

The world map abstraction and encounter system were ahead of its time for this game, comparable to something like Tales of Graces, 10 years newer than Guardian's Crusade. The writing is quirky and strange, but simplistic, and was considered an "intact" translation in regards to humor and story spirit by the developers, a rarity for the time. The soundtrack is odd, but memorable. No PSX 3D graphics hold up well in 2018 but the colorful design is at least intact here, it's not straight up "ugly" like some PSX games are(you can tell I am an old head as I want to type "PSX" rather than "PS1", lol). The color choice goes a long way here, it never feels muddy.
It has early Dragon Quest style combat which isn't great, but the game doesn't require much grinding and can be completed quickly, which I appreciated when I replayed it as an adult. It is perhaps ironic that the features intended to appeal to children made the game less of a timesink for me when I played it again as a working adult. Overall the design of the game - the "heart" - holds up well, it does feel like a colorful toybox.

I've heard the original intent behind this game was that they wanted to make an introductory RPG for kids. Funny how lots of the stuff they did with it for that reason are now considered modern features.

this game stood out not because of the story but because of the innovative mechanics that most RPG during that time did not have. i can still remember most of the bgm from this game, and it's been over 2 decades.

While nothing mind-blowing, it's a extremely solid, fun romp through a traditional RPG in the good ol' days on PS1 I constantly go back to despite having PS1-5 and Xbox-Series X and all in between. Something to be said about these golden mid-late 90s years of RPGs. BTW without analog control you can still run, you just have to hold down TRIANGLE button, which is needed. But yeah, glad I own this still - good review man on a forgotten PS1 solid release. EDIT: No shit, the fairy does damage once in blue moon lol, I never remember seeing that yet!

I remember playing this. Can't remember if I beat it, but I used the assists a lot throughout. I remember having to learn through trial and error. Incredible soundtrack though. The overworld theme is really chill.

At the start, only Jupiter and Da Bomb will damage you if you use summon them, so you're wrong that ALL Living Toys damage you when you call them out. In fact, for the boss fight against Galestork. Your best call is summon out Pyro and Mr. O'Neal for damage then keep one slot open to repeatedly call out Nurse when you need healing

Realistically, this was a "my first rpg" sort of game. It'll always have a special place in my heart for that reason.

You have some interesting feedback on this game!
I was watching this because I personally love the game, but as a developer ourselves you have some good things to keep in mind.

Thanks for the review. I have this game since PS1 days, but I never got too far. I didn't even got Baby at that time. I believe I'll play it after watching your review.

I played this a lot then I was a kid. I remember that I got stuck in progression, I couldn't get past some sort of force field. I didn't know what I had I up do, as I didn't even speak English (the game was in English).

Ahh, a classic from my childhood. I love this game because is it just fun to play. It ditches a lot of bullshit which plagued the genre back in the day (random encounters, harsh difficulty which forces grinding and the use of a walkthrough). And the soundtrack is awesome. Yeah I know, the story is cliché stuff and the graphics has this weird playmobil-style, but I enjoyed it nonetheless. Thanks for the memories Fury.:)

This was the second game I ever beat and I've still got a whole lot of nostalgic love for it. Thanks for this video, I'm glad this game hasn't been _completely_ forgotten.
As for the bad naming, the title of the game was "Knight and Baby" in Japan >_>

They made us take PlayStations home in the early 2000s to play educational games on. We were borrowing them from the school and it was definitely an interesting idea but I ended up renting this game from blockbuster. I really liked it if I remember right but I didn't have a memory card to save.

It gets better the farther you go into the game.

Yeah the story has quite a bit going on towards the end and it ties together with the start

Couldnt agree more, unless you are willing to spend hours finding out what an enemies weakness is, an enemy you will probably never fight again, then you are forced to use very basic abilites i.e fight, defend, clericy, timeout, pyro and items, maybe viper every now and again but thats a bit of a risk. I got about halfway through and quit because i refuse to grind, or repeat sections after dying to some bs (2 x death-like skeletons, or confusion)

This game made me dizzy having to rotate the camera a lot and I found it easy to get lost in cities while trying to find all the items. I stopped playing after the 3rd city and just had enough of it. The music is nice though.

You ruined your review by complaining about the Dark Postle toy for way too long. There are some spells in this game that hit the entire party and there's nothing wrong with that. Experimentation is allowed by saving before trying out spells. You can negate these effects of the "All" spells by wearing something that reduces or negates its effect. For example there's a freeze all spell that turns the battle into a battle of attrition where no one can act until death from health loss. You can negate this and win every battle without a single attack this way by equipping an anti-ice ring. Also, all RPGs have a spell or two that serve almost no purpose or real use.
