      Pronunciation is intermittent at best but I'm happy to claim that there is no such thing as correct pronunciation, just current pronunciation, and even that is a fuzzy beast a lot of the time.
      I find the "correct" way pretty clumsy on my tongue and I lapse a few times but I'll keep trying to get it rooted in there.
      This was a cracking day, hard to take a bad shot in surroundings like this. Day 3 is even more spectacular! Edit coming soon for that one :)

      That's a very modern attitude to have regarding the rules of pronunciation, did Alan advise you on that...🤔😉
      I did notice a lapse but you've changed my way of thinking about regional variations in tongue, so I'll let it go.
      Looking forward to episode 3 🙂👍

      @@tonypaddler Its a funny thing because there are some things elements of language and pronunciation that really get me annoyed but then I remember that I also say things "wrong" to some people's ears and that it has always been and always will be this way.
      I've started watching a few linguistics channels and you soon realise there really isn't such a thing as right and wrong in spoken language and that kind of makes it all the more fascinating.

      It is indeed a funny thing, on my travels I've heard many pronunciations of the same word, including place names which I always assumed (still do up to a point) were rigid and exact (notwithstanding accents).
      I do believe that language is constantly evolving and long may that be so 🙂
      I too am fascinated by languages and the spoken word, I never thought about linguistics channels on YT, I shall seek one out.
      I've just had episode 3 playing but need to rewatch it due to a badly timed phone call.

    Epic! I agree about 'I just wanna ride my bike', I had a similar experience a few weeks ago with a bit of The Ridge Way, it all looks fine in theory, but where I was it was a lot of windy narrow bare earth tracks (which would be mud in wet weather) and steep slopes, tall bushes and trees really close on both sides (i.e., overgrown), so like if you balls it up you could be head-butting a tree or into a pile of nettles or thorns. There are supposed to be wider bits; I'm going to have to go back and persevere a bit more. 😁👍❤

    • @JethroJessop
      @JethroJessop  3 місяці тому +1

      The Ridgeway is a great ride in general (it's pretty local to me so I've done it in all weathers) but it does indeed get pretty sticky and overgrown in places. Rutted as well!
      If you can do it in the dry with clear skies it's lovely and you get some great views along the way.

    Thanks for allowing us to vicariously experience day 2 on the Cairngorms loop. The landscape, trail conditions, and variety of beautiful scenery were captured well by the cinematography. I particularly liked the choice of a guitar picking soundtrack while watching segments of trail, lush greenery, and vistas float by. As for the inner loop, cinematography did not convey the brutality of the slog, but your ending monolog surely did. Perhaps you should not have taken Woodie's advice and instead bailed to the outer loop when you had the chance. One is left wondering whether you and Woodie will still be on speaking terms in day 3.

      Its hard to film hard days because the hard bits are mostly slow and dull and don't make for great shots. And although it was hard it was actually a beautiful ride and I shouldn't rally have slammed it as hard as I did.

    Thank you for showing the beautiful views, orchids, carnivorous plants, adder, etc of this highland where I don't think I'll ever ride my bicycle 😊
    BTW my sister said me (several times) my front panniers are too large, they should be smaller than the back panniers ... But I see your friend riding with only front panniers (the same yellow Ortliebs I have as back panniers) and almost nothing at the back! I wish my sister would want to watch it (but she doesn't like 'social media', which for her includes youtube).

    • @JethroJessop
      @JethroJessop  3 місяці тому +1

      I think it depends what kind of riding you are doing. Woodie did say that he had problem controlling the steering on the very technical bit because of the weight on the front. In general though it probably doesn't make a massive difference.
      When I used panniers front and back I always had the smaller ones at the front but I don't think I had a solid reason for that, it was just the way it happened.

    Great post Jethro, really enjoyed this post..and fresh fallen snow is my new favourite peice of music on ur channel, very reminiscent of a spaghetti western theme..loved it.
    The music really complements the photography and that mix of jovial banter and beautiful aesthetics was a pleasure to watch, and a gud vibe.
    After having a crack at the Badger Divide myself, it's amazing over that unforgiving Scottish terrain just how heavy the bikes become with camping gear fastened to them, so very, very different to road or gravel tracks.
    Anyway, as I said previously, great post..one of my favourite of your entire (fantastic) catalogue. Looking forward to the next episode!😁👍

      I know what you mean about the weight adding up. It just creeps up on you doesn't it?
