Los Campesinos!: NPR Music Tiny Desk Concert
Вставка
- Опубліковано 29 вер 2024
- Los Campesinos! usually performs with as many as eight members -- the group needs that many to reproduce the mightily clamorous ruckus heard on its records -- but only four Campesinos are present here. And while there's no nudity or violence in this performance by the whip-smart U.K. band, the group's bawdy, often sexually suggestive lyrics make this the closest we've come to a NSFW Tiny Desk Concert.

I'm a huge fan of Gareth's voice. He writes most of their lyrics actually. Their songs are so relatable. I cant wait for Hello Sadness to come out
Did you enjoy hello sadness?
@@ramenking3574 Amazing album
@@JordanRatcliff yep
i love hello sadness so much, i’ve only known los campesions for a year but they’ve saved my life. they’re starting tours again and i’m so proud
@@JordanRatcliffHello sadness is insane, i wonder how it felt to wait and listen as it newly released
So many backhanded compliments about Gareth's singing. He's amazing! And his voice barely changes be it live or recorded. 😊
been looking for a comment like this!
I don't know why there's criticism about it when it sounds exactly the way he does in the studio.
I always describe Gareth’s singing as ‘Brutalist’. It’s not supposed to be pretty, it’s supposed to be impactful and overbearing, something that makes los campesinos so utterly unique and wonderful
yup he won't win any awards. Doesn't want to though

He's like... Robert Smith combined with...? Billy Bragg maybe? I love his style.
Still probably my favorite Tiny Desk ever
Anderson pack did a pretty good one too. - but this one of the best
fantastic performance from a fantastic band. UNREAL songwriting.
edit: gareth looks like he needs to wee the whole time which is making me giggle but it is what it is
More to the point, he's one the best British lyricists currently writing. Most rappers don't sing, but are often judged by how well they string words together. Black metal lead vocalists don't sing, but what they do is good or bad on its own merits and in its own terms.
just a little over a month to go till i get to see em live for the first time. I! CANNOT! WAIT!
ronniemation Denver by chance?
Donnie J nope. los angeles
was it good?
@@the.boog.. yes!
@@ronniemation nice. haven't seen them live before but i adore their music, especially their first 3 albums
My favorite band for years! They were amazing live in SLC! Misery has never been so danceable! :)
I like the lead singer's style... this is great! it has a 'busking' feel to it
the boy who sings is really cool! his voice is nice
Always my #1 band
When people ask now, you should just say you're listening to The Peasants, so they keep their exotic flair.
I have the biggest crush on the fiddle player.
Anyone else on a little Los Campesinos rabbit hole after watching The Mitchells vs. The Machines?
Wait were they in it?
@@tidepinecone mhm, 2 songs were featured, broken heartbeats & death to los campesinos
yep
I watched this movie just for LC! songs
For real! I watched the movie and was so surprised to hear their songs 💀
What's the point of watching the video if you are just going to diss it?
can we talk about how pretty Gareth looks here
so true
really young LC! has my whole heart (so does them now but sTILL)
Gareth's just annoyed that no one wants to touch his chicken...
@Bman36 I agree - and he's a wonderful poet so who cares if he can hit every note?
WAAA los amoo, se la rifan
Phoebe waller bridge on the violin back there
As much as I love Los Campesinos! all I ever seem to do now is watch Kim.
Why they beep the word 🐓
Love Kim's hands.
englishman singning open mic scary but.......... is up to u
+Je Pe he's welsh not english
+Tacoma Pits their wikipedia page says they are not welsh en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Los_Campesinos!. Nice now am reading about xenophobia between welsh and english dam u google XD

I hate bands that write 'controversial' lyrics for a minute of fame. Do they hope the media attention ( for saying "cock" in a song) brings them the fame their musical skill never will. make your lyrics six year old friendly and you'll be huge in America. NO SINGING TALENT WHATSOEVER....you'll fit right in..tour w/ Britney.
u good now bro
It's almost as though swearing is a part of human culture, and using it right can make music more expressive.
Ratio
are you better now
i think it's called expression my guy
I can't believe this is a decade old and still slays
They might seriously be the most underrated band in history.
This performance is just so raw and real and I love it so much🫧
Gareth’s lyricism is something that got me super invested in Los Campesinos! besides the amazing instrumentals (especially in No Blues, in my opinion).
They’re just so great, I hope to see them live one day👍
Letters to Charlotte is one of their underrated songs
true
the npr ver is my first time listening to it and i just hummed the tunes after some time and decided to listen to it
now it's one of my favorites
yess especially the accoustic version like this one
gareth may not have the best voice in the world, but his song-writing is SPECTACULAR. every bit of it is either incredibly deep, incredibly clever, or both. the band is absolutely amazing too!! the harmonizing that the girls do during 'the sea is a good place to think of the future' is just beautiful and the incorporation of the violin really adds a unique touch. such an amazing band - i'm so glad they're still kicking!!
i love his voice
You gotta admire Gareth trying his best to make kim feel comfortable doing stuff like this.
She was very new to the group at this time IIRC
how can you not be in love with this band
Since I couldn't find the names anywhere else, here they are
Gareth David - Vocals
Tom Bromley
- Guitar
Kim David
- Backing Vocals
Harriet Coleman
- Violin
At least I think! 480p quality isn't helping lol!
are gareth and kim siblings?
@@ilypjm i think so
@@ilypjm yes
@@takeabodytotundra hi
okay i never expected acoustic letters from me to charlotte and The sea is a good place to think of the future to sound THAT good
these guys just doesn't disappoint
The sea is a good place to think about the future is my biggest trigger song. I listened to it at my absolute lowest. Why am I listening to it again?
Please take care of yourself!
Hey I know this was a year ago but I hope you’re doing well man. Please take care!
One of the most underrated UK bands. Fortunately have seen them all few times.
2:51 I love how when he sings the line of 'pressed your thumbs to her throat' he makes a little gesture and touches Kim's neck.
cant believe I discovered this band so late, im glad i found it all though
i love gareth's voice and his singing barely changes when in studio or live
The mannerisms that Gareth follows while singing are rather endearing in of themselves, even ignoring his singing and commentary
I love his voice idk what yall talkin bout, its so raw.
singing isnt about being the best, its about producing something that people want to hear. His voice is unique and sounds good with the music they are making
He is also really good
I love Gareths voice so much
I’m not a crier but when i met Gary 6 years ago my friend had to steady me. The mans a lyrical poet
Still listening to this every freakin' week.
So pure, so beautiful
Me too
Harriet is definitely one of my biggest inspirations for violin, i quit for a while and im getting back into it now finally :)
Absolutely perfect. I have no idea if they're the best band in the world, but they're my favorite.
This is my current roman empire
REAL
@dudemyhead He can sing. He can play glockenspiel and keyboard. What can you play? Are you supporting yourself by making music? Are you signed to a music label? Have you toured across the globe? No? Then shut up.
LOVE THIS SO MUCH !!!! Saw them twice in Houston, TX during this time. His singing is incredible
Gareth is a brilliant lyricist/poet.
That Whistler is badass!
I was going to yell, and curse, but then I realized this comment really just made me sad, because I realized that you didn't get it. He's not a good singer, but that's not the point. Everything he sings is imbued with passion and he really means what he's singing, and it's the not-quite-there-ness of his voice that hammers this home.
Wait till yr family leaves you in the gutter to die then play this.
God I love Gareth’s voice

revisiting this performance because it rocks. lets be real, if gareth sang beautifully all the time nothing would hit as hard as it does
what an underrated band...
this is so good i need to become them
hey can they so casually play this good
I lol'd hard at the lyric about post-rock; makes me wanna get the new record, loved Hold On Now, Youngster
i always go to revisit this. Such a pretty performance
I miss a few members but they're only getting better... No Blues is absurdly good. Can't wait for #6!
Broke Up in Amarante just made me more excited for Sick Scenes
Yeah agreed, they just get better, even tho I miss the old vibe they had when they where young and had more girls on the band.
Amazing version of "The Sea....
harriet campesino sing the chorus to letters from charlotte may be the most adorable thing ever.
Isn't that song meant to be about her?
i agree
Kim is so adorable!!!
In my top three favorite bands.

I miss the original Los campesinos
been a fan for 4 or 5 years now and FINALLY i can say i’m seeing the this month!! 17/02 gonna be one of my favourite days ever i seriously cannot wait
update: they were AWESOME!! was there for the new album announcement and it was incredible. as we were leaving, my dad, BEFORE WE'D EVEN LEFT THE BUILDING said we should see them again next time they play. they absolutely killed it. i have loads of videos and they were next level good and it shows. 🫶🫶🫶
How was it? I saw them in 2013 or so as the opening band for Harvest Festival in Melbourne. Not the best stage for a band like them, but I felt so fortunate to even be able to see them. Doubt we ever will again down here.
@@osidiusemphatic3505 they were amazing!! i got to see them announce their new album (coming out this summer) and it was one of the best nights ever 🫶🫶 hopefully they come somewhere near you again soon!!
