That’s my boyfriend and I on the blue sea craft with the golden retriever, I watched the whole truck sink and the dog on that John boat jumped off and was drowning because the owner left them all alone… my boyfriend rescued the dog from drowning. COMPLETE CHIT SHOW!!!!!
Always put the truck in 4x4 on the ramp. All 4 wheels lock together when in park and keep it from sliding down the ramp. Especially if you are by yourself and have to get out of the truck. Otherwise you are only relying on the rear wheels in the moss.
There is only one problem with that line of thinking and that is because the truck is on an angle backwards angle there is very little weight on the front axle so by even if the front wheels are locked they are going to slide (skid) down the boat ramp until the truck becomes a U-Boat. The major malfunction at this boat ramp is the concrete is not grooved to allow for drainage of water and also to provide a better surface to help prevent vehicles from slipping/sliding down them while launching or recovering a boat. Lastly always have a competent driver in the vehicle to either hold their foot on the brake and hit the gas if the vehicle starts slipping
A couple of rules we lived by when we launched our Ranger Tug. 1. No one in the truck but me, windows down, in 4 low with the rear axle locked. My wife would handle all the lines as the boat came off the trailer so I didn’t have to leave the truck but if I saw her in trouble I’d pull the truck up far enough it was out of the danger zone and go help her. Did we do it right every time, nope but we tried to minimize the chances of losing the truck or someone getting hurt. We had a check list so no matter how busy the ramp was we hopefully didn’t forget anything. Be safe out there, it’s a crazy world!
2015 Fort Myers beach. I had 2 brand new jetskis and i was towing them with a 2003 pontiac vibe front wheel drive. After jetsking all day i saw a lot of water and algae on the ramp. I saw trucks struggling to get out i KNEW my pontiac vibe wasnt gonna make the pull of 2 wet jetskis and a trailer. I asked a guy with a truck if i could attach my shore lines to his hitch ball and the front of my vibe and help me back up the ramp. He helped out my vibe and jetskis made it out fine. 2 expensive suvs went blup blup that day minutes apart. A year later i sold the vibe to girl that just got her liscence for $100. The vibe went on to live instead of being claimed by the fishies.
@samshearer6955 😂😂😂😂😂 probably. I took great care of it but i used it for work installing ADT home security alarms. So i put on A lot of milage when i had it. Ran great though never had a single problem.
Again...truck parking brakes are on the REAR AXLE. If you get out, and the rear tires slip, there is NOTHING to stop it. Someone MUST stay in the vehicle with the foot on the brake if the ramp is slick, so the FRONT brakes stay engaged. The only possible exception is if you have a 4WD with the system and hubs engaged and the truck in park.
@@chrisgreen177 you cant have full time 4wd,4wd is only for going straight. if you start turning shit starts breaking. AWD is different and can be used straight or in turns.
@@jmwintennAre you thinking of locked diffs? The Isuzu I had you could keep in 4 X4 as it had 3 diffs . One on the back , one on the front and one in the middle. The truck I had was a 1996 model.
If that truck had 4wd it definitely wasn't engaged. There are alot of truck owners that don't think about what Park actually does and that it only works on the rear tires, unless you engage 4wd.
This truck will end up on a new/used car lot in North Carolina with GM Certified "Minimal Water Damage" via leaky sunroof and window seals for the low low price of $53,995!!!😂😂
I think you are smart for having you're shit locked in when launching/loading Johnny for sure. If I was launching/loading my boat, that big my truck would be in 4 low.
I never launched in 4x4. I only used 4x4 when loading the boat. I am glad this never happened to me. Could it be they type of tires he use on his truck?
I launch with a 4X4 manual transmission with manual hubs (engage in reverse also unlike many auto hubs). I engage at least 1 if not both front hubs, put it in low range, and when I park, I leave it in first low with the engine off if I am solo launching. It has an extremely high rolling resistance that way, in addition to the parking brake. I'm strongly considering a chock as well, just to be sure.
Another reason to turn your front wheels completely all the way is so when it would go into the water it would probably rear end fishtail and maybe catch the dock to stop it.but with the front wheel locked hard to one side ,the truck won't continue to keep going straight deeper in the water..
Based on so many comments, it’s a good thing I didn’t know I needed a 4-wheel drive truck way back when I was trailer boating with a rear-wheel drive truck.
If that was my truck, I would be sitting on the side totaling crying. I am 77 years old, and a retired LEO. We had a 2005 dual and pulled a 36-foot travel trailer, for 3 years.
One time while trailering my Key Largo, wind had blown seagrass onto the ramp. I tried twice to pull it out on the trailer & only slipped backwards. My father got in truck bed & started jumping up & down. I yelled at him to, "SIT DOWN!" I engaged 4-wheel drive & confidently pulled up the ramp.
Older drum brakes on trucks only stop it from rolling forward, not so much backwards, just FYI, attach a wheel chock to a rope, attach the rope to a rear bumper, when you pull forward the rope will drag the chock up with you and clear the trailer till your off the ramp, then just retrieve the chock and your good to go.

It's the Nautilus!!! For ramps like this, it's always good to place the truck in a low 4x4 so the rear and front wheels will lock in the park and in addition to parking brakes. I assume this truck is not a 4x4 which is a big mistake for not having a 4x4 truck due to slippage at ramps.
Someone needs to make one off those little remote controlled little shed movers for boat launches. Im glad the dog got saved. They make life jackets for dogs people. I live in the desert but even I own some life vests/jackets for my 2 dogs.
Sad that people lose their trucks even when they did everything right. Black-Point at some "point" will have to grove the ramps and possibly add anti-skid material.
They did not. You put it in 4 wd low to lock the transfer case. In park with the break on. Walk the ramp to see conditions. He did not do “everything right”.
If that truck was now declared totaled and has a salvage title, when it comes up for auction many people would fall out of their seats trying to purchase it. Yes, it went under water, but very smart mechanics, auto body repairmen, and vehicle detailers are available. I watched videos of these repairer's taking a flood damaged vehicle, take all the carpet, seating, trim work, etc. out wash it, clean it, spray an anti-mold and mildew treatment solution on it and allow to cure. Run diagnostics on the electrical wiring harness, sending units, and circuits, replace damaged electrical components, drain all fluid levels and replace all filters, and now you have a new truck at a fraction of the costs for less than $2000 labor and parts replacement.
They sure have nice ramps in Miami. Around here we have like 2 or 3 ramps and the dock is barely a boat length long, so you can't even get your boat out of the way of the ramp while you park.
Why don't they cut deep groves in the concrete 🤔?? My ramp is like that and I never have to put my truck in 4 wheel drive...just a thought great show Alfred!
