    Umpire is wrong 100% on first call. - not just the call but for making the call. Their guideline is ONLY if you CLEARLY see the ball different from the lines person call. Now, at the far baseline area with whats called 'parrallax error'..meaning from the angle of viewing of the position of the umpire chair - there is distortion. That is why umpires are told to be very very careful if over ruling anything in the baseline area.

    For an umpire to act out of his own way to call 'out' that line umpires weren't even calling must mean that they must be very sure that the ball is indeed 'out'. This is not a simple mistake anymore and surely there must be some form of accountability for blunders of this degree? If that sounds too subjective, maybe we could reform the rules so that umpires are not the final decisionmakers or popularize a video review feature (like the Kecmanovic ball touch drama against Davidovich Fokina) or, simply enough, provide hawkeyes in every venue for ATP250 tournaments and above?

The point wasnt crucial, it wasnt a break, if i remember correctly Kachanov was on advantage (clearly without the mistake he would have won the game, but any mistake cause a disadvantage) . • @frfdrake
    @frfdrake 2 роки тому +23

    At the end, Khachanov loses the game on its own in my opinion.
    Of course, I think everyone agree after the slow-mo replay, that the ball was clearly in. At the other situations, well it was hard to make a clear call by watching the replay, because they are really close, but in the end, I would agree on the chair umpire to let the call stand.
    What I really want to mention is not the action of the chair umpire, how definitely argued not that well, but in the end, Khachanovs attitude was the reason, why he loses the game.
    In the first conversation, he said to the chair umpire, that he should trust the line umpires, because they are sitting in a better position . In the following discussions, he just scream, why the chair umpire aren’t overruling this decisions. To bring it on point, Khachanov has no clear opinion, he just wants the calls in his favor. Understandable for each tennis player, but at the end, there are (if you have no working hawk eye on the field) calls for and against you, probably at least two for and against you. But at the end you always have the chance to win with your strength on court. You play often over 100 points in a match, so you have a lot of chances to win it on your own.
    And the set break discussion was hilarious. It’s clearly mentioned in the Code, that the player can’t leave the court without asking the umpire (because their is always one of the line umpires going with them.) So his action in the set break was just childish and probably this behavior was part of this lose.
    Of course, you can criticize the chair umpire or the line umpires, even if you are spectator like we are, but to say especially in this case, the umpire loses the game of Khachanov, that’s just unfair. I mean, as I mentioned before, I am not sure at the calls after the first one, and I say this even after I watched the slow motion. Think about it, to be in a situation where a ball will come with a lot of speed, you can just see that ball one time and you have to decide. Of course it’s their job, but if you put the weight of decision on a human, faults are possible. On umpires side, but also on players side. :)

    All ATP tour tournaments should have hawk eye. 2021 people, let the technology work for us. The umpire's first call was an absolute joke, ball was 20cm inside the court.

    imagine how well a real sportsman could have deescalated that first big mistake by just saying it was in. Found more often in tabletennis that gift. timo boll for example.
