    Hey, you asked if I'm a fan of lute and I couldn't answer because I was starstruck, sorry (Obviously because there were too many lutes in the room ). The answer is I am a lute fan yes. Your videos on how to read lute tab and play this song on guitar were the catalyst that caused me to finally get into playing classical guitar. Thank you, Brandon!!

    42 years ago I bought a Cox 8-course lute kit and Diana Poulton's book of Dowland's complete works. This was one of the first pieces I practiced. My ill-constructed lute sounded awful and my guitar nails made it worse. THIS is how to play this piece properly. Bravo, sir!

    Beautiful performance 🥰 Whats the temperament called you used there it doesnt look like 1/4 Meantone and it a perfect fit for this old piece

    • @brandonacker
      @brandonacker  Місяць тому +2

      Thank you! It's 1/6 comma meantone. The first fret is slanted very low to get a beautiful C# and F#

    • @maHaTma86
      @maHaTma86 Місяць тому +1

      @@brandonacker Thanks for the response i will try it out. Im still learning about the temperaments, as i tried 1/4 meantone with all frets arranged pieces in Aminor like Dowlands midnight sounded abit off to me. My ears still enjoy it alot as i experiment with temperaments and finetune the frets here and there. The biggest shock is always i if grab my guitar again then i realize how out of tune equal temperament is 😄

    • @brandonacker
      @brandonacker  Місяць тому +2

      Yes those temperaments spoil you for equal haha
      You do have to be careful with choosing your temperament based on the keys you are playing in. 1/4 comma won't work in A minor if you have a high 1st and 3rd fret (which is normally what you do). You have to add tastini or move the frets to work in that key.
      Or you can go to something less harsh like 1/6 or even 1/8 comma :)

    • @maHaTma86
      @maHaTma86 Місяць тому

      @@brandonacker Yes indeed playing my guitar without tastini feels so wrong now haha and my only classicalguitar will have them within the next days. I dont know alot about musictheory, just another selftaught guitarist in year 4 and renaissance lute in 6. month now. 1/4 meantone sounds best for pieces in C D and prob E for my ears and i will try out 1/6 and 1/8 Meantone right now. Thanks for your inspiring beeing and your art :)
