SO, as a former DJ, let me explain the purpose of a fade-out in a dance song, which is very simple. You want the fade out to keep the groove going as you're moving into the next song, which can be either hype or less hype, and by fading, the DJ is cued to that the ending of the song is near and they need to start transitioning to the next song, rather than an abrupt ending and suddenly the dance hall is left completely quiet. Now, some people might not mind this, but in a dance club, it was basically ordered by our managers to absolutely NEVER have dead space between songs. If we did, we actually got in trouble...
So it cues the DJ, but also the dancers that the song is about to end and they're going to be able to change up their groove. It gives them the time to think about what they want to do next as the next song starts, typically an abrupt start that you can hear over the fade out of the last song. Otherwise, you just have clashing of two songs and that isn't always nice (though fade outs/ins can be done manually, but timing is necessary). So basically Left and Right was made to be club music, which is also consistent with Jarod's comparison to Cupid Shuffle, which we were also required to play at least once a night....

Nice thing to point out, I don't really know much about club music, but during the first few times I did go clubbing, I hanged around a Dutch girl who often displayed displeasure if the DJ don't use the fade-out if the prior song was a catchy music and so she explained to me how important a good transition is in club music, and that it's not all just the bass and build-ups

I'm with Jarod on this one, as he said - it all depends on the song for whether a fade out works or not.
To me, it works perfectly in this song. I don't know the right terminology, but left & right is a more relaxed dance number and so it earns itself the right to fade out.
(Now, if a song like "Hit" faded out.. THAT would be preposterous.)

This song is definitely such positive vibes all around! The entire Heng:garae album is basically this, a shot of serotonin and SVT telling us to believe in ourselves and be positive and it's just so warm and comforting.
The music is just like , not too fast , not too slow, a normal pace , the way it stays in the same range .... Woozi reached what he wanted to represent sooo well ( and also the fade out ending which matches the choreography really well, it is meant to end like that like 'life continues the way it is ) ... amazing
And The texture in vernon's part reminds me of Hit 😁

I would love to hear y'all's thoughts on the album!! My personal favourites are Kidult and I Wish because of the lyrics but the performance for Fearless is outstanding!! Definitely one of my favorite albums from them

This is probably the first k-pop song I've listened to that features a fade out in a long while (I can't remember the last time I've listened to a k-pop song with a fade out) so I find this song unique this year because of that. Woozi mentioned in a special bts leader line video that Left & Right was inspired by a sort of 2000's kind of music, but with a modern 2020 twist. I think he and the other producers were able to achieve that well, though because I wasn't exactly a music listener when I was... about eleven(?) in that decade, the first thing that came to mind was "Why is this giving me High School Musical vibes?" XD (when you were a Disney kid back then and HSM's popularity even exploded in your school). A shoutout to Jarod though for noting it's similarity to Cupid Shuffle; a real blast to the past, and now I can finally give a rest to my "What old song does this nice song remind me of?" dilemma.
The only concern I have now is that I hope that Umu ended up knowing that S Coups survived in the end XD

I've listened to Left and Right probably hundreds of times. From the moment I first heard it, Seungkwan's triplet part was my favorite (and not just because Seungkwan is my bias ;) ). I love Seventeen and this song so much!! Can you react to the rest of the album? It's pretty short, but I have some interesting thoughts on some of the songs and would love to hear your thoughts. (I really loved Fearless and Kidult)

I'm not a big fan of fade outs, but in this song I think it serves the purpose. Which is a never ending motto that is not only for parties but for the entire life.
It is shown in the end : the song and the dance begin again after S.Coups gets out of the car. After struggles, the fun always come back (or something like that). Also, it's interesting that S.Coups is the one doing this scene.

This reminds me to subverted expectations in home but that chorus has a second section with more textures. I think home was a better excecution of this idea, idk i wanted something more in the chorus or even a switch in sections like minimalistic verses and a punchy chorus
About fade outs, i cant hate on that because i belive it works really well in some songs but i'll admit i think it doesnt work out for most of the pop music
I don't think the goal is to subvert expectations here though. Home and Thanks are meant to get on an emotional journey and the anti-drops work perfectly for that. Left&Right is just meant to be a happy and chill dance number.

Ooohhh. I've been waiting for this. Thank you for your reaction. When you pointed out about the rapping, it just really dawned on me how it is the hip hop unit that shines in this song. Since it's like mostly rapping singing all the way. And we only have Jeonghan started singing and then we have Wonwoo, S. Coups and Mingyu continuing it.
