One of my most played songs and albums by Sheena and in general! Although this song was her swansong as mainstream Pop star, #19 on the Billboard Hot 100, her final Hot 100 entry to date, she went out with flattering and memorable bang! R&B/Soul Sheena is consistently thrilling and satisifying! I sincerely wish she continued in this direction for the rest of the decade. Smoking hot music video and she was statuesque and ravishing in this music video!
You should try Sugar Walls and Lover In Me. Sugar Walls was written by an absolute nobody called Alexander Nevermind. 🤣🤣🤣 Lover In Me was pretty much the precursor of What Comes Naturally.
Hey, Dereck! When I was choosing a follow-up for you to "Strut," it was between "What Comes Naturally" and "The Lover in Me." Based on your reaction to "Strut," I finally settled on this song because of everything you mentioned. Sheena here is sexy, stunning, naughty and this is right up your wheelhouse, plus she has a little rap breakdown at the bridge which I thought you would appreciate. I've always felt people didn't give this song the credit it deserved. Sheena does indeed have many more hits to discover. I own many of her albums and love so many of her songs. "Sugar Walls" is an X-rated, Prince-penned U. S. top ten; "For Your Eyes Only," "When He Shines," and "Almost Over You" are examples of great ballads. If I had unlimited resources and you had unlimited time, I would suggest all these songs and many more.
I think they did. It sounds too much like En Vogue and all the other identikit 90s soul/dance stuff going on then, but it's still done better than most, and it least has the much needed application of her great voice, something lacking from many of those other records.
Thanks for the discovery, I think that's the first time I really like one of her song, but I always thought she looks great, as a french she reminds me a little of Muriel from Niagara, the video is really cool ! In the same style-era would you react to CATHY DENNIS ?!
This came out when I was 15 and introduced me to Sheena Easton, then I discovered her back catalogue. She is awesome, she is in my top 5 (Olivia Newton-John, Linda Ronstadt, Helen Reddy & Madonna)
Hi Derek. Enjoy your channel and reactions. Sheena is one of my favorite artists from the 80's and 90's. A few suggestions are Almost Over You, I wouldn't beg for Water, It's hard to say it's Over, Devil in a Fastcar, Don't Leave me this Way, Youv'e learned to live without Me and Crazy Love.
I totally agree here! She looks absolutely stunning no doubt, the music video is also well put together but the song's just not it, not saying it's bad but definitely not up there with the rest of her singles. I love Sheena's music but compared to a lot of other artists from that time, her songs have aged badly for some reason, in my opinion. This was definitely the beginning of the end for her, at least commercially. So many new talents like Mariah, Celine Dion etc. popped up on the scene and have left her behind. Also wasn't that album like close the her last? Still Sheena remains to be a legend in her own right ✨
@@SUGAPIE212 Yes I do believe you're completely right God bless you,on all counts,in all circumstances Yes the videos put together extremely well Immensely professional etc Yes she truly does look amazing Soo trim slender slim + beautiful hair So pretty with curves Yet the actual songs lacking Not catchy enough, can't even remember how it goes despite listening to it numerous times No real meaning or depth to it in my humblest of opinions Lovely to see you here + thank you so very much for your wondrously brilliant comments
This IS 90s and that's not a good thing, sadly. It means her cool 80s presence has gone, and this song, while catchy enough, sounds way too much like En Vogue's 'Hold On' and not a lot different from all that mediocre 90s soul/dance explosion replacing the 80s in an utter morass. Nobody Paula Abdul (good for one album, all thanks to top production just about compensating for a lousy twee squeak of a voice and sappy, kindergarten bedtime story lyrics) and Janet Jackson's only ownable album ("Rhythm Nation 1814") are too much in evidence here, not that they have their own sound either, really, and it's just sad to find Sheena going into this market, as did too many back then, especially with outright awful company like boy-named barking Taylor Dayne-and equally lousy-voiced Lisa Stansfield as the rather risible 90s replaced the rich-synth art that began the 80s. Admittedly this song still nice and catchy, while being entirely pedestrian, though Sheena's wonderful singing takes it far above the usual vocal types wrapped around this kind of thing. Point is by the 90s individualism had gone, plus artistic integrity as the big corporations swallowed that up to knock out identikit muzak for the easily pleased. It's very urban, American-sounding so you do What Comes Naturally and love it, but unlike 'Strut', which had that great 80s sound that was all surprise, edge and cool, this is generally watered down soul/R'N'B, and though her singing is lovely, everything about it from the style to the tiresome typical US length of the tune (that's soul singers for you and Americans in general) sounds the worrying note of a career going down the pan. The album tanked at US#90, not that her so-called contemporaries deserved any higher with their even worse products, and this became her last US hit of any note. But it's at least a fun one to end on. Which is more than you can say for the likes of Paula Abdul.
Not her best track but fine. The video don't care you cannot watch it in your driving car. A bit updated and for 90's fans. M.J with his DANGEROUS album is on the same vein but better. So nothing new or special. In the end not on graveyard but at the door....

Yes but this sounds too En Vogue and not overly standout from the 90s soul explosion happening. 'The Lover In Me' at least sounded in the 80s.
Omg what a classic! Early 90s new jack swing.

For Your Eyes Only, Only For You
Is her best by far in my humblest opinion

madonna is rubbish.
Absolutely fantastic song.
Not her best, but probably her best video.
Great reaction- thx

ALL excellent suggestions! Do you own her CDs "My Cherie" and "Fabulous"?
@scottarooni yes Scott I do own My Cherie cd but not Fabulous. It's a shame Sheena hasn't made any albums since then.
@@stevearino7239 Sheena still has live concerts, and she still looks and sounds great!
To Anyone Is my favourite from Sheena Easton on her What Comes Naturally Album! 💿🎵

Derek, (101 From the Lover In Me album) is pretty epic. Don't know if there is a video but its very atmospheric and moody.

Good Lord do NOT sing over her and the music. Especially with that voice
