  • Put an end to those rattley Defender 90/110 side windows once and for all!

    Part number CZL000020
    This was a request from Ken.

    As UA-cam have moved the goals to become monetized, and I have a niche channel, funding is never going to happen, so I have set up a Patreon as I would like to get a higher speed upload, which means I get post more videos, AND in 1080
    Takes me about 2.5 hours to upload a 15 minutes at the moment.
    I will be giving credits to my supporters at the end of my videos from now on. I am very grateful to one and all!

      Hi!
      Yes you could but, not many people open the windows, and the will rattle and compress the felt when driving

    I've just replaced mine thanks to this video.
    It took me 20 mins to do both, and I only swore once under my breath.
    Still a little rattle, but that's a small bit of the external rubber that's the problem, but so much better.
    Thank you.

    Thanks Mike that excellent and much appreciated, part numbers very helpful too, rattling has been driving me mad - a much better solution than mine jammed up with bicycle inner tubbing!

    Brilliant. Saw the video Monday, bought the felt on Tuesday, fitted it on Wednesday in 20 minutes and 10 years of rattling windows over. Just in time for 350 miles to Scotland on Sunday. Giving the part number was really helpful. Thanks a lot.

    Can you tell me which side the sliding glass is supposed to be on these windows? I think some one has put the glass in the wrong way around.

      Very good question David - I am not sure - the last truck cab I did I took it to bits, as I needed to paint it - but that said why not have a go?!

    Thanks mike, i have a 90 pickup and the Windows rattling like mad. Cheers. Suppose no ideas on how to get a better seating arrangement in a puma pickup. I have a td5 pickup and i find it better to sit in.

      Thanks Michael
      The window seal felts can be replaced in the pickup rear window too
      Sadly in Canada, as we cannot import a vehicle that is under 15 years old, so I have not seen a Puma here to comment on, however I have had quite an improvement by fitting seat raisers between the seat and the seat base

    Absolutely Brilliant Mike!!!
    This is one of those jobs I have been putting off.... well, for years. I really didn't want to take the whole window out like they say in the other videos, (and after all it does make a good no-dose remedy). I already had some felt/rubber seals from Clark Rubber and it took me no more than 15 minutes to get the job done. No now rattling at all!
    Thanks heaps and keep up the great work!

      Yeap, some people make a whole song and dance about changing the felt seals - I can have them changed quicker than they can get their tools organised!

      Glad it helped

      They can be very tight if not used for a long time - maybe try a light oil like WD40 to get them moving?

    After 9 months, how are these felts holding up?

  • @joe050770
    @joe050770 2 роки тому +1

    Hi Mike Thanks for posting this. I've heard this rattle in the back of my 90 for a few months now and never guessed it might be the windows! I've looked up the part you mention for the top of the windows (CZL000020) but I've also found that there's felt for the bottom of the windows as well (CZL000030). Would you recommend fitting/replacing both top and bottom or just the top strip of felt? Would the window slide OK with both strips in? From what I can see on my 90 there is perished felt along the bottom of the window. Thanks. Joe

      Did you ever order and fit the felt for the bottom of the window?(CZL000030).
      I'm about to do mine and was wonder if it was worth it.

    • @joe050770
      @joe050770 Рік тому

      @@markbway0131 I did. Fitted both sets of felt top and bottom and it's easy enough done. And definitely stopped the windows rattling. The old ones I took out were almost rotted away.

    Now that's a nice method. Have some spare felt lying around but never fitted it because of all the work removing the window. Now I'll try your method :-)

      I did order the felt some years ago, but I'll have to check the numbers. I remember the dealer asking me for the purpose and changing the numbers of my order. Maybe he already gave me the right ones.

    • @BritannicaRestorations
      @BritannicaRestorations  6 років тому +1

      I think you cannot get the 'proper' felts - the ones I used were from a very early 110 or 90. As I mentioned they are a tad short, but work great!
      (and so easy to fit if you follow the vid)

    • @petermenzies1714
      @petermenzies1714 6 років тому

      They do rolls of plain felt too which may be similar to the original stuff -- seals-window channel -plain felt, no connection just a happy customer.

    • @nickboylen6873
      @nickboylen6873 6 років тому

      I used the same on the top channels, but found it made the windows difficult to close if used in the corners and front channel, so kept the felt there. I just have to get rid of the rattles from the bottom plastic channel - a temporary winter botch was to insert strips of plastic to wedge the glass, but that prevents opening in warm weather. I'll probably use more channel from Woolies.
      Mudstuff.co.uk stock a replacement rubber seal made in the US specifically for the job - it has a cross section with grip ridges to fit the frame. It's meant to be very good, buts it's extremely expensive.
