Informative interview, its great to hear the honesty we all have enjoyed Paul's music for better or worse. As you both know my interest in the Back to the Egg years (starting with Good night Tonight and the underrated Daytime Nighttime Suffering), would've been nice to hear some more details from that ERA. Great job. Cheers!

Such a great conversation with a great journalist. You Never Give Me Your Money is required reading for any serious fan that is willing to go beyond the standard narrative of Beatles books. I really wished that Prisoner of Love would’ve been released because there are not many books about late 1970s Lennon that didn’t have an angle or a bias. Congratulations on your interview guys!

@@t221000 Yes I do and I have the most recent version which he redid after getting his journals back from Yoko. Highly recommended but I would have loved to see Doggett’s take on Lennon’s diaries.

Congrats on a great "get" and one of the show's/channel's tightest interviews. Not sure if Peter can talk at all about his canceled Lennon book. But if you ever get him back, I'd be curious to know if his take on the Lennon/McCartney post-breakup relationship has changed at all since "You Never Give Me Your Money."

Another fantastic interview guys. I’ve read this book 📖 twice now and I really admire how he pulls no punches in destroying the myth of the Beatles. I’m still curious 🧐 why he hates Macca 2 and Mull of Kintyre. I’m really intrigued about that book 📚 on sex

Great interview guys - I really enjoyed this episode. I dont have this book but I'm certainly going to seek it out now as this is right up my street. I first became aware of Peter when he was writing for the reprinted Beatles Monthly magazine in the mid to late 70s, in which a few issues incorporated the early days of Record Collector. I bought every issue and have a full set of these and if I remember correctly, Peter used to write the current news section which was later taken over by Mark Lewisohn before anybody had heard of him. I admire his honesty in discussing Paul's 80s work although dont necessarily agree with everything he says here, but that's the kind of stuff that makes it interesting . I'm also delighted to hear that Tom thinks there are rich people on other planets 😂Thanks to all 3 of you for this.

Peter Doggett is such a great writer and I would put, in no particular order, 'Tune In', 'You Never Give Me Your Money' and 'Shout!' as my personal "Holy Trinity" of Beatle books.
    Really enjoyed this episode!! 🙂

Just got to weigh in on the ‘views’ about whether he should still be touring. I saw Macca at Glasto last year, and it was a life affirming experience. If he’s have sung every song off key, I’d still have treasured the experience (he’s 80 ffs, the man’s never gonna be perfect) but the gig was absolute fire his voice is in great condition and it meant the world to me. Those who say Macca shouldn’t be touring tend to be those who’ve been lucky enough to have seen him dozens of times. Don’t let your snobbery take that experience away for other people, if Macca wants to tour, and people want to buy the tickets, let him do it :)

Great show Paul was the bad guy in the 80’s because he was only one still producing music Ringo and George were basically retired from music
Put Paul was still hustling as always and just as always Paul gets attacked for living music

We did that a bit towards the end, and we allowed Peter to explain his journey as a journalist/author at the beginning of the show. Did we go over every book no? As his time was valuable to us we wanted to spend the bulk of the time discussing the book in question.

His dislike of Speed of Sound and London Town is odd. The tickets for the 1979 Wings tour sold out almost immediately, so I doubt he could have just turned up to see them.

I agree with Peter, Wings at the Speed of Sound is not a good album.
Peter doesn't have to apologize for being critical of some of Paul McCartney's records. He's being honest. Paul McCartney is my favorite musician of all time but I have accused of not being a true fan because I've been critical of some of his albums. It happened more recently, when I was critical of Paul charging over $200 a ticket when he has trouble sing his old songs with the voice he has now. It's ridiculous to be accused of such things.
