Helping our rabbits stay cool during the summer heat

In the sweltering heat of summer, we go to great lengths to ensure our New Zealand rabbits stay cool. One method we use is adding frozen water bottles to their pens during the hottest hours of the day. To ensure the rabbits' safety, we strip off the labels and caps from the bottles. These bottles serve a dual purpose. Not only do the rabbits use them as toys, rolling them around, but they also lie next to or on them to decrease their body temperature. The open end of the bottle also provides a source of water, allowing the rabbits to hydrate themselves.
