This is just such classic John Riley. A dry, professorial explanation of technique followed by an incredibly thoughtful meditation on the nature of artistry, competition, and self improvement. He is an absolute treasure.
What I find particularly helpful with this kind of exercises is to pay great attention to the evenness of articulation and quality of tone when moving around the drums. Just like playing classical timpani pieces. With quality of tone comes relaxed technique.
He don't really want that we understand , like a real modern teacher ! Don't repeat the pattern slowly for sure ! So you are so different John ! Go to slowmotion to note the pattern , it is so human !

Just realised that I love John Riley.

I am inspired, I’m inspired by you John Riley and I’m an almost seventy-eight year old beginner drummer‼️✌️🌻🇦🇺
As a 45-year-old beginner drummer, my hat is off to you. John is amazing.
John is without a doubt a great teacher. Love the way he brings it home!
As of late I've really loved watching and listening to John. Absolutely incredible.
His playing is smooth as melted butter...
This drummer and educator is simply phenomenal!!

“You watch UA-cam and you see this 5 year old kid sounding great, playing in church… He didn’t sound as good when he was 4.” 😂😂😂
I see JR and click. Always.
Can I please know what’s the title of that book thank you
Two things are necessary to learn this material: what to do and how to do it, with how being the most important.
John Riley also analysed the time signature of a track by an obscure British band during this Modern Drummer session - anyone know what the band was?
Brotherly

There's more to this video than what is being shown here. You have to buy the video to see where he begins and where he ends.
Makes me wish I grew up with Lego's.
I never see and heard a drummer so amaizingly boring
You are clueless
