20Hz to 20kHz (Human Audio Spectrum)
Вставка
- Опубліковано 23 лис 2024
- Sinusoidal wave going trough entire human audio spectrum, starting at 20Hz and ending at 20kHz. Note that the frequency increases exponentially, the idea was to increase the frequency by constant fraction of currently played frequency rather than by a constant value (which would result in clearly noticeable fast change at lower frequencies and nearly no change at higher frequencies). Enjoy.
Note: This wave has the same volume level measured by acoustic pressure all the time, however human sound perception differs depending on frequency. For lower frequencies (below 1kHz) you might want to increase your volume, but don't forget to lower it later to avoid damage to your hearing.
If you don't hear anything below 40-50Hz even at full volume your audio hardware is probably incapable of playing lowest frequencies. You might want to try to listen on the headphones in such case. Also if you stop hearing sound somewhere between 10kHz - 20kHz - do not increase your volume for safety reasons. Every human hears a bit differently and have different hearing thresholds. Hearing range also changes with age. Younger people can usually hear higher frequencies.
For HD (High Definition) version of this test, which might yield better audio quality see: • Hearing Test HD

Why is this so funny
Somebody was playing a (I’d say) 15KHz noise during my English lesson, and nobody except for a few people noticed it. Eventually someone asked “Does anyone else hear that?” and a few people nodded. The teacher assumes their ears were ringing and told them to ignore it, but eventually (after about 10 minutes), a student from another class came in and asked “Is there a ringing noise to any of you?” and everyone realised that someone was playing high frequency noises. Turns out, it was some kid in a different classroom causing havoc by secretively playing a frequency he though pt all the students would be able to hear, but none of the teachers would be able to. He got suspended. What an absolute evil mastermind though. Chaotic genius.
TL:DR: Some genius was playing really loud high pitch frequencies only a few students could hear for about 20 minutes, got suspended
That's incredibly cringe from the school staff. Those students deserve medals of honor.
Those kids need to be inducted into some sorta hall of fame.
What if someone played a very low frequency to drive all the old teachers crazy?
I heard that some people have done that, it's so funny to me how it's possible

Fun Fact: each time you see the sin wave look like it's "standing still" that is a harmonic frequency
Harmonic frequency?
It shakes so much it dosent show the movement where its actually moving
@@kalsten2236 Yes - this basically means the frequency at which the wave moves matches a multiple of the frame rate, so it appears to stand still
@@kalsten2236 So a periodic wave is one like a sin or cos wave that has a repeating continuous pattern. The lowest frequency (how many times per second this wave occurs), that the periodic waveform is achieved at is your fundamental frequency. The harmonics of this fundamental frequency are even multiples (1,2,3, etc.) of your fundamental frequency. Ex: if your fundamental frequency is 50Hz (50 cycles of your wave per second) the first harmonic would be at 100Hz, 2nd at 150Hz, 3rd at 200Hz, etc.
Not to be confused with actual harmonic frequencies, which requires at least one end of the wave to be connected to something (a stationary point)
You have to take into account if your speakers/headphones actually reproduce the frequencies of the whole spectrum

Actually no sound after 17250 Hz, because of UA-cam compression algorithms
So now I am super sure: no sound. I Googled it and found that ≤480p video compresses sound in a way that it is cutting frequencies. These are probably your speakers that are producing extra sound

18kHz is what my ears ring at by the end of day. It doesn't start in the morning but after the office, traffic, shopping, the pitch is there.
Do u use any device to stop that issue? Do u use any device that might be increasing it?
20kHz for me
I can’t hear anything past 12k. My friend who has tinnitus can hear those ultra high notes like you. Is it common to have both tinnitus and a wide hearing range?
@@jeromilittle My tinnitus just jumped from 8250hz to 20k(Hoping that's a sign of recovery since anything above is not hearable). It wouldn't surprise me since Tinnitus is by it's definition the brain compensating and being oversensitive to a certain frequency due to structural damage in the ear or damaged audio neuropathways

One of the cleanest harmonic free sweep tones on UA-cam, and is good enough for frequency response under basic test bench conditions.

Anyone claiming to hear all the way to 20khz in the video, isn't lying. But, you are mislead.
What they can hear ARE NOT the frequencies advertised. There is audio all the way to the very end of this video. However at around 14khz, the sound DOES NOT go any higher. It stays on that frequency.
What you hear are aliasing/foldback frequencies from that point. The sound from 14khz starts going back down whilst still playing 14khz. There are about three different tones introduced by the algorithm at that point. This is because the data compression algorithm from either UA-cam or the uploader's video editor DOES NOT allow frequencies above that threshold.
You have just been told by an audio scientist.
Damn Deal Done cool job. So are you working in a university? Perhaps in Physics department? Im really interested in sound/acoustics and was wondering where can I get a job that involves its use
Quinton Shefield Don't work in it. Qualified though. BSc and MSc and I will work on a PhD in a few years after saving up. I don't think the physics department will be concerned with audio though, although there are crossover stuff like fourier transforms. Mostly, I possess useless information. I work in an IT department as well as build audio software tools for fun and run a freelance mobile recording set-up. Think you need tolerance to work in a University which rules me out. I do keep applying for University jobs though. So far, no takers. I also try for more audio engineering roles and sound design stuff. TV/Film production companies are good for these.
So true. One does need tolerance to work in a university. Well thanks for the reply and wish you all the best in your future careers.
Hooking the output to my oscilloscope says otherwise. The signal continues predictably well beyond 14k. It does however cut out at around 17500 and flat line which could be due to UA-cam or my output not supporting it.
unforsaken2k1 "Predictably well"? try using your ears. You can clearly hear secondary signals. These are Alias signals. But yes, the sound cuts around 17.5 18. However, predictably well is not true. Because the aliasing actually starts around 8000hz. There is nothing predictable about this. It's simply not accurate.
By riding the volume on my interface I can hear to the point it cuts out. 17.5/18. If these were accurate I would not be able to hear them. By this point there are about 3 maybe 4 alias signals all mixed together, neither of which is anything above at the most 16khz. 14khz was my original estimation.
thanks for making me able to hear the high frequency in my ears at around 17500
