Thanks for expressing your point of view with Goodwill pricing, and with your own business model, so clearly and transparently. I like your logic. I m glad Irf is in for occasional treasure hunting, and that both of you take the time to research and think about the sell through rate. You are good teachers. I have a good eye and good instincts, but it has been nuts and bolts learning to calm down and figure out the margins, to stay away from low-profit things that will eat up packing time and materials, to check again, and AGAIN for damage....thing still get bought that I find secret damage on later, at home when cleaning-prepping and I just have to shrug it off and discard; and keep going.
Thank you. 💕 Give yourself some grace, I make mistakes too, a lot. But we learn from them all. Shrugging it off can be hard, because of the investment we’ve made, but you’re right, we gotta keep going. 😘💕
Hey beautiful friend. Absolutely love all your videos.😊😊 I love the stainless steel coffee pot and mugs. Maybe try a rubbing compound, google it first to make sure you get the right type. 😊
I love that you talk honestly about Goodwill’s ridiculous pricing. So many resellers sing their praises & it is so annoying to me, in fact, i’ve quit watching those resellers. Some of them will even pay those ridiculous prices because they know they have fans that will pay up just to buy something from them. I don’t like that, it just encourages them to try to get as much as they can for something.
Hi, Linda! Thank you. 💕 It’s complicated. I like to assume the best of people, and I hope that management of Goodwills will figure some things out. I make money through them (both reselling and content creation.) I want to be critical, but I also want to have a healthy/symbiotic relationship with them. As far as other resellers paying up for things that they know their fan base will buy, it seems there are very few examples of that out there. I’m only saying that, because I don’t think that they are adding to the issue of poor pricing. They have grown a celebrity status that now benefits them and I have to respect that a bit. It came with a lot of work. I appreciate your perspective and you can choose to watch/not watch, support/not support anyone you choose. 😊
I was just at the Salvation Army on Brittain today. Found a canister just like one I already have. It's a Walmart brand made of acrylic. They wanted $5.00 for it. I don't resell, so when I thrift, it's for me. I wasn't going to pay $5 for it. A lot of their stuff was marked so high. They didn't even discount their Christmas decor. 😮 at least Goodwill on Waterloo did a few days Before Christmas. Crunk, man. I don't have that kind of cheddar!!
Hi Zelda! I’ve seen some higher prices at that Salvation Army too but at least they have the 3 colors (2 at 50% off and 1 at $.99). Maybe the next time you go it will be $2.50 or $.99? 🤗 😂 We all need more cheddar for these thrift stores! 🤭😆
Hi Amy, It was great connecting with you last night. I was humbled by your kind words and your inclusion of me in your podcast. Mr. G did a great job. He is charming, kind, and ultra smart. but you knew that. Happy New Year. Barbara
I would have considered that pair of dogs… probably a S&p set … depending on the price. Also would have picked up the Salem Halloween mug for my booth. Didn’t see much else I would have purchased. Happy New Year Amy & Irf! 🤗💓🥳💓
They were cute. I’m not sure if they had a price tag. 🤔 The mug was good! If I didn’t have so many, I may have grabbed it. When I sort through my mugs, I will donate them to you for the booth! I have some good ones! 😘
Amy, sorry I didn’t stay at your Christmas soirée. I have been as sick as a dog since Christmas Eve. So lunch was cancelled as Sas is still having chemo. Praying for a better 2025. Love to you and Irf xx
Oh that’s ok, Charlotte! I’m so sorry to hear that you’ve been ill! 🙁 I hope you’re feeling better! ❤️🩹 I truly hope that 2025 is better for Sas and your whole family. Much love to you too, from us! 😘
Hi Amy and Irf good to see you. Tell it like it is Irf. Lol I don't get the prices either. Even though you didn't get much always enjoy hanging out with you two. See you later take care

🗣📣 Hear it Goodwill! Ain't nobody coming to Goodwill to pay $8 a plate. Prices are getting silly there. How many people do they think are looking for a spongeware basin and pitcher for $15? In the greater Akron area? And how many of those people are going to walk in on the right day? Use some common sense, move the merch. Space is money. 👏
@@YOSOBOHOwe should research how to flood their office high up w complaints. I'm sure the poor cashiers have to hear it all the time and don't have much power, although I am sure they tell the managers!
Looks like the Goodwill pricers from Grand Rapids have relatives working in Ohio as pricers! Our GWs are carrying a lot of new items that didn’t sell in retail stores. One last negative comment is GW is a non profit but check out the CEO’s salary. When I was a social worker my clients at GW rarely made over $25 a paycheck. And they worked hard.
There are definitely issues with pay structures, but that goes for all big businesses. Even as a non-profit, the goal is making money. Non-profits have to hire CEOs and if they want high-level CEOs they have to compete with the salary that CEOs are paid. That’s unfortunate. :( The subminimum wage system for individuals with reduced abilities is a federal law that needs reformed. But that’s a complicated conversation. Honestly, I am having a complicated relationship with Goodwill because I have been able to make a living by reselling items that I purchase from it, and I get views from content that I make about it.
I went to the closest Goodwill retail shop this past Thursday, I was in the neighborhood. I hadn’t been there in probably 3 months. It was the same as it was the last time. Mostly junk on the shelves, over priced and way too many people shopping. I miss the way their shops used to be, lots of merchandise, good pricing and while there were a lot of customers, most weren’t looking for the same thing I was.
Something definitely needs fixed. I feel like the management of the stores is so fractured. Now they have to direct things to the auction, and they are ill-equipped to do all the work needed to sort, research and identify things of higher value. And all of that work is being done by minimum-pay employees, not experts. I’m not sure what the answer is. I’ve been thinking about writing some letters, but I need to be careful. I don’t want to be restricted from my local stores. I make part of my living through reselling things I purchase from there, and content I make about Goodwill.
@@RieShepard-z9t I’ve seen something similar in one of our Goodwills. It was a pile of Dollar Tree stickers that they had priced $2-$3. I asked to speak to management and they took them all back and repriced them. I’m not quiet about things like that.
It's really disappointing how they've changed their pricing. It's different all over the US though. Here in Calif, hard goods are $4.49 & $9.49. You can buy a stoneware plate for under $3/pc NEW @Walmart! Why would I pay $4.49 at GW?? The other thing is they over tape everything. And it ruins the finish on wood, paper, purses, toys etc.
@YOSOBOHO Exactly. I haven't thrifted in weeks. My last trip I bought a lot of brooches. My mom was looking for christmas jewelry. Unfortunately, I ended up in the hospital for 2 weeks
@YOSOBOHO I am home, but now I have a horrible head and chess cold! I have a doctor's appt tomorrow. I was in the hospital 2 weeks. They told me my stomach stopped working. So there's that. I don't know if there's anything they can do? And I guess it was all brought on by the hiatal hernia I have. I've lost 25 lbs since mid Sept. Eating or drinking makes me miserable. And my stomach is bloated out like i'm 6 months pregnant. I hope they can fix it!
Saw that in my newsfeed, too. No color tags, all discounts unless you join their VIP-type program. Goodwill is and has been greedwill for decades. They're making bank on ebay. I

I live near Akron, OH. I’ve found some amazing things in our local Goodwills even with rising prices, but, even better I have other great options! You’ll have to check out my videos that have “Hartville Thrift” in them. Super cheap and sometimes awesome! 🤗
I had a rather interesting experience yesterday, but it would be too much to post here. Maybe I'll send you an email if you are interested. However, what I did learn during that encounter is that our GW apparently now make it a regular thing to split up cups and saucers and price a stack of saucer (rather high, too) and each cup separately. This makes no sense to me whatsoever. The lady I talked to didn't comment on the sense of GW, she just said this is the way they do it now. Grrrr....
I remember you telling me that you saw that practice and were going to question it. That is so wrong. If they have a buyer who is willing to buy cups and saucers (which are not currently popular) they should make sure they are accessible! They should price them right and low! I’ve been thinking about writing some letters and maybe questioning their practices on social media.
@YOSOBOHO I have been thinking of sending an email through their website. It is sad, because - in my opinion - that practice sends the items directly to the bins and we know what happens there.
