back in the 80s, all my schoolmates listened to metal bands at that time. I didn't really give a damn. And although I felt their looks and their judgment towards me for listening to Duran Duran and on top of that, having my folder full of photos of the band. I appreciate having the courage to enjoy it at a time when being just a little bit different was reason enough to be bullied.
I think Nick is an amazing non technical keyboard player.Underrated... Very inventive.. All taste..all style and great parts and sounds. For a guy who isn't a "Player" per se..He's written hits/ recorded some incredible music. Tiger Tiger etc
They were one of the premier bands of the 2nd British Invasion. I think some people don't know, or have forgotten, just how enormously popular these guys were in the 80s. I was 29 when I saw LiveAid on MTV, with a couple of friends, some beer, and a hand full of joints. I miss my MTV, and my damn youth for that matter. 😁
I just watched a documentary and they could barely stand each other during this performance, so the fact that they did that head touch was pretty key. I love that they eventually rallied and never completely broke up still perform today. I finally got to see them live in 2019…my life long dream as a die hard Duranie since the early 80’s.
Wow, this was my generation.....Life was so care free. The music was energetic, imaginative and magical. My have times completely changed for this generation today.
Anyone notice that none of them are wearing hearing protection? For anyone who knows the bands history, this concert was put together at the last minute, that is, not playing together for a year, flying in and having little time to practice. The feedback ..high squeal noises.... happened in many stadiums with performers. With that large of a crowd, it would knock anyone off key. I think considering the circumstances, this was a great concert. They may have felt more at home at wembley stadium, but they were a young band, touring constantly, 3 albums, and the stress shows. John had a drug problem, Andy partied, and Roger quit shortly after this concert. It was an honor just to play. Here we are, 33 years later, .....who is still making new music, alive, from live aid? I watched live, and I didn’t care. I was home, but those who 💩 on Duran Duran because of this, or define them because of this? You don’t know Duran Duran.
Agreed indeed. Simon and Nick never left the band, they kept at it, and Roger and Nigel/John came back 2005 Astronaut CD, and their last stuff is very good "Pressure Off''..decent video, and Simon's what now, 60? he still pulls girlies. Duran Duran made my arm..only a select kind of band makes my tattoo'd arm. THEND.
@@anakinwildstar8759 Yeah, Simon turned 60 this past October and has been happily married to Yasmin for more than 30 years and they have three daughters.
Absolutely agree with you. Duran Duran is my favorite 80s band, see them 10 years ago in Lima, Peru and it was an extraordinary show with the complete band (except for Andy). Two more things, I love the bass line on this song and Roger (a great drummer btw) is married with a peruvian lady since 2007.
i honestly dont see why anyone could hate on this, it is honestly just as good as any of thier other concerts i have seen, and they all have been pretty spectacular
It was the one song performed here where simon's voice breaks. View to a Kill. Not this one. I love The Reflex so much. Just a ridiculously joyous romp of a song
I remember watching this and thinking how great it was that you could finally hear Andy Taylor’s guitar in the mix. Of course, this was the last appearance of the original lineup (for a long long time)
Although I continue to listen to and admire their albums and follow their entire career to this day, a large part of me feels that this was "the last Duran Duran concert".
@@bonkeydollocks1879 Is "was" a difficult word for you? Time has vindicated his musicianship, but at the time nobody was interested in him other than girls drooling over his looks.

Duran Duran could have been the biggest band in the world. And still be today. Changed their formula, lost members, released poor songs, and that's how history went... But from 1981 to 1985, boy, they were THE kings.
I don't know why some of these comments are so negative. This was a charity event concert and this was not terrible at all. I enjoyed this performance. Some people just love to hate.
It's all about expectations. Duran Duran was the #1 rock band in the world at the time - "View to a Kill" was #1 in just about every country. There was a LOT of pressure on them to be perfect, but let's be real: they hadn't played together in 18 months, they were all sick of each other, Roger didn't even want to do it anymore, and John and Andy were very likely high as kites during this performance. Add to that there was no sound check and the general mayhem of the day, and yeah, you get something that isn't as tight as it should have been. But like you, I thought the performance was fine for what it was. Many acts were worse. If you don't believe me, go watch Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young's performance. Every single one of them was off-key and David Crosby was so drugged out he didn't even move. It was awful.
Don't get me wrong. I like Duran Duran but this performance compared to what they did at Maple Leaf Gardens the year before? The Maple Leaf Gardens show was vastly superior. This performance it seemed like they weren't even trying.

I was there and I couldn’t wait for Duran Duran to come onstage. I remember it being so hot that day but I loved every minute of it
Lucky
back in the 80s, all my schoolmates listened to metal bands at that time. I didn't really give a damn. And although I felt their looks and their judgment towards me for listening to Duran Duran and on top of that, having my folder full of photos of the band. I appreciate having the courage to enjoy it at a time when being just a little bit different was reason enough to be bullied.
Top notch band : playing free with other groups for the common good...Simon Le Bon great front man!
I love this song for the diversity of the music. It suits so well on Simon's voice.
I know, me too! My fav song of DD!
I think Nick is an amazing non technical keyboard player.Underrated... Very inventive.. All taste..all style and great parts and sounds. For a guy who isn't a "Player" per se..He's written hits/ recorded some incredible music. Tiger Tiger etc
Great musicians!! No auto tune B.S. of today.
Simplemente perfecto y precioso.
'The reflex' is a description of elements of the AUTOMATIC systems of the Divine machine. Duran Duran also served GOD. Everything does.
John Taylor is great!
Yep...I saw him and Andy with the Power Station. Great.
Tiempos gloriosos!
I L💓VE SIMON LE BON !😘🎵
I L💓VE DURAN DURAN! 😘🎵
Que regresen los 80's!!!!! 👏👏👏
Si:(
Simon and John still do that little forehead touch when they perform today. The love between them is so wonderful to see.
Sometimes I forget how funky these mofos were. This is such a great performance. The synths were turned ON too!

They have very particular harmonies. Without practice they'd be quite hard to return to against the instruments' stacked up notes.
THEND.
As a bass player of 30 years I gotta say these guys are top notch musicians bottom line.
AWESOME SHOW! I was there and 18 years old, the day was just memorable.
It’s because of Simon’s singing
It was the one song performed here where simon's voice breaks. View to a Kill. Not this one. I love The Reflex so much. Just a ridiculously joyous romp of a song
I remember watching this and thinking how great it was that you could finally hear Andy Taylor’s guitar in the mix. Of course, this was the last appearance of the original lineup (for a long long time)
Although I continue to listen to and admire their albums and follow their entire career to this day, a large part of me feels that this was "the last Duran Duran concert".
I hope we can gather in a crowd like this again.
Seeing them in their heyday is one of my fondest concert memories.. amazing energy and music!
Duran Duran had a really unique pop sound. I put them with Depeche Mode, The Cure and The Smiths as far as writing numerous great songs.
If you grew up in the early 80s and were a product of the 80s. DD was in your home on mtv every day. They were gods of the 80s
37 years late, Duran Duran still rock
After 37 yrs I saw tis again..really insane luv u DD simon, john, nick andy roger..goshh
One of the greatest bands of the 80s....I love the 80s!
The image at the time took away from the fact that they were such a tight spot on band. John Taylor was really an underrated bassist.
agreed. he's started to get some credit finally. the last two Duran albums have had some good basslines that the younger audience is appreciating
I always thought he was an amazing bassist that never got the credit he deserved. His playing was always very tight and funky!
Underrated? By whom?
@@bonkeydollocks1879 Is "was" a difficult word for you? Time has vindicated his musicianship, but at the time nobody was interested in him other than girls drooling over his looks.
@@grilledspaghetti well that shut you up big mouth, those of us that know have always rated him even from the days of shock treatment he was fantastic.
The way you worded you attempt at a statement implies he has only recently got good, he has always been good.
Lesson over.
Duran Duran could have been the biggest band in the world. And still be today. Changed their formula, lost members, released poor songs, and that's how history went... But from 1981 to 1985, boy, they were THE kings.
Big Simon, good voice, big performance all.. Duran❤️❤️👍👍
That was such an unforgettable day!! I got up at 5 a.m. to wait to see these guys!!! Watched it straight through the night.❤️
Me, too!
Another milestone in pop culture history. Live Aid! As Grace Slick put it..."Your generation's (my generation) Woodstock "
They’re called losers
Don't get me wrong. I like Duran Duran but this performance compared to what they did at Maple Leaf Gardens the year before? The Maple Leaf Gardens show was vastly superior. This performance it seemed like they weren't even trying.
ElusvOptmst1 So right! Peace and love brother!!✌️🕊️
True. Even so much going bad they still rockin. What a band. To bad Andy left the band, but he began overplaying with the band which wasnt good at all
Those were the days when Australia seemed to be the empire of global pop music. Great talent , greetings from Argentina
Excellent sounds bass so great to hear favorite band ever so good
These guys are unique. People can call them “synth” or “boyband” or whatever, but yet at the core they are just a great legit band.
The shit Nick does on this Song is just amazing! 👍 Song is still fresh 40 years on! 👍
Andy Taylor, what a legend! My first job in Ibiza was cleaning his house , lovely guy
Can't wait to see them at the Rock Hall ceremony ! #1 in the fan voting !
Glad to have been there as a kid seeing this live on tv along with the world.
I.know everybody loves their generation but .....being in my late teens at this time, and loving music it was a spectacular time.
I was five to ten years younger than you at the time, but I agree. This was the time when I learned what music was.
I remember staying up just to catch this performance.... I was so enthused by Simon.
They were massive back then .. One of the major acts that night
