I like how this game has that "adventure" rpg feel, in a racing game. you are travelling through different cities, forests, mountains, even worlds, with their own unique landscapes.

First came across Outrun around 1987 when I was 15 and used to go swimming on a Saturday morning at the local sports center. They had a few Arcades there including Outrun. Found it almost impossible to get even half way through the game back then. But still, very fond memories. So glad I was growing up as this marvelous mode of entertainment was developing. It's given me so much fun and escape since I was a kid.
i love how you can actually see the road ahead...great camera view. racers like burnout and most nowdays put the camera too low, so your own car block your view lol. love playing it in teknoparrot😎
I don't get your point since SEGA still in business until now (and with a fine income btw). They only have focused their efforts in software and sell it to other companies instead of keep it kinda exclusive to their own hardware. SEGA's last big release was last year with Shenmue III if i'm not wrong (even if indirectly).

There needs to be more footage of this game captured from the real hardware and played by moderately skilled people on this website, and you scratched that itch for me perfectly. Traffic cars running at 300kmph. Absolutely no damage when you car hits something. Dragons in the air like regular birds. Birds are flying at tornado speeds. Absolutely static hair despite the fact you're running at freak speeds. It's morning at the first lap, but at the third it's night time. Moai statues from Easter Island at the borders of a street on the beach. Wow, so realistic! (...that's what arcade games were meant for: reality is boring!)
Love this game. The best version to me is the OG xbox one. Then the xbox360/ps3/pc versions. The OGxbox version got more music and tracks. And with component cable 1080i it looks amazing.
i wish the xbox and 360 and pc and psp versions ran this good as i own all three and they play ok its just the controls on all of them youll be drifting round a corner and the the controls just seem to wig out at certain times even if your not going that fast and your car just heads to the nearest wall its like the controls stop working and theres nothing i can do about it as this was and still is my fav outrun racing game
Agree on this. If you can get a modded PSP and overclock it to 333mhz it works wonders for the twitchy controls, the only part that stutters is the transition road while it kicks in to the next stage, other than that it makes it practically smooth. I think Sumo Digital made the console conversions overly sensitive, even when turned down to low in the options the controls are way too twitchy.

Shame this will never happen, unless Sega renews the Ferrari licence, this is why the game got delisted from all platforms. The original OutRun was easy to swap out with just one 80's pixelated car to change which got around this issue so it could be released again but 2 had more than 12 cars brought to life in glorious 3D. I feel if they tried the same with 2 it would take alot of the appeal of the game away even as good as the driving mechanics are.
This game could have been adapted on Dreamcast if Sega didn't throw the towel so early :( it would have been a much better adaptation than the PS2 version that was quite awful.
The Dreamcast was great, but had some hardware issues. Mostly related to the disc drive. If they had still been around when those started failing en masse, it probably would have sunk their console hardware division anyway. As it is a Dreamcast with a fully functional disc drive is rare now. Though it seems they had plans for an optional upgrade to a DvD reader at some point. So I guess they might have had potential solutions available.
The last time I remember playing this game at arcade, I was like at the Semi Last stage when I went to wide in a corner... Also didn’t use coins for lives
While I love outrun and old school arcade Sega, you can definitely see the decline in graphics fidelity in arcades vs home consoles. Game was released in 2003. A year after project Gotham racing 2. A game on a far higher fidelity level. And only a year out from Gran Turismo 4. Personally I would love to see another push for next generation over to top arcade hardware. But those days seem long past :/
Some cars are just sexy. Doesn't make him gay. You see women all day, but how often do you see the ass of a cherry red Ferrari up-close? I'd tap that muffler.
It is still something wrong with the sun intensity. I know, you can change the value of "Sunheight" but in many level parts it is still too strong compared to the original cabinet. You should see every sunny road clearly. Don't know what the problem is with the emulation..

This Game and Ridge Racer 6 on Xbox 360 are my favourite Racing Arcade Games of all time.

The game was on XBLA, but licensing ran out and got removed. Maybe it was also on the PSN, but also got removed?
