The creation of this cover was more of a relay between Calli and Gura, they passed their recording between each other per line, so they just bounced off of each other really naturally. (Calli lived in Japan (idk if she still there or moved back to NA) And Gura lives in NA)
Calli still lives in Japan. And you can see that her Japanese has improved 10000%. before she had a super american accent when she spoke japanese nowadays the accent is very light and even almost zero.
@@ThiagoABarbosa ive always thought that her Accent is just her playing it up since the start. Shes been in japan for years before joining Hololive, i doubt she would still have that accent naturally.
She grew up in Texas, then moved to Japan 6-ish years ago (some of her OG fans will know exactly when) then a couple years ago bought a second house back in Texas to spend more time with family. She regularly flies back and forth sometimes only staying in one place for a few days before flying back. Sound insane? Yeah, Calli's hardcore like that.
now that you've reacted to gura and calli's King cover, the next obvious one you should react to is gura and calli's original song they did together: Q (yes, it's just the letter) my favorite part of this song is in the later section when calli is the primary singer but gura is basically whispering ASMR in the background
Gura and Calli together are known as the ‘Bone Bros,’ stemming from the fact that Calli is a shinigami in training (basically a death god), and Gura is…. Well she has a heart of gold, and head of bone. They’re two goofballs that just bounce off each other perfectly. As for their voices, yeah Calli’s voice is on the huskier, thicker kind of sound, and it’s great. Meanwhile, Gooba’s voice is naturally incredibly high-pitched, but her tone is so clear and pure it comes across as sweet and pleasant instead of grating and painful. It’s always fun to listen to them collab on a song.
Considering the previous Non-fiction reaction there are a couple of things I would like to recommend: Ninomae Ina'nis - Violet Amelia Watson - Chiku Taku Takanashi Kiari - Sparks
Thanks you for the reaction. Fun fact: these two first language is English and they didn't record this in the same studio at all. If you liking Calliope's rap, i would like to recommend her original song "Dead beat" next. If you want to see other new member, i would recommend Risu - "Alice&U".
Another fun fact that many parts of the song was GURA playing with the microphone and Calli put it on the song because she thought it was cool. (the part where the figure whispers in the ear)
Fun fact: Why I (and many other fans) find this to be a superior cover of King - Calli added english lyric parts for her to rap, while the only thing from original was - japanese part. So if you go listen to other King covers after this one, the song feels empty and barren. Not to mention the unparallel mixture of their voices and personalities bouncing so well from each other! You won't find that kind of energy in any other cover, it's just too great! ❤ As an obvious next reaction, if you still haven't recorded it, would be a follow up ORIGINAL song by them, called - [Q]. They intended to call it "Queen", but then realised that it'd be too hard to find their song in search, cuz the name is too often used, so they came up with just one letter to better differentiate from others. And I tell you [Q] is a friggin BANGER! It's still one of my all time favorite. BoneBros (Calli - Grim Reaper x Gura - Head of Bone, Heart of Gold) are FTW! ❤
@@jacobmartin7434You're right about Reine's version being good, but... Suisei, man. She starts it off an octave lower to show off her range... And that finale? Flawless. As unforgettable as Kanata's Unravel cover during her 3DLive 3rd Anniversary concert. Even in mashups of a hundred or so VTubers going through the VTuber Rite of Passage of singing King, Calli+Gura and Suisei stand out and are still easy to hear through the mix.
This is a song "cover," but Calli and Gura did something to this song that nobody else did with their "King" covers--they made it THEIR OWN SONG, especially with the rapping lead-ins and add-libs throughout. From what I understand, they put in a LOT of time recording all of what they did in this song, pushing the added content more and more until they got what you hear in this version of "King." Apparently, they had a LOT of fun doing this.
One suggestion for a new member to react to would be Hakos Baelz(Also known as Bae). She does some good rap too, Psycho is a really good one in my book
If you like animated music videos then try watching Houshou Marine's MV such as Set Sail, Ahoy, Im your Treasure Box, Unison, or her recent ones(which I don't know how to type because it's in Japanese). Her MVs are pretty much like an anime opening. She's also from Hololive.
This cover of King is really special to me because King is very often covered by a lot of VTubers and Japanese online singers. I listened to quite a few myself and Calli/Gura is the first duet I ever heard. Calli even added the English rap herself. All the little ad-lib was their own idea and the last part where they just sang without lyric is not from the original either. It's something that people after hearing many of the same cover would find refreshing.
I'm loving your discovery of all these girls and maybe soon guys if you're enjoying yourself I say full speed ahead there's alot of ground to cover and quite literally more coming out everyday so there's no lack of content in the hole lol Also since you have these 2 the Bone Bros also have an original song together called [Q]
IMO, this was the most unique cover of this song EVER. This was sung by a duo and was remixed, and produced, with a hook that did not exist on the original song. Well, the original was a song that was not supposed to be sung by a human voice, and yet we have all these various people defying the human body's physical limits and still somehow produce the sounds to make covers for this song. 😂😂😂 PS The original song was composed as a vocaloid song. There is no actual person actually singing the song. The "voice" for these songs was stitched together by the artist thereby sometimes producing songs that are so difficult to sing via natural means. (Oh, yes, Vocaloid songs are yet another rabbit hole😂)
I love seeing people get into the rabbit hole and would love to help get you in, if you ever decide to or get time highly recommend react to a fan animation called holomyth vs ina it’s absolutely amazing
if you watch Nenes song nenenenene, she has a part in her song where she goes through all the vowels. JP is pretty easy to learn when you get that each vowel, A-E-I-O-U, have only 1 way to pronounce.
I been breaking stuff down for you but for this one my only comment is: This is wayyyyyy better if you had already heard the original King or any other King covers first. That experience of knowing the others and then hearing this one makes this one special.
Ok personally I'd recommend a less popular Hololive member, Pavolia Reine. Very talented singer from the Indonesian branch of Hololive. "Gate Open: START!" Which she does in fact sing in Indonesian

Something that so many people seem to miss is Gura's little ASMR during the second verse. xD

Psycho is one of the best hololive song

General rule of thumb if it's a cover song from a Hololive talent there usually aren't any embedded English lyrics.
Gotcha!
